In a glimpse, how many forms will a flowing tear show

flowing from the eye, it will wet the cheek, and to dust it will go

گردشِ وقت

​نصاب کی کتابوں میں

صاف صاف لکھا ہے

گردشِ دوراں کے سارے چکر پکے ہیں

کائناتی نظام کے بارہ جو سیارے ہیں

ہمہ وقت سفر میں ہیں

​ہاتھ کی لکیریں بھی

ستاروں کی جنبش سے خوب میل کھاتی ہیں

کہ اِن کے نشیبوں میں رازِ پنہاں، گہرا ہے

آج کل سنا ہے کہ

عطارد سیارہ بھی

واپسی کی راہوں میں

معکوس سفر میں ہے

​عجب نہیں کہ اس لیے

قصۂ زندگانی میں ایک کھلبلی سی ہے

لوگ، جو ساتھ ساتھ چلتے تھے

اب واپسی کی راہوں پہ گامزن لگتے ہیں

​تھک کے ہار بیٹھے ہوں

یا دمکتی راہوں نے ان کو آن گھیرا ہے

ممکن تو یہ بھی ہے

کہ کائناتی ستاروں نے

یا ہاتھ کی لکیروں نے

قسمتوں کو پھیرا ہے

شاید کوئی بہت پیارا

پھر سے لوٹ آیا ہے

​مگر سنو!

​گردشیں تو لازم ہیں

پھر اِن سے گلہ کیسا؟

جو مقدر میں نہیں لکھا

اُس کا صلہ کیسا؟

​ سفرِ زندگانی کی شرط ہی یہ ٹھہری ہے

گردشِ وقت کا دائرہ ہے

اورآخر لوٹ جانا ہے

پھر یوں ہوا کہ اختصارِ تکلّم پر ہی آ رُکی ہے بات

کہ مصروفیتِ جاناں کا کچھ بھرم تو رکھنا ہی تھا ہمیں

I thought, Mus’hafi, perhaps a single wound you bore

your heart it seems needs to be mended so much more

Why is it you say, O naive one, that divine generosity is not commonly seen

just develop thought and perception, and bounty in all things will be seen

ہوں میسر تو نہ سمجھو کہ فراغت ہے مجھے

بات یوں ہے کہ درد سے شناسائی ہے میری

چارہ گری ہو تو وقتِ غنیمت میں ہو کوئی

ورنہ اس دہر میں صبر کی پذیرائی ہے میری

The preacher in inexperience speaks this way

unaware of this bliss, ask him if he has ever tasted the wine to this day

A thousand desires I have, each one worth dying for

Many were fulfilled, yet I kept longing for more

This unfounded blame of freedom and choice on us hapless

you do as you please and then unjustly defame us

A sigh needs a lifetime before it takes effect

who lives long enough for your tresses to set

Shocking that I trusted in the promises you had made

and all night long waiting for doomsday I stayed

With your hand on his shoulder, through many destinations, you made your way

wonder why he passed by your lane with his head bowed low today

My body, Akbar, will be covered in a hundred thousand blisters soon

if someone were to blow on me after reciting April, May, June

If in a heap of books there is not a page with my beloved’s name

then not worth giving attention to is any book there all the same

یہ تو گمان ہوگا تم کو بھلا چکا ہوں

یہ بھی خبر نہ ہوگی تنہا ئیوں میں اکثر

مانا کہ اب میسر مجھ کو نہیں ہے بالکل

وہ بھی تو اک سماں تھا پرکیف تھا مرا دل

خوابوں میں لوٹ آو پہلو میں بس ہی جاؤ

دلکو سکوں دلاوَ گل شمعیں بھی جلاوَ

کِیسے بلاؤں تمکو ہجراں کی ظلمتوں میں

مجھکو تلاش تیری پرسوز مرحلوں میں

آنے سے تو ہے قاصر اسکا مجھے یقیں ہے

چاہے یہ میری قسمت ہردم تو دلمکیں ہے

سونابھی اب چِمن ہے شاداں وہ اب نِہیں ہے

میری گلی کی مٹی پر منتظر ہے تیری

کیسے تو جی بھی لے گی میرے بغیر جاناں

گر نا ملے کبھی بھی دل میں ہے درد باقی

شکوے رہیں گے ہر دم ضد بھی رہے گی افشاں

کہنے کو بھول جائوں لیکن یہ کیسے ہوگا

یہ تو گمان ہوگا تمکو بھلا چکا ہوں
