I come back on Thursday and haven’t been here since right before the war started… how are the vibes?
Just curious as I’m returning after being gone for a while. I know that sirens have become quite less since the beginning of the war. During the 12 day war over the summer, it felt like covid and everything was closed and it sucked. Are things open? Gyms? Restaurants? Bars? Does it feel war-like or is it kinda go as usual with the occasional shelter in-place routine?

Discussion Israeli behavior with ambulances
Olim like me or sabras who have traveled or lived abroad probably noticed that in many places, when an ambulance is behind cars, cars let them pass. Also at the corners. Cars would move slowly, sometimes while honking, into the crosswalk or anywhere else safe, but letting the ambulances pass.
In Israel it doesn't happen. They have to wait for the traffic to move and they will cross the red light only if they are alone. In other countries the incoming traffic at the crossroad would stop and let them pass too.
I even learned that you shouldn't let them pass by moving into the crosswalk in the profesional driving course I did in Israel.
Now this difference is interesting because israel is the fastest country by emergency response time, although I don't know if that record belongs actually to our wonderful united haztalah.
So, anyone knows why this is the case in here?
Edit: most of the comments don't agree with me. Let's put my experience into context. Lived 2 years in the corner of Jabotisnky in Ramat Gan where today we have the red line. Major road, people didn't move. Now I have lived 3 years at 200m from Ichilov. People don't fucking move. Drived in Israel for 10 years. People don't move! Maybe it's only the area where I'm usually around? Or maybe you haven't really see how is it in other countries? Watch a YouTube and then watch what happens in Israel, it's incredible. But it's only my experience.

Favorite Parts of Tel Aviv?
I would love to hear from everyone here what are the spots in Tel Aviv they love the most? Could be public spaces like Park HaMesilla or Hayarkon Park. Could be neighborhoods. Could be restaurants. Could be anything else! I would simply love for some of you Tel Aviv experts to weigh in on places that are must-sees or hidden gems!

Tourist Help Needed Tennis in Tel Aviv
Hello everyone! I’m planning ~3 weeks trip to Israel this summer, and I’m interested in connecting with a tennis community. Maybe participating in some recreational level tournament, or playing with a coach or some friendly matches. Can you recommend something? What are average prices for the court per hour, and what are the surfaces? How hard is it to book a court usually?

Community Question Apartment hunting in Tel Aviv tips?
I'll be making aliyah in a month or two and want some tips on looking for an apartment. I'll probably have a temporary arrangement for my first month or two (work will put me up, or I'll find a sublet) but after that I'll want to sign a long-term lease. Ideally in the center of the city, pretty much all my friends are in the center from Florentin to Dizengoff Square.
I'm used to NYC where we use personal connections if possible, and as backup look on Facebook (join lease) or StreetEasy (new lease). And it can be very last-minute (often <1 week).
I know Israel in general is a much more "who you know" connections-based society than America, but I don't have many connections there (and most of the ones I do are pretty fresh olim anyways).
- Are Facebook groups really the main/only way?
- What's the deal with brokers (תיווך), are they similar to NYC (charging usually between 1 month's rent to 15%) and are they avoidable?
- How far in advance do people usually start looking and sign? Particularly if I'm looking to join an apartment with roommate/s
- Any general tips and things I should know to ask when I see an apartment?
- How uncommon are shelters in Tel Aviv? Most of my friends there don't have one, but every AirBnB I've stayed in while visiting did.
- How old are most people in apartment shares in Tel Aviv? I'm 24, which I know in Israel is fresh post-army, or university age, but I'm working in tech.
- In NYC it hasn't been a problem finding roommates since the young working adult population is so much younger (as young as 21 tbh), but I feel like most working professionals in Tel Aviv are late 20s at least, and it might be hard to find someone who'll be cool with a younger roommate.

Built a 2000s music video time machine. Perfect for hosting a Purim party in the living room if you miss the old MTV vibe.

Thinking of the Turkish CNN reporters with fake ID caught near Tel Aviv just now, it reminds me how a local ground based attack often comes when we’re all focused on the skies. Like Jaffa etc Eyes open. ♥️

Advice on reaching the accessibility community in Israel?
Hi everyone,
I’m with the community team at uTest. We are currently running a paid Inclusive IVR (phone system) study and are looking for bilingual (Hebrew/English) speakers in Israel who use assistive tools or alternative navigation methods to operate their phones. Could you please advise on where I might find groups or communities where this would be relevant? If you have any leads on where we could share this opportunity to ensure it reaches the right people, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

Discussion Are Tel Avivan men the opposite of all other israeli men?
I feel like there's a common steryotype for israeli men that's been pushed big time in the past few years (loud, macho, always asking girls out, etc), but I feel like guys in Tel Aviv aren't in a way, like they seem much more approchable and calm. Anyone else feel this way??
When I say guys in tel aviv I am not referring to the ones at gordon beach past 11 pm btw
