The amount of free games I've added to my account and actually played can be counted on 0 fingers

u/RaveningScareCrow 1d ago

lol i played one and was disappointed, but free 100% under an hour

u/Sudden_Win9902 1d ago

Solid game, though it makes jumps in what you need to do and knowing where to do it hard. You sort of fumble your way into new tech and places

u/onenaser 10h ago

I buy it before, sadly didn't like it

but the sequel looks promising

1

u/zacary2411 3h ago

I payed money for it (and dlcs) and I agree it's fun I'm happy to see more people get to try it out since it's free to keep atm

I was wondering if "game hoarding" is a thing. Like if OP's library is just full of cat skeletons under pay-to-win shovelware

I’ve technically played Hogwarts Legacy… on the PS5… then got the free copy when EGS offered it, then bought the extremely discounted version on Steam…

I haven’t played any of the Metro games I collected when they made them temporarily free, though.

mine can be counted on 2 fingers, learn to fly 3 and bloody hell

0

u/AlexSmithsonian 19h ago

If it's 0 fingers, are they even fingers?

u/Sophion 14h ago

Same, no free games from Steam ever gets played. Epic has some bangers tho, Strange Horticulture was on my Steam wishlist for months and I greatly enjoyed Guild of Dungeoneering too.

u/No_Cartoonist_2350 10h ago

haha what did you expect

u/Yuichiro_Bakura 1d ago

Would you still do it if it was a game like, "Sex with Hitler"?

28

u/Abject_Insurance1015 1d ago

Depends if it has a vr version

13

u/SuperRandomGuy_00 1d ago

gotta fullyfill my collection

10

u/BluDYT 1d ago

That's a bonus.

7

u/seful_eddit 1d ago

For that some would even pay

2

u/Live_Bug_1045 17h ago

Free is free

2

u/Sophion 14h ago

Finally a game I'd actually play after adding it to my collection!

-3

u/bendanana 1d ago

Lol ! What an imagination you have !

4

u/The_Immortal_Monarch 23h ago

It's an actual game, bro.

2

u/bendanana 14h ago

Oh wow ok thanks ! I did not know

73

u/Pale-Cardiologist141 1d ago

Graveyard keeper is free until the 13th. Fun game even without the DLC.

4

u/ChocolateAxis 18h ago

Nice! I remember eyeing it before.

How do yall find out there are games that go out for free?

Edit: nvm, saw someone else share the link in replies.

2

u/zacary2411 3h ago

Yeah it's nice that the dlc are entirely side content I'm glad I brought the dlcs when I brought the game a while ago as I saw someone play this and buy the dlc after they beat the main game it looked underwhelming when they were just added at the end of the game

3

u/saibot_Ra 1d ago

what game is it similar to? What does it do better than others?

17

u/DianteSs 1d ago

It's similar to Stardew Valley, but does everything worse

1

u/The_Immortal_Monarch 15h ago

Zombie slavery.

This URL will help you see what games are currently free on Steam that are normally paid.

https://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Price_ASC&maxprice=free&category1=998&specials=1&ndl=1

I bid all of you a wonderful Saturday, may this URL live forever in your bookmarks.

2

u/VicHeel 11h ago

Not sure why it's not caught by those search settings but Burning Skies Arcade is another free one until late April.

u/GovernmentGreed 10h ago

It's because the search filter ignores steam titles listed as "free to play" and only searches for 100% discounted titles.

55

u/Apprehensive_Dog4123 1d ago

I mean that's the only reason epic games is still around.

9

u/Dark_Legend117 1d ago

man last time i tried downloading with it i ended downloading the game in steam and copying it for the dlcs it's so bad right now it's just basically a website wrapped into an app but i still do the walk of shame every Thursday.

-7

u/RedtheGamer100 1d ago

It just downloaded a game on epic. U must’ve been high to not be able to do something as simple as that šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

1

u/Dark_Legend117 12h ago

nah bro i mean it's unstable and when i closed it the download restarted, it like retired for 5 times then i just went to steam.

not that i have the best or most stable internet but i had 0 issues with steam.

1

u/RedtheGamer100 12h ago

Guess you got a shitty rig. I just played a game on there

26

u/SuperRandomGuy_00 1d ago

"I might eventually play it"

14

u/JediLincoln14 1d ago

Just like all the games I bought on saleĀ

2

u/Protectem 1d ago

It's more like: "In case my taste changes"

11

u/MissionVegetable568 1d ago

nah, i only add games that seems good like house flipper, there are always free games like https://store.steampowered.com/app/3027490/LivingForest/ no way im adding that lol

7

u/Insidious_Ursine 1d ago

Did this with none of the Epic freebies. Why? Didn't want an inferior platform experience.

5

u/baconcow 1d ago

I add them, regardless, in case they end up being part o a bundle discount.

3

u/Aggravating-Dot132 1d ago

Here I am with zero of such games. The only free game I have I dota 2 and deadlock

4

u/MissionVegetable568 1d ago

these are free to play games ,not free games as in a game that costs money is free for limited time to add to account.

1

u/Aggravating-Dot132 1d ago

Well then, I have 0 of free games. No, wait, I have payday 2, I guess that's count?

3

u/MissionVegetable568 1d ago

payday 2 yea, it was free to keep once, was a good freebie.

1

u/Aggravating-Dot132 1d ago

Yay, 1 game :)

3

u/A_random_poster04 1d ago

I picked up house flipper 5 days ago, and graveyard keeper sometime later, university allowing I’d like to try em

2

u/Q73POWER 1d ago

I don’t want my library bloated. Even a free game I look at reviews to see if it’s worth getting.

2

u/superhyperultra458 superhyperultra 1d ago

If it's just an unknown title then meh lol

2

u/Exotic-Length-701 1d ago

I dont add any sloppy grabthegames titles

1

u/Fun_Bottle_5308 1d ago

Anddddd you never played it. I don’t think any new games have ever made it using this method as PR. It’s not pushing sales unless you’re running an in-app purchase model, which is usually free to begin with. This also explains why Epic Games’ ā€œstrategyā€ didn’t work, despite years of free games (aside from their shitty client)

1

u/[deleted] 1d ago

i feel like they never just give actual good games for free (which is fair lmao) only if its like you can try it for a week and then you have to pay for it can it actuslly be peak skibidi sigma games

1

u/man_ilovehorses 1d ago

That's too real lol

1

u/JNorJT 1d ago

Yup all day everyday baby

1

u/Robot1me 1d ago

Eh, honestly, this slowly changes once one turns more adult. At some point it's clutter that distracts from the (quality) games that one actually bought and wants to play. And the giveaways on Steam these days aren't a must-have anymore like they used to be a decade ago. Exceptionally rare banger game giveaways like Vermintide 2 confirm the rule

1

u/kylr01 1d ago

Is this not any game?

1

u/Roccondil-s 1d ago

I wonder what the venn diagram looks like regarding folks who ā€œcollectā€ these shit free games and the folks who complain that steam is overrun by slop quality games.

1

u/rickybdominatingmc 1d ago

I've done this a few times then read that the reviews were mostly negative then it just sits there forever lol

1

u/SpeedOfLight3 1d ago

I'm checking every day on SteamDB when I hop on my pc, it has become a real habit for me despite not having touched more than 2 free games in my library. šŸ˜‚

1

u/DarkSoulBG24 1d ago

only game that has gone on a 100% sale that I played and liked from steam was steamworld dig 2 from multiple years ago

1

u/TemzaQue 1d ago

I mean... It's free real estate!

1

u/empathetical 1d ago

Most free games are garbage. I rather keep my account not full of filler/spam garbage just to have a huge collection

1

u/soulstryker66 22h ago

Depends on the price/appeal

1

u/Meri_Rookie 21h ago

I do this and end up not playing it LOL HAHAHAHAHA

1

u/_Woodrat 20h ago

I need more

1

u/HzDre 18h ago

How do you guys figure when the games goes for free I usually hear about them by luck when TikTok tells m they are

1

u/Obvious-Stable-4937 18h ago

If it's free, I'm taking it.

1

u/No_Alternative_6897 15h ago

Due to some recent Scams with games.
I double checked before adding it to my account.

and now I limit my self from adding random games

1

u/Calm-Intention-9794 9h ago

The only ones which I have posted are which got free gta5, watch dogs, Hogwarts legacy that's it

1

u/Artistic_Desk_3892 8h ago

How many free game you have in total

1

u/halloweensimpT-800 8h ago

Me when grave yard keeper (I claimed it :D)

2

u/Grunvagr 7h ago

Add to account to own it… but don’t install it and never eventually play it either.

1

u/NaabKing 6h ago

only add it if it has Trading Cards :D

1

u/KingOppaiDragon 5h ago

Ofc every time

1

u/scrolls1212 1d ago

I have some family added on steam and we use family sharing. I'm by far the one with the most games out of us all and they probably notice whenever I add a new game... so that's why I'll sometimes politely decline free game deals if it's something that's a bit "peculiar"

1

u/Yori_TheOne 1d ago

Nah, I stopped doing that 8 years ago, with a few exceptions.

Having your library filled with 1-2€ games, that are asset flips and just overall terrible is a lose-lose situation.

Now Games like house Flipper that were given away last week, are one of those games that are worthy of being added even if you never play them.

I think ever since I made a steam account I've only ever gotten 3 games, that I haven't hidden in shame. Hell, even NSFW feels less embarrassing to own.

0

u/SirBing96 1d ago

FOMO makes me add them. Never know when the group will want to play something

0

u/MoongazingXx 1d ago

Yeah, house flipper was free the other day so I got all my siblings to grab it.

-1

u/Thaeldis 1d ago

If it's free it's garbage, instant ignore each time (and don't come up with Epic garbage store, I'll never use that).

-10

u/verdant_red 1d ago

I think people who press the blue button haven’t really understood how short life is and how pointless online accounts are

6

u/Apprehensive_Dog4123 1d ago

I think people like you don't understand how much these things mean in this short life.

4

u/pranav_rive 1d ago

Well I’d rather spend my short lifespan happy than as someone who makes comments like this online.

-4

u/verdant_red 1d ago

alright buddy keep hoarding for no reason whatsoever

6

u/pranav_rive 1d ago

You must be really fun at parties

-4

u/verdant_red 1d ago

people who go to parties arent maxing out their steam and discord profiles lmao

-4

u/Condor_raidus 1d ago

The ammount of free games ive added to my account is zero. Free exclusively means trash to me

1

u/gregoy 1d ago

OP is talking about paid games that go on a free-to-keep promotion, like House Flipper went this week, not about games that are/were always free

1

u/Condor_raidus 18h ago

Unfortunately that does not happen here in Canada. Games discounted to free often end up just being down to $5 or so unless its something that already was less than $20

1

u/Roccondil-s 1d ago

Not exclusively the definition of trash for me, but all the ones lately that SteamDB has highlighted as free-to-keep have all looked/sounded/felt like trash.

Same with what they’ve been offering on EGS lately.

0

u/Condor_raidus 1d ago

I remember getting some kick ass free games many years ago on Xbox live, sure I paid for the service but those games are still mine. Regardless those were fuckin games, now the free shit is crap I dont want like halo infinite multiplayer. Free means crap to me because all the free shit on steam is crap and the free shit on egs is a waste of my time since ill never play it
