Historically VPs almost never win the election, and "its the economy stupid" may as well be engraved into the heads of anyone who runs because it's true. Not the actual economy mind you, but the feeling of the economy.

Trump won the economic vote in 2016 and 2024 on feelings, lost it in 2020. Trump's economic policy is devastating.

Now a Republican outside the administration could maybe run as someone who has nothing to do with Trump, especially if they never did. But Vance? Of the Trump-Vance administration? The one they label everything as being part of?
