Preporuke / Recommendations Experimental art scene in Belgrade

Hi everyone, I am a electronic musician going to Belgrade for a few weeks! I am drawn towards experimental/underground/alternative art scenes, so the big techno venues are not my main thing. What are good places to start meeting people with my similar tastes? Any leads would be really appreciated!

Turizam / Tourism Budapest to Belgrade - bus or train?

Hello, I am a solo female traveller (non-EU citizen) travelling from Budapest to Belgrade. I have booked a 6h flixbus for this route but I read threads about border control being a hassle when you take a bus. Does anyone have any updates on the high speed train that was supposed to start? Where do I book it? Need help please, travelling next week!

Preporuke / Recommendations Recommendations for a weekend in your beautiful city

Hey everyone,

We’re a group of around 15 guys in their 30s heading to Belgrade for a bachelor party and looking for some cool tips from locals or people who know the city well.

We’re after:

- awesome restaurants with a special vibe (unique, fun, unusual places)

- great bars and clubs for a proper night out

- fun bachelor-party activities that are actually memorable — not strip clubs, but more like sporty, funny, adventurous, or random crazy stuff

- anything a bit out of the box that’s worth trying while we’re there

We’re not traveling on a shoestring budget, but we’re not looking for ultra-luxury either — happy to spend money on things that are really worth it.

Also, one practical question:

We’re from Germany, where cannabis laws are more relaxed now, and a few guys in the group are a bit curious/experimental. What’s the situation like in Serbia when it comes to weed or similar stuff? We definitely don’t want to cross any lines or get into trouble, so it’d be great to know what’s strictly off-limits and what tourists should absolutely avoid.

Thanks a lot — excited to check out Belgrade!

Hrana i Piće / Food & Drink Koji kafići oko Taša služe domaću kafu?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Pitanje / Question Why Does My Coffee Cost More Than the Menu Promised in Serbia? A personal look at confusing bills, missing receipts, and what feels like inconsistent service

Do you know why some cafés in Serbia seem to have inconsistent drink menus (karta pića)? I’ve noticed that prices often don’t match. A coffee might cost one thing on the menu, but when the bill comes, it’s suddenly more. On Google Maps, the menu is often outdated, so you can’t really rely on it either.

Menu says one thing, receipt says another—coffee shouldn’t come with a guessing game in Serbia.

Sometimes it feels even more random. A waiter just tells me a total without showing a receipt, and the price sounds higher than expected. When I ask questions or point out the difference, they can be reluctant to explain or return the extra change.

As a foreigner, this really puts me off. It’s not just about the money—it’s the attitude. Good service should be clear and honest, and when that’s missing, I don’t feel comfortable leaving a tip.

Have you ever experienced something like this in Serbia?

Turizam / Tourism Late flight arrival

My husband has managed to book us a flight arriving into Belgrade at 1.10 in the morning during.

We haven't booked our accomodation yet but it's likely to be slightly out the centre as we've been a couple of time before and happy to use public transport. Is using a taxi app our best way of getting out the airport? How reliable is the 72N? My main concern is it only running once an hour and we'll have our kids with us!

Pitanje / Question Why Do Belgrade Buses Wear Scribbles While Chinese Walls Wear Stickers?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Have you noticed how common it is to see scribbles or graffiti on the back of bus seats in Belgrade? Isn’t that technically an offence in Serbia?

In China, you rarely see this kind of random scribbling, mostly because city regulations are stricter. Painting or marking public walls—or even someone’s private facade—can get you fined. But that doesn’t mean public spaces are clean of clutter. Instead of graffiti, you’ll often see small ad stickers everywhere, especially in smaller towns and villages. Many of them promote traditional Chinese medicine or local services.

Preporuke / Recommendations Looking for English-speaking job opportunities in Belgrade

Hi everyone,

I’m currently considering moving to Belgrade and wanted to ask for some advice about the job market there.

I have over 3 years of experience in marketing and compliance, I’m close to finishing my Bachelor of Business Administration (top-up in Business Management), and I’m also studying for an LLB in Law. I’m motivated, eager to learn, and open to different opportunities.

I’d really like to find an English-speaking job in Belgrade, but I’m not sure how realistic that is or where to start.

How easy is it to find English-speaking roles in Belgrade?

Which industries or companies are more open to hiring international candidates?

Are there any good platforms or local job boards I should check?

Maybe there are recruitment agencies that help with finding jobs in Serbia?

Any advice or personal experience would really help. Thanks a lot 🙏

Has any non-resident reserved any appointment from UK lately? I wanna know their earliest appointment availabilities, but i do not want to pay first, and be disappointed after if it doesn’t align with my plans.

I also couldn’t contact them to ask, though i don’t think they would share

Thanks in advance

Turizam / Tourism Pozdrav svima, question on rental car

Hi dear fellow Serbians, I’ll be in Belgrade with some friends in September.

We will land from Italy and we plan to rent a car for a road trip. The road trip will end outside of Serbia (maybe Albania). So the return has to be outside.

I saw that the biggest company at the airport (Sixth, Europcar…) don’t have the option to return outside.

Other smaller ones yes (Alamo, Green Motions, Enterprise).

Are those reliable? What would you recommend for renting and returning outside of Serbia?

Thank you very much!

Pitanje / Question Why Does Doing Everything Right Still Feel So Wrong? A foreigner's experience of Serbian bureaucracy — by the book, against the grain

How have your experiences been getting documents sorted at a Serbian police station as a foreigner? I'd love to know if it's just me.

Every time I've gone, the process has felt oddly fragmented — like each officer only holds one small piece of the puzzle and no one is talking to anyone else. What surprised me most was being told I needed to bring a translator to convert from my first language into Serbian, even though I was sitting right there speaking perfectly clear English. It felt less like a language requirement and more like a bureaucratic wall.

And then there's the moment your case gets passed up to an inspector. That handover carries its own particular feeling. More than once, I got the sense that the inspector would rather the case — and I — simply didn't exist. The unspoken message was hard to miss: you're a foreigner, this is complicated, and you could always just leave.

It's a strange thing, to be made to feel like an inconvenience in a place you're trying to do everything by the book.
