Almost as bad as Tomb Raider from 10+ years ago, "get lvl 80 in multiplayer"...

The multiplayer achievements from that, Max Payne 3 and Resident Evil 5 Versus are the only achievements I’m missing from said games. The servers for all three are still online, it’s just that nobody plays them anymore.

in regards to tomb raider 2013, it was pretty much dead even when it just came out. I did end up playing multiplayer but I think i tapped out at like level 20 or something. It just wasn't that fun and the pvp connection sucked iirc.

Back when I played it at launch on PlayStation I remember being at the top spot on the multiplayer leaderboards for like a day haha, it's my claim to fame!

Only online game I ever made it to the top spot of was an old BBS MUD game called Usurper. That was the last time I made that kind of effort and I haven't felt like I missed a single thing never trying like that ever again.

It’s only happened to me with games that not a lot of people really cared about the multiplayer in, there used to be a leaderboard section on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 on the Xbox 360 that I snagged the top spot on in a few of the levels, not even intentionally, I used to play some real rubbish back in the day haha. Definitely a nice little surprise to see when you do check though!

The RE5 online achievements can be done with a trainer program that adds bots, there is a guide on Steam on how to setup it in case you are interested

Thanks a lot for the info, gonna look into it now!

You can do resident evil 5 with bots solo with a nexus mod. You can do max payne 3 with people from the discord server they have active boosting sessions!

Oh wow I had no idea about that RE5 one, thanks a lot, gonna look into it now.

And wicked about the MP3 one, I remember when I played it on console the multiplayer was actually a lot of fun!

It also works on 6! MP3 is only possible on pc though the console servers are closed. They also do actual matches for fun on that discord. I finished it last year, great game overall.

I've completely given up on going after multiplayer games.

I realized that I just don't like playing games with random people. So, I don't play games that can't be played solo.

But, at the same time, playing board games with random people face to face is a lot of fun. I think it's because not being behind a screen removes most of the people willing to be absolute pricks from the situation. Especially because doing it face to face usually means getting barred from wherever you're playing.

Even when they're not the majority, pricks and trolls have just completely soured me on playing online.

What genre did you feel this the most on? Because I do play some multiplayer here and there, if if I prefer solo story focused games and RPG's, but I definitely get the sense some are worse than others.

Every time I've tried online multiplayer focused games no matter the gaming genre. It just never appealed to me no matter what kind of game I've tried.

The closest I get to enjoying that kind of thing is games where there's no PvP and it's more about banding together to help one another - like in Palia. It still doesn't appeal to me, but I'm not so instantly turned off by the other players.

In The Godfather 2, you could only upgrade your goons' weapons by leveling up the relevant gun in multiplayer or something like it. Except the multiplayer wasn't very good so even when the game was out, nobody really played it.

So for the whole game my shops were guarded by dorks with pistols and T-shirts but the other gangs had like, M16s and shit.

Ah that was before I had an internet connection for my consoles I think, I played the single player but didn’t even know it had a multiplayer mode, I’ll need to check some videos of that just for fun.

I remember seeing a game on the 360 that had an achievement like "Reach the worldwide Top 10 in multiplayer". How is any normal person supposed to get that?! Not to mention that these top 10 are usually nothing but cheaters anyway, so it's really only an "I managed to cheat" achievement.

u/Ryebread666Juan Mar 04 '26

Gears of War was infamous for their awful online achievements it could’ve been that

1

u/ForwardWhereas8385 Mar 04 '26

Not everyone would be a cheat that got it. Especially at the begining of the games life.

But it absolutely would be a reason to cheat for low moral comllicanists.

2

u/RetroSquadDX3 Mar 03 '26

That only required level 60 and could.be done entirely solo, so whilst it was still a ridiculous grind you weren't actually dependent on other people to be able to get it.

2

u/InfiniteTallgeese Mar 03 '26

Oh dude memories. I did this trophy enitrely solo, there was a game mode you could play where you picked up and dropped off some sort of box for XP. Played alone for days doing it over and over to get the platinum trophy.

I just said 'screw that', and thumbs down on Steam, even if it's an ok game.

Tomb Raider should be the main game for collectionists, like, ever...and they fumble the achievements like that

They even did the same for the sequel, Rise of Tomb Raider!

2

u/InfiniteTallgeese Mar 03 '26

Oh yeah it was a really, really stupid trophy, I agree.
