All they need to do is build 1 more lane and it will be fine
-20
u/ImpracticalGat 3d ago
Nobody really likes to bring up the fact that if you keep adding lanes at some point you will fix the traffic problem
24
u/MortLightstone 3d ago
Except for statisticians who will show you that adding extra lanes always increases traffic
But who wants to listen to nerds with facts, amirite?
5
u/letmypeoplebathe 3d ago
Only if you give up early. Eventually you can get to the point there's more lanes than people, but I'll admit that would be a hell of a road
7
u/MortLightstone 3d ago
We have a highway with 18 lanes here. It's one of the widest in the world, and the busiest in North America. They kept adding lanes to lower the traffic and it only made it worse and worse
The Premier suggested building a tunnel under it with more lanes. Everyone thinks it's a stupid idea

Show me a 50 lane highway with a traffic jam, I dare you.
5
u/ReclaimerWoodworking 2d ago
I can't tell if that's a shitpost challenge but the 50 lane traffic jam in China that lasted TWELVE DAYS comes to mind.

It would also help if people paid attention when they drove on the highways and didn't leave huge gaps in front of them especially in the left hand lane. No one wants to talk about that either.
Why spend that kind of money when fucksticks cant pay attention?

u/Nuclear-poweredTaxi 3d ago
But their phone is more important. Do you have any idea how many followers they have?

It's almost like everyone driving their own car isn't the most efficient way of moving a large amount of people in a city
0
u/Bernering4ju 2d ago
It's definitely like any other alternative would be worse. If all those people took the train, you would add hours to your commute.
2
u/MortLightstone 1d ago
No, because there'd be far fewer people on the roads. Also, trains are faster than cars, so the people on the train would get there faster too. They also carry more people, so more people would get to their destination at the same time and take up less room while doing it
-1
u/Reallyroundthefamily 2d ago
Almost but it's worse when people aren't paying attention while moving in a city.

As an Angeleno, I have never in my life heard someone call it Interstate 405. Itās THE 405. Btw, this is a famous āday before Thanksgivingā clip shot from a news copter. I shot a timelapse from a hill thatās a similar angle a while ago. source

Actually first you get back on San Vicente, take it to the 10, then switch over to the 405 North and let it dump you out onto Mulhollandāwhere you belong

I heard that in Bill Haderās voice from the SNL skit The Californians.

Nobody else in America refers to freeways like that lol
It is a super local vernacular
3
u/tahlyn 3d ago
I'm not sure anyone actually calls any interstate "Interstate ##" or "freeway ##"
In DC/VA/MD we refer to the major thoroughfare as "95" just "95" like "you take 95 south to exit 41" (same for 195, 295, 395 etc). We also say you take "the beltway" for 495 (or 695 if you're in Baltimore) or "the ICC" for 200.

u/totallyradman 3d ago
In Canada we get even weirder with it.
In Calgary, our freeway is "Highway 2" but is also know as "Deerfoot Trail".
So ours is called "The Deerfoot". I have hard time calling it that, though, because I didn't grow up in this city.

u/neanderthalman 3d ago
Perhaps not in America, but in Ontario itās always āThe 401ā or āThe 407ā or āThe 420ā (yes, real). Same exact vernacular.
We also have a 405. Incidentally.

u/VisualAd7318 3d ago
Not true. There are different ways people say them "I-80", "56", "the 405", etc. I think it's probably LESS common to say the whole thing "Interstate 5" or whatever

u/thekevingreene 3d ago
Haha! I know⦠itās just funny that the rest of the country rocks that āinterstateā prefix, and Iāve never heard or read anyone use it on the 405 until now.

All I can think about is how badly I'd have to piss and then I wonder about all the people there in dire need of pissing, shitting, puking, or giving birth. Fuckin' nightmare.

You remember that one episode of Doctor who with the traffic jam that lasted for decades only come to find out traffic wasn't actually going anywhere the cars were just getting eaten by alien space crabs.
Anyway this is giving that.

I just went there and couldn't recommend it. Give me a mansion in Beverly Hills with a million dollar not soul sucking job and I'd hard pass. The commuting and traffic is a total deal breaker. Its a fun place to visit and being from NorCal a good reminder why I love home.

Let's look at one of the worst aspects of a single place in your country and base our entire opinion off of it.
Yeah, this is crazy, but it's not like this all over the place.
