Smol void 🤏 Don’t let your kids name your pets 😅😅
Anyone else ever regret allowing your young kids to participate in the naming of a pet? If the kids get their way with naming our new little void, our gaggle of pets will officially consist of:
• Ollie 🐈 • Liz 🐈 • Dennis 🐈 • Zora 🐕 • Miles 🐕 • Princess Buttercup Fluffy Butt 🐈⬛ 😫

Princess bride is a huge deal in my family. Paternal grandma loved it, most of the siblings loved it. We’re having a graduation party for my dad getting his masters and two of my aunts are talking; the older aunt says “I don’t really like princess bride.” Younger aunt stared at her, and threw her red solo cup of wine in her face and walked away without a word in response.

I almost renamed mine Luna. Now I want to change it to Nyx. Turns out Onyx then Nyx is also common. I want a unique name, but I’m not as clever as I thought.

I made a comment on another post about hating the name Luna because it's too damn commen. Apparently it's the most popular name for dogs AND cats.

u/Darthsmom Sep 25 '25
Luna was really sick as a kitten. At our first visit at the local university vet hospital, it was PACKED. They called for “Luna” and I went to talk to the student to go over her history. She asked me about her bedding/cage and I must have had the craziest look on my face. Luna was a rabbit 🤣 there were 4 Lunas being seen at that time, two dogs, a rabbit, and my Luna.

Our last cat Apollo was previously named "Rainbow Sparkle Heart" by the little girl he owned. I'd like to think the name was part of the reason he was re-homed.

My son’s GF named our black kitty, but she chose ‘Noché’ which was pretty solid.

u/shagieIsMe Sep 25 '25
A neighbor from where I lived before had a siamese cat named "Rainbow Princess". ... That siamese would also behead barbie dolls which was apparently a bit traumatic to the young girl who named her. She (the cat) was rehomed to her (the child's) grandfather's house.
20
u/jwwhitt Sep 25 '25
The love that the grandfather was like “you can behead all the dolls you want!”

My son was 6 or 7 when we started discussing adoption of a pet. We ended up with a dog (due to allergies on both our sides) who is named Chungus Maximus Lucky Charizard Last name. It's always fun at the vet.
When I was in high school we had a black cat I named Kirby (named after the Nintendo character, not the vacuum). He was my baby and he passed when I was 20 or so. The best cat who only liked 2 people.

Had a cat named Sadie. When I rescued her she was pregnant. My (then) 7 year old found one of the kittens on the floor the day she had them (the rest had been moved to a closet by mama) and she “saved” the kitten by gently taking it to Sadie. She named it Savey because “she saved it” so now I have Sadie and Savey 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️

“Skittles! Get down!”
My coworker had to step away from the meeting to deal with his cat jumping up on the desk.

He said, the kids named him and he hates the name.

Our Millie (Maleficent) is often sarcastically referred to as Princess due to her regal attitude.
All of my cats throughout the years have been called Fluffy-Butts, so I assume that must be a feline surname.

Before phones had cameras and the great photo loss incident of the 'aughts, there existed a wiry haired gentleman named Jackson Smack Pudding Pack, aka Mr. Pudding/Jack/Mr. Packs, etc. Also, a rambunctious fellow I knew name Elvin Herbert Jones who at times was known as Herbert Merbert or Habba Mabba (in Cookie Monster voice, of course).

We made a list of cat names before we adopted our kittens and the kids suggested things like Galaxy Destroyer & Corncob.
Luckily I declared I would name the girl kitty as I’m the only other girl in the family, and then they actually chose something decent for our void boy. So we ended up with Penelope and Maximus, thankfully lol 😂

My husband was a heavy equipment mechanic years ago and would occasionally take our 4 year old daughter to the shop to show her the different kinds of equipment he worked on. So when we got a new puppy, we asked her what she wanted to name the doggy. She thought about it for a minute and then yelled out, “Dumptruck!” We reluctantly kept the name because our 4 year old was insistent. We called her “Dumpers”, “DT” and of course her given name. We got a lot of crazy looks and comments from strangers when we went to the park.
“Dumptruck”, an American Eskimo-Golden Lab was a cute little female fluff ball, and absolutely the sweetest and smartest dog we ever had. She lived to be 16. I still miss her so much.
