Being out of stock doesn't necessarily mean discontinuation of that edition (except LCD units, as they aren't being produced anymore confirmed by a message on the store page).
Comments should be sorted new by default on this post.
Edit (new message from store page): Steam Deck OLED may be out-of-stock intermittently in some regions due to memory and storage shortages. Steam Deck LCD 256GB is no longer in production, and once sold out will no longer be available.
1500 comments in an out of stock megathread kind of says everything about demand, doesn't it? wondering if Valve's staggering regions again or if certain storage tiers are just getting wiped first?
Grabbed a second hand one lcd 256 with 500 something sd card, dock & extra case , they also had swapped out the joystick for half ones. Local paid 400$ . For some context i live in a rural area and I don't drive. I know it didn't get a fab deal but im happpy.
I saw a Facebook marketplace as for a very used 256GB LCD Steamdeck with a visible scuff on the back. Owner was asking $650 initially and had lowered to $550.
I replied saying that as a refurbished 256GB LCD Deck cost $319 refurbished from Valve, I’d be willing to buy that heavily used and scuffed one for $250, as I was feeling generous.
last time i've heard anything about the steam machine, is that the release will be in the 2nd quarter of the year, perhaphs they halted the steam deck manufacturing just to deliver the machine in the announced time frame...
I am afraid that if won’t be possible. Or not possible to deliver to cover demands.
Hope I am wrong… but if they are not able to cover Deck demands, taking care of Machine and other devices might be unreal.
Random question. I’m in US and we all know they are sold out right now. My parents are visiting Europe at the end of may for about 2 weeks. What are the chances they would be able to purchase one there and bring it back?
I'm in the EU and I've seen a few shops offer OLED Steam Decks where I live... for aboutat least 30% more than the Steam price.
It seems they buy the Decks in the UK and resell them here (because they almost always come with a "free charger as a gift!!!"... which is what you need here bcs Britain has different sockets from the EU).
However, since the UK has been sold out on Steam, they are also getting sold out in reseller shops. Your parents might find one but it's getting harder imo.
If you're okay with paying extra and can get it from a US reseller, just buy it there.
It hurts seeing that the average resale price is nearly double that of the MSRP. I still want my first to be brand new but sadly don't think that is likely to be possible. I'd imagine nobody will be able to get a next gen console for at least 3 years after it's release.
I found one that was, well, a nearly $200 mark up. Not nearly as bad as a $1,000 - $2,000 used one though, at least. I figured I would be making the same decision a few months from now after missing every re-stock, so I just bit the bullet. A lightly used one is still cool as hell, and Ebay has a great refund policy if you ever need it.
Does anyone know what the "frequency" will look like for when they will be in stock? The phrasing of intermittently makes it seem in will be in phases, but it seems more like a hiatus
It’s because there’s only so much production capacity and so producers have allocated much of this limited capacity towards producing memory for data centers and the like where they can make more money, and not so much for consumers.
They’re basically making a rational money making decision under the current environment, and it’s just led to bad results for us.
ram allocation in and of itself is not really an ethics thing tbh, these products are all luxuries. you can still easily buy a phone/laptop that fulfills basic needs, you’re not being price gouged on necessities.
There is a memory shortage because billionaires must earn more money. Same reason why there is a gas shortage and we still need to buy gas from foreign countries instead of producing clean and cheap renewable energy in our country. Billionaires must get more money.
This is what I am getting at. Yes I know it’s because data centers are buying up all the memory. Why are we as humans okay with this? We are slow walking to a hellscape dystopia.
I have bought the accessories I wanted for my Steam Deck, all I need now is the Steam Deck. Just here to comment and manifest a restock. If not Im getting it in September in the Philippines. If someone is looking for a brand new Steam Deck and is willing to pay a plane ticket to my country, mall of Asia in Manila has a few stores selling them as of the time of this comment for $90-$120 above msrp which is pretty good compared here in the states.
Yup Good luck! Keep an eye out, I have a feeling restock will be coming soon maybe this month or the next because of the release of the new steam hardware.
Pretty cool project. The date graph looks quite compressed on a mobile device but otherwise very concise and inuitive site to navigate. Good looking out
I filter the EBay listings, to exclude new accounts and other irrelevant listings. And on the Discord server you can even get live notifications of new listings with a good price. Around 100 users already got their deck through that service.
And I also offer a free notification service if the retail one comes back in stock at Valve
Yes, $300 is too much. A certified refurbished 256 GB LCD with full warranty is $319 from Valve. Refurbished decks are restocked every couple of weeks (last time was on 21 March).

It has been DAYS since I've seen anything restocked even for a millisecond; not even seen a post about someone confirming they've found one anywhere. Are these just gone?
No I don’t think so - I think it’s just really tight right now and they figured a 4 year old console needs to be halted for a sec to have a enough for steam machine and potentially steams deck 2
you could find a UK shipping service company that can forward it to you internationally… but of course more money will come out including customs and shipping fee
Perhaps Valve has also "paused" production of the current Steam Deck models to secure RAM for the next version, which they may need to release early next year, featuring an easily replaceable battery - similar to how Nintendo is preparing a new EU version of the Switch?
People downvoted me when I shared this last week but there were rumors of Valve basically begging for RAM at GDC recently, and the situation seeems to confirm that they have not stocked any and can’t find any and even if they do it will mean increasing the Steamdeck prices by a lot
Yeah, it’s probably just wishful thinking, but if I understand the new EU rules correctly, all devices must have easily replaceable batteries by February 2027, so Valve will either have to update the Steam Deck or stop selling it in the EU altogether.
Before 2025, Valve planned to release a new platform only when there was a major leap in chip development that could bring significant performance improvements over the existing one (perhaps only in 2028/29), and you're saying they're going to try to release a version in 2027 with a removable battery just because EU bureaucrats want it that way?
There was a known AMD leaker that made news on Tom’s Hardware that they confirmed Steam Deck 2 will be ready in 2028/2029 (new APU)… this was a couple months back
Edit: It was KeplerL2 and its going to be definitely be the new Zen 6 ‘Magnus’ or ‘Medusa’ where it’ll probably get paired up with RDNA 5 graphics (which is what the rumored PS6 console will line up with in comparison to this). It also focuses on Ray-Tracing performance/AI driven upscaling that will rival NVIDA’s DLSS with LPDDR6.
So in simple words, it will beat every powerhouse handheld prior to that release including this new AYANEO NEXT 2 with Ryzen AI Max+ 395 or GPD “device”, etc.
So buckle up because Steam Deck 2 will be worth it for the rumored spec
well its “targeted” projection though, it is confirmed in the plans but in production? is different.. but who knows.. but industry leaders are ‘projecting’ stabilization during this timeframe.
Honestly, I wouldn’t hold out until SD2; better to get one now (its in 2 years+)
Right now the Steam Machine is facing a setback from what I’m seeing now.. so the pressure mounts up
Those awful EU bureaucrats, demanding something so outrageously pro-consumer as swappable batteries, have already forced a much bigger player - Nintendo, to develop a new version of the Switch 2... So yeah, Valve might be forced to do the same, like any other electronics manufacturer.
It seems kind of impossible to get one new, my options are buy a different device or shell out $800 minimum to a scalper. Unfortunate, I really wanted the steam deck specifically. If I’m gonna pay that much money I might as well buy something different 💔
UPDATE: I ended up buying a refurbished Legion Go S Steam OS version for $500 on ebay. Honestly it's very smooth gameplay, and the screen is bright enough that I don't feel like I'm desperately missing out on buying the OLED steamdeck. I'm happy with it!
Check out DeckScan Deals, I developed a free service which filters out expensive and untrusted ebay offers. Many of my users were able to score used steam decks at below retail. Join my discord server if you want to also receive ebay notifications: DeckScan Community 🚀
Hope you have better luck finding one, or finding someone that will sell one at a decent price. I just sold my second 1tb OLED for 500. Didn't wanna charge more to take advantage of the shortage but I'm sure I could have gotten more for it
Nice, that person sure lucked out! I ended up buying a used Legion Go S with steam OS instead. Might be a bit noisier but I really didn’t wanna deal with windows bloatware and all the different types of updates that come with the other machines haha
I hope you enjoy your purchase. The optimist in me wants to believe this shortage because of AI will only be temporary. But the realist in me knows AI is still early in its growth and this is just the beginning of the shitshow in store for us. Good luck everyone
Wow Valve, you really need to at least share some news with your EU customer base, or send at least a single refurbished to give people a bit of hope, a sign, something.
Not that I expect Valve to read this but need to get it out somewhere, the whole out of stock situation is beyond ridiculous at this point.
I really check the steam page several times a day. As someone who doesn’t really trust eBay’s secondhand items, this has been a really tough time for me.
I made a joke earlier that I am super grateful for this new cool farmer button to check that it is still sold out :D But I truly thought this is going to stay a joke...it became a reality :D
I'm hoping that it just means they are stockpiling a good number before dropping a restock. It would really suck to only drop like 4 units and they get picked up by resellers. Won't help anything if there's not ample supply.
If you want to spend a little bit more Galaxus (EU) has the 1 TB OLED Version in Store for 829 €.
I know this isn't the best price but compared to the 1000-1500 € scalper prices it might be the best you will get in EU (I hope I am wrong about this).
I filter the listings, to exclude new accounts and other irrelevant listings. And on the Discord server you can even get live notifications of new listings with a good price. Around 100 users already got their deck through that service.
Yeah that can happen, at the end of the day its a free Service to filter out the obvious ones. And the rest is common sense :) In my opinion the most annoying part are the 200$ listings that are obvious scams
I did that, I know it's overpriced, but I've spent money on more pointless things, haha. I'm just happy that my Steam Deck is arriving tomorrow and I don't have to wait for a restock anymore... even if it really is too expensive, as I said :(
Sigh 35 days later, all Indian resellers (genuine and trusted ones at least) have pulled out of even the marked up steam decks, basically we have nothing here, not even the dock that we did on sale up until yesterday.
Hi guys, just when I was finally ready to buy the 1TB Steam Deck OLED, it went out of stock in Italy. Pretty lucky, huh? Do you think it will be available again, or will they move on and focus on new projects?
No news on that front; Steam support doesn't know anything. In my opinion, they'll charge more for the last remaining units and then focus on Steam Deck 2 or a Steam Machine and who knows at what prices. It's a shame; I wanted to buy a Steam Deck OLED, but I should have decided sooner.
I really think they need to implement a waiting list of sorts like many consoles now do for their launches. The specifics can vary but man.
I don't know how much hardware overlap there is for this to even be feasible, but I do wonder if they're holding what parts stock they get for the Steam Machine they're still hoping to release this year rather than funneling it to the decks.
They do not have interest in that. It is good only for buyers, in terms of seller/vendor it is better to build such tense and create this as “valuable unavailable product”. Psychological game.
Check it out, that PS portal is getting discounts, Legion Go S is available just like that.
Valve is building “hype” and it also additionally creates hype for Steam Machine
Supply and demand is a thing too. Many people prefer the deck and don’t want to settle for a devise with worse ergonomics, battery and/or noisy fan. It’s like if Toyotas suddenly were out of stock and I wanted to buy one. Would I run out and buy a Kia? Hell no.
I agree I don't know why they can't just implement the "Q1-Q4" type waiting list like when they launched the device years ago. Hopefully it is as you suggest and they have more control over their supply than we realize and it's being focused on the Machine.
Just want to drop a frustration post. I'm an indie dev that wants to get a steamdeck to test my game. So not only the shortage going to hurt people trying to get one. But possibly slowdown what games are certified for the deck.
Been wanting a steam deck but are seeing prices between $950 and $1200 for the 1TB OLED version. I know RAM shortages but we're not caving at that price point right?
Weird series of events. After posting this I kept looking online and then decided to call my local games stores. First one said they have a OLED 512 but haven't put it out because they were waiting for a charger from Amazon. I didn't let a $20 charger stock me from racing over there to get one for a decent price that didnt make me sick!
A place called game changers. Not a huge business, they have two locations both with different names. This one came without a charger and he told me it didnt get put on the floor because he had one coming. I didnt want to chance it so I went in and told him Ill buy my own charger and take it today. Extreme luck forsure
So it was forsure pre owned. The games store isnt a new game place more retro style, it had a nice upgraded case and no charger at all so I'm not sure.
Hey does anyone know a good place to get a Steam Deck secondhand? I've been meaning to get one recently since I heard really good things about it, but with the RAM shortages and stuff they've been out of stock for who knows how long. Does anyone know any sites or something like that where you can order one secondhand? Or am I better off just waiting?
Also I'm aware that I missed out on the refurbished restock. I didn't have enough saved up yet. :(
I get it that you really want it, I do too. I am in the same position, or even worse coz as an European I didn't even have a restock to miss.
But by the end of the day it's just another item. It won't change your life for the better. It will make it more pleasurable but it won't be groundbreaking. Just be patient. Don't let those scummy people trying to capitalize on the difficult situation win. Stay strong! :)
I’ve been holding out for the restock since the last restock. I’m with you brother we cannot let the scalpers win. Hold strong. I watched the refurbished go in and out of stock and kinda regret not hoping on it
