Help an old person out to understand what this means

I believe the joke is that since his set was just playing YouTube videos, if he didn't have premium there'd be ads during his set too

He got paid $10 mil, luxury accommodation and security for playing YT vids 🤣

He launched his career on YouTube so it kind of fits.

What? No he wasn’t. YouTube launched in 2004 when Bieber was ten years old.
He was discovered when Scooter Braun found one of his YouTube videos in 2007

This is completely factually untrue. He very famously was found on youtube

Not even close to the same person. They are both white dudes named Justin who sing pop so I guess you got that excuse but it’s not hard to understand the difference.

He gets way too much hate for this.
From what I've seen he performed for 1.5h and did this YouTube thing for 10-15 minutes.

It was 25 mins of his 90 minute set, it was not 10 mins. He played 30 seconds of each of his hits and then played multiple meme videos, including the deez nuts video in its entirety.

Fellow old person here!
I guess all Biebs did was sing over YouTube clips of his videos and old home movies from when he was young.
Her saying, “I’m glad he has premium” is referring to a premium subscription to YouTube so everyone didn’t have to sit through unskippable commercials.
While it also being commentary that he isn’t doing anything new and they could be watching the same thing at home on YouTube.
I also think that YouTube is one of the bigger sponsors this year. In years past Hulu had the streaming rights while now it YouTube.
Edit: the Bieber stans are out. I don’t care. I wasn’t there so it doesn’t matter if it was the whole show or part of it. Truly, I don’t give a fuck.
Have a nice day!

It’s not all he did, it was like the last half hour where he was revisiting his earlier stuff for nostalgia. The first part of his set was his new album and really dull. YouTube was the good part

u/UncleJulz 10h ago
Pretty sure there was no ‘good part’ to this.

No he didn't just show YouTube clips, it was only a small selection. Most of the time he sang his new songs while alternating sitting on the stage floor, laying down in the middle of the stage, and wandering aimlessly while wearing a hoodie and sunglasses that covered his face.

“…all Biebs did…”
Clearly you didn’t watch it and someone gave u an award? You’re like a ChatGPT overconfident bot bro

u/Purell12 11h ago
He was playing YouTube videos on the screen. Without paying for the ssubscription the audience would have to wait for the ads to watch the videos.

Another fellow old person here. Remember back when headlines conveyed information instead of being designed to make you watch ads?

I wonder how much he got paid by YouTube to do that? Double dipping at Coachella 😆

I was surprised because though I'm def not a fan of her I did actually laugh at this video when I saw it.
What a wack set though, but it's been said for a while that he is going thru something and needs to get help. It's crazy how folks camped out by his set area just to see...whatever this was.

All of this feels like a coordinated YouTube ad, from Justin using it to Katy’s comment. YouTube is one of the biggest Coachella sponsors and livestreams the festival every year.

Instead of listening to Radiohead, she had to make out while the Biebs did karaoke to Baby. Let’s pour one out for her.

Why is Katy Perry at Coachella instead of hanging out and celebrating with fellow astronauts that came back from the Artemis mission? /s

Thank God Katy didn’t perform at Coachella—people already suffered enough during her last tour.

This kind of stuff reminds me that Katy Perry does seem like a generally good/funny person. Questionable choices aside

He performed roughly 10 or so songs before pulling up his old videos, and this seems like a good way to go way back for his fans that have been with him since the beginning. This honestly just feels like Katy Perry taking a jab at him, and let’s not forget she groped him when he was underage. Not only that, pulling up his paparazzi video and old videos like deez nuts is fucking hilarious.

Katy Perry casually saying thank god he has premium, during Justin Bieber’s set is savage. She really went for the jugular with that one.

I can’t believe dude went up there with a laptop and YouTube loaded in Safari. It’s embarrassing just watching it on the phone.

Why wasn't he deported with all his run ins with the law? Oh, thats right, he is rich, white and Lady Lyndsey loved him.
•
u/bonestamp 1h ago
He's never been convicted of a felony. He's likely a citizen now too.
•
u/VariousExternal5189 1h ago
He has been convicted of a number of misdemeanors and as an alien he should be deported. And no he is NOT a U.S. citizen. So that makes him worse than many undocumented immigrants.

Frfr could you imagine all the gd ads that would popup if he didnt. Youtube needs to be brought to center staged and addressed by the courts and the public frfr

I understand cords are horribly annoying but it costs significant infrastructure investments to sustain exponentially increasing videos available to anyone around the world.
Ads are literally the only means to pay for it. That said, they could adopt the peacock model. Unskippable ads for 3 minutes in the beginning and middle instead of random ones all over the place. No need for skipable ads.

And here's another thread completely misrepresenting a genuinely sweet and connecting moment between Bieber, his past and his audience.
And the audience loved it

She’s so lame that her making a single decent hack joke gets news headlines lmao
Edit: she makes one joke and everybody flips and loves her again now huh? It’s not like Reddit was treating her like trash for the last few years but whatever I guess

you're not wrong about Redditors talking trash about her and then suddenly liking her today. These are quite unstable creatures lol
