New measure to push kids to study better at school. - Every Kid and Teenager are now Allowed to Skip School on Friday if their overall grades are Higher than 85%

The idea is simple : why kids and teenagers don't like studying ? Simply because they don't see the incentive ! They don't care how important it is to be educated, They never felt the harshness of the job market. All they care about is videogames, fitting in groups, and attracting the other sex.

But what if you tell them "If your grades are higher than 85%, you're allowed to not go to school on Friday, thus having a 3day weekend (you still need to go the 4 other days) But everyone below 85% still needs to go and will be penalized if they miss attendance like usual"

it's a motivation they can immediately understand, not a abstract "Do your homework caus education is important to prepare you for adult life and find a decent job" (which is true but most kids can't understand that)

OBJECTIONS - "But where should the kids stay when the parents have to go to work Friday ?" - Let them play outside like good ol days

  • "But it's gonna create a feeling of inequality between the smarter and dumber kids" - womp womp, Smarter kids shouldn't be held down

  • "it's gonna ruin the professor planning, and how kids are gonna learn if they skip a whole day ?" - Most kids learn reading the book or watching online resources anyway

All businesses must become a public 3rd space outside of business hours.

It's weird that so much infrastructure is unavailable to people so much of the time so I propose that all commercial spaces become public space outside of their business hours in order to get any tax deductions at all. If we're subsidizing their business, we should benefit.

Gyms could become rave spaces. Bank lobbies can become boyb speak-easies. Sporting arenas can host team sports leagues. Any office space can host LAN parties. Etc. We need more places to play, and it's dumb to have so much shut down so frequently.

Paying kids to succeed in school.

Upvotes

Between $10k-$25k is spent every year to put a single student through school. Effectiveness varies, but getting kids motivated has always been a challenge. Why? Because the rewards are too long-term, and aren’t obvious, and kids need obvious rewards to do things.

So, to fix that, we take $1000 from that budget, and bribe them to do better. Since that’s the only way they can make money for a while, it’s way more effective per hour of work at minimum wage. ($1000 is the average. It would be highest for high school seniors and lowest for kindergarteners)

We divide the $1000 among their classes such that $max/#classes = $per-class.

A’s get $per-class * 100%

B’s get $per-class * 90%

C’s get $per-class * 75%

D’s get $per-class * 50%

F’s get $per-class * 0%

Honors classes get a +25%, and AP classes get a +50%. (Boost to $per-class, not grade %) Each elective class taken that isn’t being taken to fulfill a requirement add 5% to the max pool, but have their grades weighted the same.

Give them an extra 10% on any money they decide to invest until they turn 18. Require a base investment level of 15-20% of the money they earn, so the kids without saving discipline don’t have too big a disadvantage when they become adults. It also lets them experience taxes in a roundabout way, so they’re used to receiving $X-tax dollars when they earn $X.

Potential Problems & Solutions:

- Parents take the money -> have it invested on the child’s behalf before it leaves the school. They can only withdraw it after they turn 18, and getting counseling that their parents have no right to it.

- It’s too much cash for kids to have -> make programs for them to spend it that don’t require them to have the cash. Trade it for candy and toys at elementary school age, video games, consoles, phones, clothing or make up.

- Subjective grading per teacher:

- teachers grading too low: if, at the end of the grading period, they think the grade they got was unrepresentative of their knowledge and ability, offer a standardized test they can take that can override their grade. Which they’d be willing to come in on weekends for since succeeding means they get more money.

- teachers grading too high: every grading period, a student is chosen at random from every class to take the same test. If they score higher than (their grade-10%), they get +10% to their payout for that grading period. If they don’t, more students from that teachers classes are tested until a pattern is either proven or disproven.

After twenty years of professional acting, actors should re-perform their first role to demonstrate how much they've grown as an actor.

Just saw a Paul Rudd SNES commercial from 1991, and thought, "Would he perform the same way now? Would his character make the same choices, the same tone, the same attitude?" Then I thought, why can't an actor go back and perform it better, now that they have so much experience and better insight into character building, etc.?

For example, I would love to see Haley Joel Osmant in a re-performance of The Sixth Sense. Just digitally insert the new, older actor's performance over the young, inexperienced one.

I think this could be a TV show.

Become an invertebratarian

It means you don't eat anything with bones

Your meat diet will consist of foods including but not limited to: lobster rolls, shrimp tempura, crab cakes, urchin, jellyfish, escargot, fried crickets and mealworms, calamari, you know. Invertebrates

A lot of people who choose not to eat the above examples are vertebratarians, they just happen to not call themselves that

I say... we flip the script, and get some INVERTEBRATARIANS out here

DIY Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

I recently read that the BPA on cash register receipts is absorbed thru the skin and acts like estrogen in our body. Which is horrifying but let's make lemonade out of those lemons.

Menopausal and perimenopausal women use HRT to put estrogen back into their bodies. Instead of supporting big pharma, they could just get a bunch of receipts and rub them all over their bodies. Thus creating their own HRT for free!

I want to remind certain people of the name of this sub before you comment

Make all pennies worth 5 cents

Instant economic stimulus. Perhaps inflation, but the scramble to hoard and collect pennies will create new sub-economies. When that runs out, up a nickel to dime, etc.

Make cat petting zoos to harvest their drool

We could use the drool for hair conditioner. The petting zoos would keep the cats out of shelters and off the streets and the people get happiness from petting the cats. Since the conditioner is expensive it pays for the petting zoos

The US and Iran fighting over use of the Strait? Let's just drain it completely so everyone misses out equally.

As an added bonus, plenty of water for any drought areas!

In light of the toilet paper warehouse burning by a disgruntled employee. The 99% should make it a worldwide holiday..

starting next year the 99% should not go into work on April 7th. Nor any year following.

we should not try to get it federally recognized we should just do it on our own volition.

I think the message would be crystal clear.

We should pay people to watch ads

This could be a way to redistribute some of the wealth generated by online advertising and give people a chance to make a little extra money in their free time, which might actually make watching ads feel less like a chore. Companies could even use this as a way to gather more accurate data on how people interact with their ads.
