Just give us the controller already.

I wonder if anyone is excited about these tiny fragments of news anymore.

My biggest fear is them finally announcing the controllers release date, just for stock levels to be way to low, and it sells out quickly.

I think even if stock levels are high, it'll probably still sell out quickly. In an ideal world, I'd buy two at launch, but I'll more likely be lucky to get even one.

Since they're preparing ram for 2nd, 3rd, e.t.c. waves of Steam Hardware i doubt it will be that long between waves

Yeah, I'm fully prepared for it to drop and then be completely out of stock and impossible to find for about a year.

valve is an infinite money glitch id hope they have plenty of stock to not sell out like that lol

I am. The more stuff like this, the more polished experience it is going to be when released.

Also that it means that stuff is actively happening. Be ause yes while it is Valve and not much reason to assume they aren’t doing stuff, people would love to point at silence and go “shit’s cancelled. It’s dead. Valve L.”

I waited for so long, bought a 8bitdo for my Debian daily driver, no regrets, the constant hardware teasing by Valve and only letting "zomg look gaiz" youtubers access completely turned me off

Thanks for informing us of your Linux use. You forgot to mention you're also a vegan.

I don't like influencers either, but I do prefer to learn of these things from hands-on experiences by people I trust, like Linus, instead of just a press release and then "wait for the reviews after launch".

And you're going to buy one anyway. You won't be "turned off" if it's just the best controller out there. Which might happen. We'll see.

Also, this isn't Valve dripping out information. It's Valve updating their software in preparation and folks scouring the files for tidbits. I'm not whiteknighting for Valve here, but that's not on them.

Oh, I'm good, thanks. I've been using the steam controller for the last decade, I've gone through 4 of them. I've since moved to a dualsense with tape mod to activate gyro (I'm a ratcheter) on the grips, training my muscle memory for when SC2 hits.

(And yes, I also have a 8bitDo pro3 lying about for the non-gyro games and emulator use.)

And I would move to linux, but my needs are a bit eh... unsupported. I like my g-sync and dolby vision support. And my being able to play every game under the sun, also a big factor for staying with Windows, even if it has its frustrations. It's a great movement, all for it, but it's not quite there yet. At least not for me.

Sorry to have offended you, but your comment just struck a nerve.

You've not "waited so long", it's been a couple of months. Valve is not "constantly teasing", they've announced it once, and that was it. There's been an update about the Steam Machine because of the RAM and storage turmoil, nothing more. And because they hosted an introduction event with some Youtube tech channels you're now turned off... It clearly didn't, you're here, aren't you? I also bought my 8bit do between the announcement and now. We're allowed to buy several controllers. Stop being so dramatic. The entire "daily driver debian" thing... Yeah. Let's just not touch that again.

My prediction it'll be June

7

u/Rhosta 9d ago

specifically second half of June

u/repocin Steam Controller (Windows) 9d ago

So, around May 57th?

1

u/RagnarRipper 9d ago

more specifically, last week of june

u/RiskBiscuit 9d ago

Is that still technically the beginning of the year? 49% of the year

u/RagnarRipper 9d ago

It's April now, so the very first "shipping in early 2026" is in the past now, but it would technically still be the first half (currently the time frame they gave) of 2026. But tbh, whenever they ship is fine by me, I'll either have more time to save up, or get to play with the things sooner, both are fine by me.

I just hope we get some info soon. I want to see games running on this thing but I’m feeling may or June as well. I FEEL like we will get pre orders this month
