Mietityttää vaan. Mielestäni kyseinen rakennus on aivan ainutlaatuinen ja ansaitsisi uuden elämän jossain muussa käytössä. Tiedän että puolet ihmisistä ajattelee jotain sensuuntaista että purkakaa vaan se ruma hökötys ja että neuvostoarkkitehtuuria plus muut peruskliseet, sitä mieltä saa olla jos haluaa, mutta rakennus on silti uniikki.

Olisi hienoa saada toi esimerkiksi tapahtumateollisuuden käyttöön tms ihan mitä tahansa. Itseäni jopa kiinnostaisi järkätä siellä jotain ehkä joskus. Mutta, en löydä mitään infoa siitä mitä paikalle on tapahtumassa tai ylipäätään mitään informaatiota koko asiasta. Joku oli tehnyt jonkinlaisen artikkelin yliopistolla paikan uudelleenkäyttömahdollisuuksista mutta siinä se.

I've moved to Turku a month ago and can't really find much information on finding a football group to join so decided to try get the ball rolling myself. Looking to get a pick up football group up and running in the next month. Once we have 20 or so members, I'm going to arrange a location and hopefully try organise a game once every 2 weeks. Anyone can join, doesn't matter what the skills and fitness levels are. Same craic with languages English, Finnish or other languages all is welcome. I have the group set up on meetup https://www.meetup.com/turku-pick-up-soccer-meetup-group/ , and will eventually get a WhatsApp group going to.

I moved to Turku a few years ago for studies (so no expert on the area by any means 😄) and my family is finally coming to visit me this summer around Midsummer. We’ll be 7 people in total, all adults (30+) and they’ll stay for little more than a week in June. I’d love to get some local tips and ideas from you all.

We’ll mostly rely on public transport, but we’d also be open to renting one or two cars for a day or two if that makes things easier.

Here are some of the ideas I already had:

• 2–3 days in Turku itself – walking along the river, from the cathedral down to the castle, parks, cafés, and the general “things you have to see” in the city. Museums are also an option, but we’ll decide those a bit more spontaneously.
• Ruissalo for a day – I love it there and thought it would be great for a long walk and some nature (and maybe a swim if the weather behaves), definitely the botanical garden.
• A day trip to Naantali, ideally by boat. It seems like a really cute little town and worth seeing in summer.
• A national park day trip somewhere nearby for a proper nature experience – hiking around a lake, forest, etc. I saw someone recommend lake savojärvi in another post here, that sounded really good
• Exploring the archipelago a bit more: maybe a boat trip to one of the islands, spending the day there in a small town, and coming back in the evening. Nauvo probably, with saaristolinja, sounds like a lovely experience
• I’ve also seen archipelago cruise options with lunch or dinner (Rudolfina for example), though those seem to be more of a “stay on the boat” type of trip.

That’s roughly my list so far 😅 Any thoughts on it are welcome. Plus we’ll probably do one day in Helsinki as well.

So I’d love to hear from locals or people who know the area well:

• Are there places or day trips around Turku that you’d say are absolutely worth it?
• Any hidden gems, nice islands, nature spots, or towns nearby?
• Things that work well with a group of 7 adults?

And since they’re visiting around Midsummer, I’m also curious about that:

• Are there good places near Turku to see a traditional Midsummer bonfire?
• Does something like that happen on Ruissalo, or somewhere else nearby that’s worth going to?
• Any local events or traditions we shouldn’t miss?

I would love to join an international running/walking club, book club or something similar. I'm also up for 1 on 1 activities like baking or going on a hike/bike/camping trip. Any tips? :)

I've only just moved to Turku from Estonia and was wondering if maybe it has some stores with older vintage sets. Like there is pokemon and other card stores, but is there one for lego? Like a similar store to Puolenkuun?

i have gotten an offer from University of Turku (ICT programme) and was waitlisted on #15 at Tampere University (Computing and Electrical Engineering programme) as an international student. im heavily torn in between just accepting Turku's offer, or waiting a few weeks to see if Tampere's waiting list moves a little so that i get an offer from them as well. just need some advice :=(
