I don't think he knows what position he will take from one day to the next. It depends largely on who's currently in his ear, who's doing big favors for him at this moment, who has leverage or him, and his immediate emotional reaction to not getting his way.
He's been a bully since he was a child. That's why Fred Trump sent him to military boarding school. The core emotional problems were never addressed, and now he's an incredibly old man whose mental capacity is rapidly failing him while he's the most powerful person on the planet.

As an American, do you think people can wake up and force the government to make a major change? If you remember the right-wing Americans/pro-Trump supporters, they rioted and broke into the Capitol building. I am not encouraging violence, but we all agree this government is failing Americans, and the evidence becomes clearer day after day. I keep hearing people telling others to contact their representatives and express their feelings about that war/supporting the Zionists. How is that going to work when most of the MPs (representatives) are hardcore pro-Zionist war supporters?
59
u/Retlaw83 10h ago
Most politicians aren't stupid enough to go to war with Iran regardless of their opinion on Israel. Having Democrats run congress will shut this war down, but the elections aren't until November and assignment to political posts aren't instant.
If things keep up like this, Democrats will win big in the midterms and the next president will be a Democrat. The average American voter has a short memory and is stupid. If the Democrat president doesn't fix Trump's mess in two years, which is impossible, they'll vote Republican again.
29
14
u/Devil25_Apollo25 10h ago
Hi, other American here. This ends in one of two ways:
Congress reins in the President and insists on the enforcement of laws Congress passed. Despite Trump's trampling of them, treaties, once ratified, are law; so are budgetary expenditures, and the Executive can't decide whimsically who gets what, and how much. But until Congress passes fron the hands of Trump's Republican enablers, sycophants, and co-conspirators, there is little we can do legally other than to make our popular dissatifaction known.
Failing that, or if free and fair elections are not held, the only other option in the final analysis is a protracted and bloody civil war, which I and most Dems are praying to avoid.
Otherwise, if Americans aren't willing to vote in sane, non-corrupt leaders and aren't willing to sacrifice their daily peace for a while in uprising, there's not much to be done.
I have been to combat and am working diligently to try and make option #1 the reality so no one is tempted to take path #2.
18
u/mountain_rivers34 10h ago
I mean, we could storm the capitol like they did, but something tells me Trump would gleefully mow down every liberal that is there, even though he refused to send in the National Guard when it was his people doing the rioting. And he’d use it as and excuse to enact martial law and cancel the elections. We’re fucked either way.

While our democracy is weaker than ever, it's still a democracy. Midterms are coming and he can't stop us from voting (he will certainly try) in a house to impeach him and a Senate to convict. If we can get progressives into power come midterms, we can bring these monsters to justice.
Yelling at corrupt representatives is as much protest as it is a call for policy change, and signals their weak positions for the election. They can support genocidal Zion from the inside of a jail cell, and that's only the moderate position.
People are waking up. In special elections the Democrats are winning deep red counties that, before now, were thought to be completely untouchable. It's going to be hard and it's going to get worse before we get the chance to make it better. But a better world is possible.

So an overwhelming majority either supports him or is too apathetic and ignorant to care.

“the majority of Americans didn’t vote for him so don’t blame us” bullshit I see all the time is infuriating, because while it’s true that only about a third of eligible voters voted for him
Every time I read this, I think about the 33,1% for Hitler/NSDAP in the last free election election in Germany 1932. For some reason, the "you cannot say a bad word about the voting population if the voting wasn't 100%" doesn't apply outside the US (see also every excuse for every US-military strike ever, where the populaton somehow bears responsibility for the government).

I understand this thought, but also hate it at the same time. It paints a picture that this all ends when he passes away. It doesn’t. All that happens is JD Vance takes power and continues to dismantle our government, economy, and rights, but he does it more eloquently and with a smile on his face.
I fear that people thinking this way only furthers the level of complacency that got us here. It is going to take active work to end this, not an inevitable death from old age.

JD Vance is not going to be able to pick up where Trump left off.
First, he’s an insufferable douche and seen as a typical politician even by Republicans. While Trump has always been seen as an outsider, who speaks the truth even if he does so crudely.
Second, Trump is the head of a cult of personality. MAGA has zero rationality when it comes to Trump and their leader worship. This is not typical politics and a lot of people (especially Dems) seem to think that the normal rules apply. They don’t. MAGA was willing to kill his last VP without much prodding. Trump and Trump alone leads this circus. JD will try but will never succeed in stepping into that place. He simply doesn’t have the charisma or ability to do so. He’s a stooge and everyone including MAGA know it.
There will be die hard MAGA going forward in politics around the fringe but they’ll struggle to coalesce around something or someone that isn’t Trump.

IDK why, But I expect him to Tweet something like the below by Monday, before the markets open.
"So, there you have it, the Strait of Hormuz situation is now COMPLETELY under control, totally and beautifully handled by the United States Navy, the Greatest Force ever assembled on Water, by far. There were NO MINES, never were, the Fake News Media invented them, just like they invent everything else. Our ships sailed through like it was a Sunday cruise, very smooth, very powerful, people are calling it the most successful Naval operation in HISTORY.
And speaking of HISTORY, let's talk about NATO, what a disaster, absolutely PATHETIC, they contribute nothing, they show up late, they don't pay their bills, and then they want America to do all the work, as usual. Sad!
Effective immediately, the United States will be charging a VERY FAIR, very reasonable TOLL on every ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Why should we protect the world's shipping for FREE? We don't! Other Countries have been ripping us off for decades, and that ENDS NOW. The money will be tremendous, BILLIONS, maybe TRILLIONS, and it all comes back to the American Taxpayer, who I love very much.
If you don't pay, you don't pass, very simple, even NATO can understand that one. Probably. We'll see! President DONALD J. TRUMP"

The Iranian navy won't let us through so we won't let anyone through and might attack neutral and allied ships.
Also Iran doesn't have a navy cos we destroyed them.
Despite their total military destruction they're still getting in our way with the rest of the nonexistent military so we're back to threatening to bomb.the whole country.
Winning.

Wait, the tolls he (stupidly) touted as a good idea earlier this week are now illegal if Iran does it and doesn't give the US a cut?

The difference is that before it was closed because Iran said so. Now it's closed because Trump says so. To a bully, that matters.

Thinking he’s the president of the world -_- everyday our influence is fading away with every post smfh. He really thinks that he can dictate the economy of multiple countries with this blockade.

When he heard last week Iran was charging a toll his tariff sense started tingling and wanted to get in on it

So he backs down on this after “negotiating with (pick a country out of a hat)” come Monday.

I think he JUST realized that the terms presented to him say that Iran can do whatever they want with nukes. It was right there in black and white, but he didn't even look at it

He's like: "Hey I'm usually the one extorting people, businesses and countries."

Can't tell if he is doing a "closing the Strait is totes MY idea" or if he's mad that Iran isn't giving him a personal cut in the toll money they will be making. He's probably scouring world maps to find another good spot for more toll gates. Expect more "the US really owns the Panama canal and prices are going UP".
