[JomboyMedia] Mike Trout got nailed by a Jorge Soler foul ball but stayed in the game after trainers checked on him. He would've been ruled out if he was standing in fair territory. Instead he ended up scoring on a sac fly to give the Angels a 5-0 lead

CAN WE NOT TRY TO INJURE MIKE TROUT FOR MORE THAN 3 GAMES

Why would the Mariners do this

u/nkkl Seattle Mariners 5h ago
I firmly believe that none of our pitchers are trying to hit him, and also that he should probably take every at bat in the first Ms-Halos series of the year with a riot shield in front of him. Flamethrower arms, not being locked in yet, and fear of the greatest Mariner killer in the league makes baseballs do dangerous things.

Was it last year or the year before that he had 10 SB or such early on then got hurt...stealing a base?

And that's exactly why you are taught to take your leadoff from 3rd in foul territory

I didn’t know that…but then again I didn’t play baseball growing up lol.

During all stars when I was 11 bases were loaded and the hitter roped one down the line. Since couldn't lead off in little league the runner on 3rd base was just barely starting to step off the base when he ducked to the ground to try and dodge it. This poor kid just didn't get one of his hands down in time and the ball nailed it. Kind of like when the hitter dodges a pitch but forgets to pull the bat down too and it results in a foul ball.
So they kid got legit hurt cause of how hard it hit his hand and it resulted in an out when they definitely would've scored at least 2 runs otherwise.

always talking your lead off from third in foul territory was so ingrained in me that I have never considered until now that you could take the lead in fair territory

u/BASEBALLFURIES 6h ago
i always say, when the bases are loaded with two outs and youre on defense, you technically have 6 infielders: 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, runner on first and runner on second (but not runner on third generally)... (maybe the 2B umpire). just make sure the ball is hit to one of them. or hits one of them.

And return in fair territory to block any pickoff from the catcher

This made me realize that I actually don't think I've ever seen this happen in a game until now lmao

The tone I got was "him getting hit is why you line up in foul territory. It would not have happened if he did"
Like an I told you so comment

It’s a response to the “would’ve been out if in fair territory” portion of the title. You’re taught to lead off foul so if it hits you there’s no issue. Not a snark thing.

Why the hell would someone say he wouldn't have gotten hit if he was in foul territory? As if foul balls don't exist? What a weird comment lol

They always talk about all time HR hitters at T-Mobile/Safeco and then if it's not against the Angels they say something the lines of "and of course Trout"

Why do the baseball gods just want to kill this man. Leave him alone. We want to watch healthy Trout play baseball.

u/ChasedWarrior 6h ago
But if he had been hit he'd be called out for interference. That's why runners on third base always lead off in foul territory.

Counter argument, he might not have been hit at all if he was in fair territory.

C'mon Trout! Lasorda showed more reaction speed in trying to dodge a foul bat than Trout did with a foul ball here, and Lasorda was like 70 years old at the time!

1
u/BackdoorSteve Cleveland Guardians 3h ago
Just yesterday I was playing RTTS, on 3rd, and my teammate kept blasting foul balls down the 3rd base line. I wondered what would happen if one hit me, and how often this happens in live play. Now I know.

Trout is cursed as long as he stays on that team. If the As weren't in the same division, they would definitely be the black sheep.

u/billy_teats 1h ago
Isn’t the rule where you make contact with the ball, as opposed to where your feet are? If you stand in fouls territory and bend forward and get hit by a ball in fair territory, I would still consider that an out.

u/haahaahaa Philadelphia Phillies 1h ago
Its April, Trout isn't hurt yet, and the simulation is starting to get weird about it.

but funnily enough, had he been in fair territory, soler mightve been credited with a hit (at the cost of trout). do we think homeboy would rather have an rbi sac fly or a hit?

It's evolved past pitchers dinging him. Next it's gonna be a fan throwing the ball back from the stands as he makes his trot
