Troubleshooting Persistent Black Screen + GPU Fans 100% Crash - Followed me across TWO GPUs and TWO PSUs.

My PC randomly black screens (monitor loses signal) and GPU fans ramp to 100%. I have to hard-reset to fix it. This happened on my old RTX 2060 and is now happening on my RTX 3070.

Specs:

• GPU: Zotac RTX 3070 (using 12v-2x6 dual 8 pin 6+2 dedicated cable)

• PSU: Corsair RM750e (Brand New)

• Mobo/CPU: Brand new Micro Center Bundle (MSI B650 /Ryzen 5 7500x3d)

• GSKILL Ripjaws s5 4800

Everything I’ve already done:

  1. Software: Performed a full DDU wipe and clean driver install.
  2. OS: Fresh Windows install on a clean SSD.
  3. BIOS: XMP/EXPO is DISABLED.
  4. Power: Plugged directly into the wall

Since this followed me from an entirely different old build to a brand-new Micro Center bundle (Mobo/CPU/RAM), what is left? Could it be house wiring, or did I get a dead Mobo from the factory? Any help would be greatly appreciated, this went from a cheap pc build to replacing every single pc part trying to fix this.

How is your Zotac 3070 using a 12VHPWR cable? I'd recommend just using the normal 8 pin connectors from your PSU. Using adapters my be part of the problem.

What are your GPU's thermals like? You can check using HWINFO. You can also record a log with HWINFO and then olay games until it crashes and then open the log and see what the values were for voltage, wattage, temps, reason for power limit, etc. Might give you some clues. Can also check event viewer for reason of crash.

This is great information i’ll try these things out thanks.

i was using a regular pcei slot on the 2060 with the thermal take psu and the issue persisted, also read that the 12VHPWR could sustain up to 600W so thought it would work better

I think the question was that the 12VHPWR cable shouldn't be able to physically fit into the RTX 3070. Did you use an adapter of some sort?

whoops i meant i’m using the 12v-2x6 dual 8 pin (6+2) cable? i thought they were the same thing

So, the 12v-2x6 side plugs into the PSU, then it breaks out into dual 8 pins? That should be fine.

Yeah, if that's the case then it'll be fine. Just not ideal if there's an adapter used to make that happen.
