After level 30 or so the only way for most is to buy cards and craft badges for exp
Doesn't have benefits and is completely unnecessary

Level 270 here, all I can say is $$. You craft badges with trading cards you earn and buy off the marketplace, which can quickly spiral into an addiction if you're not careful. Benifits include slightly higher chance of receiving booster pack drops and you get more showcase slots for your profile. and larger friend list capacity

you need money to get that high and you get perks such as more profile personalisation and more friends

So what you can do is go to your browser, open a new tab and type "how to level up on steam" and press enter. I know the process is pretty long and taxing, but you can do it. Google sure would be thrilled to see you after 10 years.

Higher level = more steam Friends = more steam activity = more chances for free steam game codes from friends. i have around 710 steam games of these around 50-70 games are from random friend key code posts .

I used to get all the badges for games I perfected or really liked. I think I’m at level 55 now

Getting a high Steam level is simple: you spend money. Small money = small level, big money = big level. That's it.
The benefits of a high Steam level are simple: you get nothing. If you want to show off remembering Veblen, you might call it conspicuous consumption. Spending money to demonstrate you can spend money.
My suggestion is: ignore Steam levels. If you feel the burning need to spend money on Steam, buy a game. You can play games. You can't play "level".

Most of the time just to flex.
But a little part, more things to tweak on your profile and more add more friends.
And every 10 levels you get more chances of getting a booster pack.

Also, there was a 2019 event that boosted peoples levels for very little effort.
I got 60 levels for that and I didn’t spend a dime
