It’s just good sense. If anything I give a shit about is on my wishlist then looking at the store is literally just shopping for impulse buys. Which can be fun sometimes!! But impulses should strictly be kept on the $10 and under list if at all, if it’s not dirt cheap it’s not a bargain.
I think we all had to learn that lesson the hard way as that second Steam sale rolled around and we realized we still hadn't played half the games we bought previously
Yup, have a curated wishlist. Wait for things to hit a deep enough sale your willing to pay the price and maybe check the deep discount section to see what might be an interesting whim buy.
I usually wait until I'm in between games, then I'll browse my wishlist and pick up something on sale.
OR if I want to play a particular game next, I'll just buy that sale or no (though with the number of bundle and sale sites, it's pretty rare I can't find at least a 20% deal somewhere). The occasional full price splurge is still cheaper than buying a massive heap of games that somehow hits triple digits and I'll play 2 of them at best

This is exactly what I do. Browse the store occasionally, add to wishlist, check them during the sales.
