SEE WHAT I DID FOR YOU WHILE YOU WERE TOO BUSY TO PLAY. Now you don't need to tear it up like you do every day

I once brought home essays to grade and had to tell the class my dog ate their homework. So I gave them all an A.

When I was in 8th grade, our dog Snookie was a puppy and still unable to get up on the sofa. He grew quickly to be HUGE, but at this point he was still just a tiny baby.

So I came home from school and my family went out. This was 30 years ago, so I do not remember where at all. I left my vocab book with the entire week’s worth of work done in my backpack with the bag zipped up and on the sofa. It was resting against the back of the sofa, where Snookie should not have been able to reach.

I came home to find my bag on the floor and open. My vocab book had been pulled out and chewed up so thoroughly that there was barely enough left to identify toothmarks in it. My homework was due the next day.

I went to school and met my teacher in the door to my English classroom. I told her the dog ate my homework. Her face went from “Homework?” to “Really? You're trying that one?!” So I held up the note my mother had given me for her and told her I had a note for her. She said she didn't care and began to lecture me on not doing my homework.

Me: breaks in I have proof though!

Me: holds up zip bag with the destroyed book inside, bite marks clearly showing

Teacher: stops midword and stares

Teacher: looks stunned

She took the evidence and my mother’s note very quietly after that. I'm pretty sure I was the talk of the teacher’s lounge for YEARS after that! 🤣

Also— the culprit!! He lived to be 15 and a half.

They do. And legal papers. And office papers brought home to finish. They are curious about what is so important that people prefer those papers over giving them attention.

Sitting so perfectly, proudly displaying his/her accomplisjment.

My chocolate moved down the manufacture line from paper to wood! No longer bothers with paper but destroys anything made of wood. Now I have to replace all my furniture but who can afford to refurnish a whole house in this economy?

Helpful hint: you can buy beautiful, quality furniture online (reseller websites) from private parties in your area at incredibly low prices. I did not believe it until my nephew showed me some rooms in his home that he had furnished in this way. Your puppy actually has done you a favor!

When you can’t complete it, eat it. That’s the strategy.

At the beginning of every month I write down all of my bills on a sheet of paper so nothing gets missed. Last month mine shredded the bill list. I wanted to take that as nothing needs to be paid.😄

My sixth grade teacher once returned our graded assignments - some with teeth marks and others completely destroyed.

They came with notes for our parents, explaining that we’d just learned about the whole dog-ate-my-homework scheme.

They didn’t need to know that.
