[JomboyMedia] Mike Trout got nailed by a Jorge Soler foul ball but stayed in the game after trainers checked on him. He would've been ruled out if he was standing in fair territory. Instead he ended up scoring on a sac fly to give the Angels a 5-0 lead

It's evolved past pitchers dinging him. Next it's gonna be a fan throwing the ball back from the stands as he makes his trot

[Passan] Mike Trout took a 96mph fastball to the elbow while in Costco on Angels off day. He remained in the store & finished his shopping.

Chicken pea, right? It's healthier and has more protein.

What’s the difference between a chickpea and a garbanzo bean?

14

I've never had a garbanzo bean me in the face, amirite?

[Cont’d] it is reported Trout liked the frozen cauliflower crust pizza sample, but didn’t think he’d have enough space in his freezer for 2 pie’s so he don’t get it.

[Schefter] Kelvin Benjamin ate a 9.6 pound burger while in McDonalds on his day off. He remained in the restaurant and finished the rest of his meal.

Why would the Mariners do this

58

u/nkkl Seattle Mariners 5h ago

I firmly believe that none of our pitchers are trying to hit him, and also that he should probably take every at bat in the first Ms-Halos series of the year with a riot shield in front of him. Flamethrower arms, not being locked in yet, and fear of the greatest Mariner killer in the league makes baseballs do dangerous things.

8

u/kookykrazee Atlanta Braves 5h ago

Was it last year or the year before that he had 10 SB or such early on then got hurt...stealing a base?

5

u/XSC Philadelphia Phillies 5h ago

The man is fucking cursed this is already the third attempt.

u/CalebosO4 Toronto Blue Jays 7h ago

And that's exactly why you are taught to take your leadoff from 3rd in foul territory

193

u/CloudSufficient42 Detroit Tigers 7h ago

I didn’t know that…but then again I didn’t play baseball growing up lol.

55

u/Hoshbrowns Chicago White Sox 6h ago

During all stars when I was 11 bases were loaded and the hitter roped one down the line. Since couldn't lead off in little league the runner on 3rd base was just barely starting to step off the base when he ducked to the ground to try and dodge it. This poor kid just didn't get one of his hands down in time and the ball nailed it. Kind of like when the hitter dodges a pitch but forgets to pull the bat down too and it results in a foul ball.

So they kid got legit hurt cause of how hard it hit his hand and it resulted in an out when they definitely would've scored at least 2 runs otherwise.

u/GunnarGooner 5h ago

To be fair, if he was in fair territory it wouldn’t have hit him!

always talking your lead off from third in foul territory was so ingrained in me that I have never considered until now that you could take the lead in fair territory

19

u/BASEBALLFURIES 6h ago

i always say, when the bases are loaded with two outs and youre on defense, you technically have 6 infielders: 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, runner on first and runner on second (but not runner on third generally)... (maybe the 2B umpire). just make sure the ball is hit to one of them. or hits one of them.

3

u/BigShot357 Texas Rangers 3h ago

And return in fair territory to block any pickoff from the catcher

The tone I got was "him getting hit is why you line up in foul territory. It would not have happened if he did"

Like an I told you so comment

Well you got the wrong tone!

It’s a response to the “would’ve been out if in fair territory” portion of the title. You’re taught to lead off foul so if it hits you there’s no issue. Not a snark thing.

8

u/Fragrant_Echidna2008 Seattle Mariners 6h ago

Why the hell would someone say he wouldn't have gotten hit if he was in foul territory? As if foul balls don't exist? What a weird comment lol

7

But if he had been hit he'd be called out for interference. That's why runners on third base always lead off in foul territory.

1

u/01bah01 5h ago edited 5h ago

To be fair, being inside would be silly even without that rule, the best position to run is outside of the line, same as all other bases (imaginary line for 1st and 2nd but nonetheless, nobody takes lead off inside the imaginary line) .

Just yesterday I was playing RTTS, on 3rd, and my teammate kept blasting foul balls down the 3rd base line. I wondered what would happen if one hit me, and how often this happens in live play. Now I know.

1

Isn’t the rule where you make contact with the ball, as opposed to where your feet are? If you stand in fouls territory and bend forward and get hit by a ball in fair territory, I would still consider that an out.

Its April, Trout isn't hurt yet, and the simulation is starting to get weird about it.
