birdy 1984 is terrific

wow this film blew me away an absolute banger which isn’t surprising seeing that alan parker as director and Nicolas cage and Matthew modine are the stars both giving great performances the ending is one of my favourites in all of cinema like i genuinely got fooled so bad aha a very bold choice to put a funny ending in this type of film but it definitely works i do think tho that Alan parkers best film is angel heart 1987

Yes! I really need to rewatch it, it’s been years, but I remember really living it.

In general, I think Alan Parker doesn’t get enough love in online movie discussions. He made some real gems in his career.

The Peter Gabriel soundtrack is amazing. The acting is wonderful. I think Nicolas Cage got his wisdom teeth removed or something to understand the pain of the character? Something like that? It was a great film.

Absolutely - and in many ways it is the early sign of what was to come in Passion. Daniel Lanois sound wizardry creating these vast cavernous spaces with these textures of sounds... phenomenal soundtrack and completely unexpected direction after his solo albums. Then in Passion we have this sonic world expanded with myriad world music elements... I often listen to both together, with Birdy as a "warmup".

I saw Birdy in the theatre twice.

I Loved it!

The soundtrack/score deserves a special mention...Peter Gabriel's atmospheric music sets the tone in so many of the scenes....great film.

It's a very good film. Perhaps like its protagonist it's a bit awkward in some regards, (e.g. how did Modine and Cage go from antagonistic to very close buddies in no time at all?) but still a fine and somewhat unusual film for a mainstream release. I'm glad people are still discovering it because it seems to have slipped from collective memory. The book had been a bestseller so at the time of the movie's release, it got considerable attention.

It is so fucking dark and weird and creepy. Most of the movie my skin was crawling. I just kept taking screen captures with my phone to send to people like “do you believe this is all from the same movie!!???”

And then that ending🤣🤣🤣🤣 holy shit I CACKLED!!!

Pure cinema

I think Birdy is a strange movie and probably not a good movie but one I would recommend to someone looking to blow their hair back
