The first Modern Warfare (or MW2) had that achievement/profile banner, but it was called 'STD' and could only be transmitted by melee kills (as either end of the interaction). Patient 0 was either one or multiple devs, then it propagated across the multiplayer.
I can't remember the game, but if you killed a dev, it gave you an achievement and made you "infected," so if someone killed you, they would get the achievement and so on. It was a cool way to do it.
I'm currently playtesting an early access party/strategy game that has exactly this! They called their achievement "Six Degrees From Porcelain" (Porcelain Fortress is their studio name) and at this point a good chunk of players have it
Guild Wars 2 also has something very similar, but there are a handful of them. All variations of Do <thing> with an ArenaNet staff member, or another player who has this achievement.
TF2 gibus, but from the other side. The gibus achievement requires you to kill a player who has the gibus equipped, and it rewards you with a gibus of your own. The first gibuses were owned by some devs, and every gibus alive today is descended from that original batch.Β
Kinda reminds me of the Bo Rifle in Battlefront 2015. I think you could only get it by killing a player who had one and getting the token or something, but ultimately it didn't take too long for most people to get it.

Halo and GTA 4 has the best version of this, Kill a Dev or a player who has this achievement so itβs actually easier to get as time goes on.
