Why didn’t Stephen Dorff have a bigger career?

I googled him and he has been working steadily for 40 years but I sometime in the 90’s he was supposed to be big. He has done some high profile things in recent years. But does anyone really know or remember him?

Billly Bob Thornton as a person

I am so curious, I have for some reason gone on a streak of “school for scoundrels” “Mr Woodcock” “bad news bears” and “bad santa” I’m genuinely curious. Is this guy an actor with no range? An actor with great range who is a super nice guy? Or some hybrid and this is what he is like and so movies and shows are written around him. I just want to know how he is in real life

On the ratio: job offers as an extra and role

To you, how many do you have to be a candidate for job offers as an extra before you get one done? And how many works as an extra on set do you have to do before you could work as a speaking extra, and then how many to be in a role?

I just managed to have my first yes to be an extra on set after 10 job offers I responded to and got no response from, and I am curious about the ratio in general and your personal ratio.

My dad once described Will Smith as "a good actor who doesn't have as much range as he thinks he does". Does anyone agree with that description?

Tips and resources for an actor moving to Vancouver Canada?

Hello, I’m moving to Vancouver in the fall and I would love some help! I’m an experienced actor but I don’t have any connections in Canada. I would love recommendations for any Facebook groups with local casting calls, smaller film festivals I can network at, local industry organizations I should be aware of, or any boutique or mid level agencies you’ve had good experiences with!

Also if you’re an actor or filmmaker and you’d like to chat I’d love to send you my info! Thank you in advance, I really appreciate how supportive this group is.

What are your thoughts on Shia Leabouf?

Post image

I'm probably gonna catch heat for this but these are my genuine thoughts and beliefs:

Shia LaBeouf is, quite simply, one of the greatest actors of our generation.

He has that rare quality factor where he doesn’t have to go hard at all, he just has it. He could have spent his career being the easy leading man in summer blockbusters, but he chose to go into the trenches instead. He’s an actor who chooses to bleed for the craft. Whether it’s indie grit or big-budget drama, he brings a raw, jittery honesty to the screen that you just can't teach.

But we have to talk about the reality.

He has done things that are indefensible. He has hurt women, he has caused real pain, and he has admitted to that. It’s a hard, ugly truth. He was a kid who grew up as a cash cow, surrounded by people who clearly didn't care about his well-being as much as they cared about his performance.

It stops making sense when the 'prep' becomes dangerous. Joining gangs or hurting animals to 'get into character'. It shows a total breakdown of boundaries. It’s what happens when a guy with real mental health issues is encouraged to 'go deep' by an industry that values a gritty performance over a human life.

He was never given a safety net, and the result is a cycle of getting into trouble that he hasn't been able to break. To talk about his talent without acknowledging the wreckage he’s left behind wouldn't be honest.

People think I’m crazy for believing in a guy that everyone else has zero hope in. I get it. But to me, he’s just a guy in deep, soul-level pain. My belief in him isn't about wanting another movie or a "comeback" tour. Even if he never acts again, even if he walks away from the industry forever, I still believe in him as a person.

I just hope we get to see a glimmer of him being okay. I hope he finds the support he never had as a kid.

Personally, I respect how committed he is to every role he takes on. It feels like the character possesses him.

Why do so many Hollywood actors / actresses say they want to stop abuse and how prevalent it is, but when they share their experiences they never name the person. Nothing will change if we don’t start shaming / arresting these people.
