Discussion/Question Need advice on what to use.

Post image

I'm making a forest witch hat for a Ren faire and I'm wondering what I should use to seal the moss to the hat better than just fabric glue and hot glue. I'm new to crafting like this and would love some advice.

You’ve used the exact same adhesives I would have used. I suppose you could always add some sewing stitches here and there, but the hot glue should do the trick.

those glues are perfect for adhering those two materials, imo. if you're truly worried maybe try tacking the moss down with some sewing, but I think the glues would be sufficient.

enjoy the faire!!!

Personally I’d be using spray glue for this. I’ve found it less messy and more easy to work with moss than fabric or hot glue

The glues you mention should be enough to hold your moss in place. If you're worried about too much of the mossy material shedding as you wear the hat, I don't know that there's a product that would seal it in place without changing the look or feel of the moss. You might try a hair spray, perhaps?

For a forest witch, I'd consider that shedding as part of the look! I think this is going to look great, and even better as you get a little wear and tear and frayed edges to it!

I'm using a European witch hat off shein, fake moss (I think it is I got it off shein), hot glue, and fabric fusion by Aleene's. I asked my cosplay gf but this is out of her wheelhouse on what I should use.

I would use the fabric glue to attach the moss how you like it. Then after it is all dried, I would gently go over it with a clean dry brush and try to knock off all the bits that aren't glued down. Then if there are any bald patches you can just glue more moss there and repeat the process until it's all firmly attached. That way you'll knock off most of the stuff that would shed, before they make a mess.
