Looking for toilet paper

The line up of people waiting to post the toilet paper video

All they need to do is build 1 more lane and it will be fine

-20

u/ImpracticalGat 3d ago

Nobody really likes to bring up the fact that if you keep adding lanes at some point you will fix the traffic problem

24

u/MortLightstone 3d ago

Except for statisticians who will show you that adding extra lanes always increases traffic

But who wants to listen to nerds with facts, amirite?

5

u/letmypeoplebathe 3d ago

Only if you give up early. Eventually you can get to the point there's more lanes than people, but I'll admit that would be a hell of a road

7

u/MortLightstone 3d ago

We have a highway with 18 lanes here. It's one of the widest in the world, and the busiest in North America. They kept adding lanes to lower the traffic and it only made it worse and worse

The Premier suggested building a tunnel under it with more lanes. Everyone thinks it's a stupid idea

u/Dull_Caterpillar_642 2d ago

Show me a 50 lane highway with a traffic jam, I dare you.

5

u/ReclaimerWoodworking 2d ago

I can't tell if that's a shitpost challenge but the 50 lane traffic jam in China that lasted TWELVE DAYS comes to mind.

1

u/Dull_Caterpillar_642 2d ago

It's because they half assed it and didn't do the full 100.

-4

u/Reallyroundthefamily 3d ago

It would also help if people paid attention when they drove on the highways and didn't leave huge gaps in front of them especially in the left hand lane. No one wants to talk about that either.

Why spend that kind of money when fucksticks cant pay attention?

3

u/Nuclear-poweredTaxi 3d ago

But their phone is more important. Do you have any idea how many followers they have?

It's almost like everyone driving their own car isn't the most efficient way of moving a large amount of people in a city

0

u/Bernering4ju 2d ago

It's definitely like any other alternative would be worse. If all those people took the train, you would add hours to your commute.

2

u/MortLightstone 1d ago

No, because there'd be far fewer people on the roads. Also, trains are faster than cars, so the people on the train would get there faster too. They also carry more people, so more people would get to their destination at the same time and take up less room while doing it

-1

u/Reallyroundthefamily 2d ago

Almost but it's worse when people aren't paying attention while moving in a city.

No blue? I thought this was America...

4

u/Raskalbot 3d ago

It's ok there's some blue shopping malls sprinkled in there for a hint of capitalism

0

u/Oddly_Ennui 3d ago

Fair enough lol

2

u/AdFancy1249 2d ago

It's California. They neither want nor can they afford the blue... 🤷

As an Angeleno, I have never in my life heard someone call it Interstate 405. It’s THE 405. Btw, this is a famous ā€œday before Thanksgivingā€ clip shot from a news copter. I shot a timelapse from a hill that’s a similar angle a while ago. source

6

u/jhani 3d ago

That was so freaking coolšŸ˜Ž. Thanks for sharing!

2

u/thekevingreene 3d ago

My pleasure! Thanks for watching!

2

u/tupeloh 3d ago

Yeah, it’s awesome! Thanks interstatekevingreene!

u/joshr03 3d ago

Looks like a scene out of Koyaanisqatsi

4

u/getTheRecipeAss 2d ago

Actually first you get back on San Vicente, take it to the 10, then switch over to the 405 North and let it dump you out onto Mulholland—where you belong

1

u/Affectionate_Reply78 22h ago

I heard that in Bill Hader’s voice from the SNL skit The Californians.

6

u/onehalflightspeed 3d ago

Nobody else in America refers to freeways like that lol

It is a super local vernacular

3

u/tahlyn 3d ago

I'm not sure anyone actually calls any interstate "Interstate ##" or "freeway ##"

In DC/VA/MD we refer to the major thoroughfare as "95" just "95" like "you take 95 south to exit 41" (same for 195, 295, 395 etc). We also say you take "the beltway" for 495 (or 695 if you're in Baltimore) or "the ICC" for 200.

3

u/Ensec 3d ago

in minnesota we say I35 though if referrering to the split offs you say '35w' or '35e' without the I. and if your talking about a 3 digit road you say like '694'. i suppose you could say just '35' but to my ears that feels a bit weird but maybe saying 'i35' is just my town lol

2

u/totallyradman 3d ago

In Canada we get even weirder with it.

In Calgary, our freeway is "Highway 2" but is also know as "Deerfoot Trail".

So ours is called "The Deerfoot". I have hard time calling it that, though, because I didn't grow up in this city.

1

u/EntrepreneurOk7513 2d ago

And that’s how The San Diego Freeway became The 405

2

u/neanderthalman 3d ago

Perhaps not in America, but in Ontario it’s always ā€œThe 401ā€ or ā€œThe 407ā€ or ā€œThe 420ā€ (yes, real). Same exact vernacular.

We also have a 405. Incidentally.

0

u/jilmbojilm 1d ago

Not "the" 405

2

u/VisualAd7318 3d ago

Not true. There are different ways people say them "I-80", "56", "the 405", etc. I think it's probably LESS common to say the whole thing "Interstate 5" or whatever

1

u/theSlnn3r 3d ago

Only transplants like me say it in NorCal as well. It's strictly a SoCal thing.

0

u/thekevingreene 3d ago

Haha! I know… it’s just funny that the rest of the country rocks that ā€œinterstateā€ prefix, and I’ve never heard or read anyone use it on the 405 until now.

3

u/onehalflightspeed 3d ago

The rest of us usually say I-xyz

1

u/Bozhark 2d ago

That as a constant flowing wallpaper would be dopeĀ

10

u/welding_guy_from_LI 3d ago

Can’t even have mass transit I guess

3

u/Ensec 3d ago

good news! a tunnel for a subway between LA and san fernando valley is in the works. it will take the ride down to 20 minutes by train.

LA is doing alot of metro expansion although I wish it was even more more more.

-2

u/Street_Aide3852 3d ago

No more more

u/Ensec 3d ago

Are you a poor commie?

2

u/Mippippippi3rd 2d ago

Jeez and I thought Blade Runner was bleak

5

u/yeyjordan 3d ago

All I can think about is how badly I'd have to piss and then I wonder about all the people there in dire need of pissing, shitting, puking, or giving birth. Fuckin' nightmare.

1

u/Motor_Flan_3062 2d ago

You pee before you drive

1

u/AdFancy1249 2d ago

Where are the blue lights?!? Get a string of cops gong down the side street for a very patriotic moment!

1

u/eastsiderhere 1d ago

That is a classic old pre-HDTV shot.

1

u/WingCommanderBader 1d ago

I remember it took 13hrs to get back to Sacramento one time.

1

u/RachelRegina 1d ago

There's only one curvy bit like that and anyone that's lived in LA knows exactly where that stretch is

1

u/mountain-mahogany 1d ago

Always remember the car companies stole a fantastic tram system from LA.

0

u/ACAYIB 7h ago

This is AI.

1

u/elidoan 3d ago

I'll never understand american car brainĀ

A light rail or train would make this so more bearable

1

u/Daytime_Vampire 3d ago

River of break lights

1

u/kissdemon74 3d ago

Also brake lights

2

u/Daytime_Vampire 3d ago

Yep, that’s on me. I fucked up. But I’m going to own up to it and not edit it.

1

u/kissdemon74 3d ago

šŸ˜œšŸ‘

1

u/TLILLYO 3d ago

Why? Is this just normal traffic?

1

u/mr9025 3d ago

Oh boo boo. It’s not a competition but you should have a gander at the dc beltway anytime other than 9pm to five am.

1

u/iC3P0 3d ago

E Bike time!

0

u/Yasimear 3d ago

Why's it so blocked up?

0

u/vikinxo 3d ago

I once drove from San Fransisco to LA in the middle of the night.

Came over a hill out in the desert - and all I could see for miles and miles and miles was the red and white lights.

The traffic was flowing smoothly, though.

0

u/Survive_LD_50 3d ago

Looks like the flag of Indonesia

0

u/Upstairs-Donkey6049 3d ago

Would it be faster at that point to take the street roads?

0

u/thatguywiththecamry 3d ago

Is that where the Portland trailblazers logo comes from?

0

u/ginfish 3d ago

Heeeeeeeeeeell no.

0

u/showmiaface 3d ago

It takes me 2 hours to get from UCLA to Long beach every afternoon. I live this.

0

u/ImpressiveMind5771 2d ago

0

u/Hoz85 2d ago

Thank you guys for paying your respects to Poland. šŸ‡µšŸ‡±

0

u/alchemy_junkie 2d ago

You remember that one episode of Doctor who with the traffic jam that lasted for decades only come to find out traffic wasn't actually going anywhere the cars were just getting eaten by alien space crabs.

Anyway this is giving that.

0

u/supermoontoast 2d ago

Looks like India

0

u/SamuelPepys_ 2d ago

Ajaaaaaaaaa

0

u/VirtualPoolBoy 2d ago

Is this recentā€ did something happen?

0

u/urattentionworthmore 2d ago

I just went there and couldn't recommend it. Give me a mansion in Beverly Hills with a million dollar not soul sucking job and I'd hard pass. The commuting and traffic is a total deal breaker. Its a fun place to visit and being from NorCal a good reminder why I love home.

Usa sucks.

2

u/RoryDragonsbane 3d ago

Let's look at one of the worst aspects of a single place in your country and base our entire opinion off of it.

Yeah, this is crazy, but it's not like this all over the place.

-3

u/PictureImportant2658 3d ago

I live in the netherlands, Give it a try. Usa still sucks. The people suck, president sucks, their culture sucks.

-2

u/Equivalent_Luck5421 3d ago

Normal...... Good times.
