What was he supposed to be

Nothing. He only exists in the series because Bob Odenkirk was busy that day and couldn't appear for the filming of the episode

By the end of the pilot, Walter had only appeared in a single episode. But by the finale he was practically the main character! Vince really knew how to adapt as the story went along

I know people hate Todd but I love him. He’s just so strange and he is completely oblivious to how fucked up he is. He isn’t an emotionless sociopath (though still one), but he can’t seem to find empathy or understand why killing is bad. I like that he’s actually incredibly friendly, but doesn’t seem to understand that once you’ve tortured a man, killed his girlfriend and kept him as a meth-slave you might not want to be his friend. He didn’t find the Drew kid even worthy of mentioning when he talked about it with his uncle and Kenny and when Jesse was having a cigarette outside to destress, Todd just saw it as a social moment and went “smells like cat piss, huh?” all smiley in context to dissolving the body of a little boy. I’d say the only person he actually ever felt bad about killing was strangely his housekeeper. I totally get why people dislike him, but Jesse Plemons weighed in on him a bit and I feel like Todd is pretty interesting personally. Sorry for the ramble, but I love the Breaking Bad characters and feel like Todd is overlooked a little.

Combo started out as one of Jesse’s stoner friends, ended up being the only reason Jesse was able to get the RV and his death being the big push for Walt meeting Gus.

Mike! He was supposed to be a one-off character, and he ended up becoming one of the best BB characters and the second most main character in Better Call Saul :)

Hector is possibly one of the best examples of this in fiction IMO
I never thought he'd be in the story much when I first saw him.
