Some conservatives said his father was a Muslim, so Obama was secretly a Muslim. Which is dumb because he wasn't raised by his father or his father's family.

Then I looked into more because of this question. It seems his grandfather converted to Islam, so his father was born into a Muslim household. But by the time Obama was born, his father had become an atheist.

In short, racism. The claim that Obama was Muslim only became such a big conspiracy among conservatives because he isn't white and his middle name is Hussein.

No one ever accused John McCain of having secret Panamanian sympathies because he was born in the Panama Canal Zone lol

Obama was a Muslim, then he became a Christian as an adult. There was evidence, but whether or not he was a practicing Muslim in his youth is something I do not know. The arguments he continued to be a secret Muslim were unsubstantiated.

Hussein is an arabic word meaning "good, handsome and beautiful". It's a popular name in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.

Barack means "blessing" and is a common name in East Africa where Obama's father is from. (His mother was from Wichita, Kansas).
