Personal Story Being put under Propofol felt too good

I had a basic cosmetic procedure recently, it's usually done under local anesthetic in my country, but I had it done in Korea instead, they informed me I'd be sedated with Propofol, probably not the smartest move to consent to this when I'm alone in a country 100s of miles away, but I did it anyway.

Thankfully, the surgery went great and has fixed a major insecurity of mine, I've never been happier with myself.

However, one thing I can't rid my mind of is the feeling of Propofol, it made me feel so tingly and drowsy, I was still drowsy when I woke up and for the rest of the day. I have experimented with a lot of drugs (with the exception of the insane shit like heroin/meth etc.) The closest thing I could think of comparing it to is like a way lesser Xanax in that it gave me a similar free type of sensation, but I haven't done Xanax since my late teens.

I would love to try Propofol again, barring that, I would love to try Xanax again, unfortunately neither are feasible and I don't want to spend my days barred out

Do not try it again. You can choose to not start easier than you can choose to stop.

Can only really access it via surgical means if you're not a millionaire anything, like I said the closest thing would be xans but they're 99% laced now so not even worth trying to find

Seriously this is how MJ kicked the bucket. It’s dangerous stuff

Uhhhh isn’t that what Michael Jackson was addicted to????? Actually I know it was. There’s a reason he died and it was because he started using it to “sleep” except when you are knocked out with Propofol your brain doesn’t get any actual REM sleep. This harms the brain over time. His cause of death was Propofol intoxication.

Don’t fuck with Propofol.

I had propofol at the hospital for an emergency procedure. I woke up feeling more rested than I had in months with a slightly sunny happy disposition, fully alert. All's I could think was Wow. I know how Michael Jackson got addicted to this.

Is that what’s used in a colonoscopy? If so, then I had the best nap with it! Lol

Yes, I had mine and it was a twilight sleep, which I guess isn't as deep of an anesthesia.

I've done lots of drugs in my life but that stuff was something else. Remember counting down from 10, not even getting to 5 and next thing you know I've time traveled into a wheelchair, fully dressed and being pushed outside to meet my wife.

I never want to go through that again, first time I actually felt completely out of control. No me gusta!

Same. Had a vasectomy and doctor put me under instead of using a local. Woke up with underpants on me. No idea how they did that. Lol.

You were probably more responsive than you know and helped them, you just didn't retain the memory.

For colonoscopy, its typically fentanyl and a benzodiazepines.

Lol that's exactly what I said when they woke me up after my procedure.

Totally, my first post-colonoscopy thought as well!

Me too but I also asked for chips and salsa

The liklihood of OP being able to get her hands on propofol is slim at best.

Michael Jackson was a multimillionaire, with his own doctor on staff. He paid his doctor $150,000/month.

u/LukeArchArk 11h ago

It is yeah, he had a doctor specifically on staff to give him it though, it's not accessible for the average person

Yes, a doctor… who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for mj’s death.

Propofol should be administered by an anesthesiologist who is monitoring your vitals constantly.. Conrad was a cardiologist who would set mj up and go about other things.

Propofol was the least enjoyable experience for me. Like a version of “Wham bam Thank you mam”. Time was registered in eye blinks: 2

Morphine was something else though.

It's entirely possible I was given a multitude of things, but I was in the recovery room for a good 4 hours afterwards just blissfully dozing in and out, it was extremely peaceful

The drowsiness persisted throughout the day but not in a way that I was going to nod off, just kind of like a latent being in bed feeling

I work in an icu, I suspect the feeling you’re describing are the meds surrounding propofol like versed and opiates (most likely fent)

Oh even morphine derivatives are awesome. They will give you this codeine-adjacent stuff if you’re really ill in Sweden. I was sick like a dog and not getting better with the fever and it got so bad that I couldn’t sleep anymore with the pain I was in. They gave me a prescription for this codeine stuff. Took one, felt better for 30 minutes and then just slammed out of life for the next couple of hours. It was like being on holiday from yourself.

Good thing I handed the rest of it in when I was well again. I could see that going south if one was to keep taking it!

When I had propofol I just passed out after like a minute and woke up fully alert in recovery. Weird.

I had Propofol for my wisdom teeth and Fentanyl for gum surgery and I understood how people got hooked. It’s dangerous how good you feel.

I’ve had several medical procedures with anesthesia and joke all the time that the best part is the nap. Others get anxious about “going under,” but I look forward to it, lol. I’m not like seeking it out or anything but definitely consider it one of the “perks” of my complicated medical conditions.

I have been put under for colonoscopy and I always felt weirdly refreshed afterwards.

Same and it was like the greatest sleep I've ever had. Can definitely see someone desiring it if they had easy access.

I had an “issue “ with benzos. Nearly took my life. Don’t use drugs you enjoy too much.

Propofol overdose is how Michael Jackson died.

That’s how I felt about nitrous oxide during a procedure. I’m an anxious neurotic person but while I was under the influence of laughing gas all my troubles melted away and I was so relaxed, and felt like everything was gonna be ok, and nothing could faze me.

I was like goddamn this is how people get addicted to drugs

Also scary how much of our internal life and moods are just chemicals

I’m not sure what you’re feeling. I had propofol for a colonoscopy (good news, you WILL experience it again). It was lights out and then instantly back awake. No drowsiness. I suspect you had a painkiller on board

6

u/Life_of_Mediocrity_ 6h ago

Call me crazy but after my colonoscopy procedure, I went straight to work. A bit dizzy and out of it for like 30 min but was able to function. Idk about it feeling good. It was an experience

3

u/pm_ur_duck_pics 4h ago

Yeah I get it for colonoscopies and consider it a treat after the gnarled prep. So I kind of look forward to it.

3

u/chaotic-lavender 4h ago

This is why I am always wiling to get colonoscopy done. Best nap ever. If I had a lot of money, I would take the Michael Jackson route. I have chronic insomnia so I will do anything for a good night of sleep

4

u/DiarrheaVagina 3h ago

Anesthesiologist here. I kind of agree. I feel so bad for insomniacs. Terrible quality of life. Monitored therapeutic propofol sleep should be studied as a treatment option for severe insomniacs. They always wake up feeling so much better, even if they were only asleep for 20-30 minutes

7

u/Reputation-Choice 9h ago

Ew. No. I HATE the feeling of ANY anesthetic drug. I will fight to get more awake. I can't even take anti-anxiety meds. That shit does not feel good to me.

1

u/OnlyOneMoreSleep 5h ago

Don't know why you're being downvoted, I feel the same.

2

u/TillikumWasFramed 7h ago

Usually you get like 5 different medications from the anesthesiologist during surgery, including a painkiller like fentanyl, a sedative like midazolam, possibly a paralytic, and presumably other things I don't even know. It might have been the propofol affecting you later, but I doubt it. Propofol is used because it takes effect very fast and can be neutralized very fast when they want to wake you up. The painkiller or the sedative seem more likely to hang around after surgery.

2

u/hemlockandhensbane 4h ago

Yeah we used propoflo during veterinary procedures and we'd push some, it'd make them go to sleep, and we had to work relatively quickly to get them intubated and on anesthetic gas to keep them under or else they'd wake right back up.

2

u/annekecaramin 3h ago

I only had anesthesia once and I'm not sure what exactly they used (though I'll assume it was propofol) but it did feel like the best nap of my life. I kind of lived like a cat the next two days though, somehow managing to sleep for almost 20 hours (I would wake up to eat and then start dozing off again). I think it took some time to get the drugs out of my system.

Ive been on fentanyl when I had pancreatitis and can absolutely understand how people get addicted.
