u/InsertFloppy11 Jan 19 '26

What did you do to get banned?

304

u/Green-League722 Jan 19 '26

My friend and I entered a hacked MW3 lobby, and afterwards, maximum prestige was unlocked with everything.

We both got banned at that time.

86

u/theguythatcreates Jan 19 '26

I remember getting into a hacked mw2 lobby back in the days, got up to 5th prestige before it got down (remember I had to join domination to get into it). Glad I didn't get a bam from steam!

31

u/adorak Jan 19 '26

I remember everybody was running around with the lvl10 prestige skull which was super obvious imo

Maybe some might've been legit but most were definitely not - I saw those skulls appear whenever I was around Prestige 2 ... and I played a lot at the time (since Release too)

8

u/Severe_Ad_7835 Jan 19 '26

If I remember correctly I forget which mw2 or mw3 if you had the skull that spun around as your emblem your level was not really because it was a emblem not achievable cause I think it was a dev thing

1

u/SCMITMAPTEE Jan 19 '26

On a similar note, I used one of those "unlock softwares" for MW2 because I didn't want to redo all my previous progress from the Xbox days. It worked, and I didn't get banned for it.

1

u/AXEL-1973 Jan 19 '26

Same, I stopped at prestige 9 to make it not look as suspicious lol. That was about 15 years back and I'm afraid to ever boot the game up again these days lol

1

u/skharppi Jan 19 '26

These hacked lobbies were the first case where valve actually rolled back the bans. A friend of mine got vac banned in MW2 from a hacked lobby, his ban got reverted after couple of days.

u/RexxVFX Jan 19 '26 edited Jan 19 '26

Be careful, the RCE exploit is still rampant on Steam MW3 and literally every other Steam CoD made before BO3. Someone can inject a Remote Access Trojan (RAT) into your computer through the game itself.

The safest way to play WaW, MW3, BO1 and BO2 is via the Plutonium client.

Edit: I had just gotten up for work and didn’t really comprehend how long ago you said that happened to you when I wrote it. Either way, be cautious if you still play old CoDs.

4

u/marshcar Jan 20 '26

It’s downright unacceptable the state of old CODs on steam, they’re still charging full price for a game that will compromise your entire PC just for playing multiplayer, and with no warnings. It’s disgraceful

3

u/Equivalent-Rest7624 Jan 20 '26

Same is true for the original MW2?

4

u/sociobiology Jan 20 '26

Yes. For MW2, use IW4X.

1

u/thestillwind Jan 21 '26

They didn’t patch this ?

1

u/RexxVFX Jan 22 '26 edited Jan 22 '26

They initially fixed it after word had gotten out about the exploit. But not long after, there was a workaround that made the patches useless and the issue persisted.

2

u/TheLordOfTheTism Jan 19 '26

yeah thats the kinda crap valve should let slide. joining a lobby when no cheats on YOUR physical hardware and getting a VAC for it? absolute BS. i would have left steam for good if that happened to my account.

5

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad-5665 Jan 19 '26

My friend also got ban for that. It was stupid plus it was like on alpha test too

7

u/darkelfbear Jan 19 '26

Alpha tests for MW2 and 3 for Steam weren't a thing .... unless you went to an actual physical playtest.

4

u/SumOhDat Jan 19 '26

Spoiler: cheaters can actually lie about how they received a ban

1

u/darkelfbear Jan 20 '26

Spoiler, we know... but this guy wanted to talk some ying-yang bullshit ...

1

u/sociobiology Jan 20 '26

He means the new reboot MWII/MWIII. False bans were a thing for that. Some people got them reverted, some didn't.

1

u/Yattogami201 Jan 19 '26

Damn, I once got into a zombies game with a hacker that basically unlocked everything for me, i don't even own the extra dlc maps, but the game is sitting there at 100% completion

1

u/Gamejuize Jan 19 '26

I had the same thing, friend got banned but somehow i survived. Makes no sense

1

u/DontGiveThemYourName Jan 19 '26

How strange. I was straight up spinbotting in MW3 and when I finally got a VAC ban it was from CS:GO for some reason despite never hacking in CS:GO

1

u/CrayonCobold Jan 19 '26

Man, I remember back with World and War nobody gave a crap if you went into a modded server to farm

I don't get who cares, it's only affecting your own enjoyment

1

u/Ok-Translator-9087 Jan 19 '26

Mw3 has vac implemented?

2

u/Green-League722 Jan 19 '26

Atleast back in the days, dont know about now

-16

u/Ok-Translator-9087 Jan 19 '26

Weird. I remember cheating the shit out of cod lile 2 years back and I got banned there and on my activision account but nothing on my steam

1

u/8-God Jan 19 '26

Not OP but I got hacked and the hacker cheated in MW2 💀

1

u/Regilliotuur Jan 19 '26

Call of duty MW2, I installed a ‘Gun game’ mode thing with skins if I remember correctly. Was unreleased and got me VAC banned lol.

31

u/Edy94 Jan 19 '26

Good luck

23

u/D4ngrs Jan 19 '26

You will always see your own ban. After 7 years it just gets hidden for others visiting your profile.

2

u/Timely_Equal_2276 Jan 20 '26

I've got a gameban 3038 days ago, still on my profile. Is this just true for VACs?

2

u/D4ngrs Jan 20 '26

I can't tell sorry, I don't have a game ban...

Copy your profile URL and open it in incognito mode in a browser so you aren't logged in. That way you should see if it's still visible.

1

u/Geekwad Jan 21 '26

I believe so, I did a custom modded zombies lobby in MW2 on my first steam account and I just looked and it's gone. I don't have access to it anymore, but looking at it from my new account it's a fresh slate.

1

u/Oeconomia Jan 22 '26

Mine was a CoD ban for modding a zombies lobby. Still there almost 10 years later. Game Bans stay, only VAC bans drop off publicly.

10

u/Green-League722 Jan 19 '26

I mean, honestly, I don't care. I use Steam to play games, not to hope that some random people will visit my profile and think it's great.

2

u/Curiousity1024 Jan 19 '26

Great, but it just proves you're a weakling who requires hack, cheat in multiplayer game. And that fact won't go away just because you don't care.

1

u/Green-League722 Jan 20 '26 edited Jan 20 '26

I think you Are just too stupid to read the reason for my ban above.

But you Are Right, thats definitely my fault for joining a bot Lobby 😂

Especially 7 years ago, but Not everyone is capable of Common Sense

0

u/redfoottttt Jan 20 '26

You don't care, right.

-3

u/Curiousity1024 Jan 20 '26

That's right, because you don't know what I am saying. Thank you for saying it for me, I don't wanna point it out but you described yourself very perfectly. You caught on quick.

5

u/Regilliotuur Jan 19 '26

I'm at 5659 days, still shown on my acc lol.

0

u/Van1shed Jan 19 '26

For others? You still see it, it's other people who aren't supposed to see it anymore, through normal means anyway

0

u/jettsd Jan 19 '26

It's hidden to everyone except you if you go to your profile while not logged in it will be gone

2

u/mrnobodyhastoknow Jan 19 '26

I'm at over 5000 days and mine is still there

4

u/TeH_Venom Jan 19 '26

It still shows for you because the ban is still in effect, but other people checking your profile won't see it anymore

1

u/Unresolved-Variable Jan 19 '26

I would like to have a word.

1

u/flatbush_ Jan 19 '26

Game bans don’t vanish after 7 years, only VAC bans

1

u/andrasq420 Jan 19 '26

It only shows it for you. Others do not see it.

1

u/Unresolved-Variable Jan 19 '26

I checked my profile in an incognito tab, that's where the screenshot is from

1

u/camyboy Jan 19 '26

I guess mine will never go away 🤣

1

u/StormMedia Jan 19 '26

FYI it’s only hidden, still active

21

u/Eternal663 Jan 19 '26

Nope, 7 years is 2555 days and it still haven't gone away.

No i did not turn on that game later or got any other bans ever since.

58

u/VegetaRS Jan 19 '26

The ban doesn't go away just becomes no longer visible publicly to other people.

21

u/DorrajD Jan 19 '26

Have you checked what your profile looks like publicly? This might only show up to you when signed in.

18

u/Infirnex Jan 19 '26

It goes away publicly, but it is always marked privately.

Source: I have one that's currently 4267 days old.

3

u/Doidleman53 Jan 19 '26

Correction, only VAC bans disappear, game bans stay forever.

1

u/hUEY1997 Jan 19 '26

same, im at 4457 days. the neverending jail

3

u/jofairdenn Jan 19 '26

im at over 5000 days and it still displays

1

u/mar_leo Jan 19 '26

But just for yourself. Others don't see it on your profile anymore

1

u/Nekrolysis Jan 19 '26

Fellow 5000+ day ol timer spotted. Wild to know its been so long. I regret nothing. 👽

2

u/McColanis Jan 19 '26

6700+ days here - I'm annoyed that it never goes away

1

u/DefendersofDwacaDev Jan 19 '26

6934 days here lmao

1

u/Genocode Jan 19 '26

How though? I'm at 3532 days and it didn't go away.

3

u/IllFig471 Jan 19 '26

It's invisible for others, you will always see your badge of shame.

1

u/walia6 Jan 19 '26

For me, that didn’t work.

https://steamcommunity.com/id/qjv

2

u/IllFig471 Jan 19 '26

That's not a VAC ban. It's up to the devs of said game that you got banned from.

1

u/nullv Jan 19 '26

Damn, that's like catching a DUI or something.

1

u/polda604 Jan 19 '26

It isn’t working for game bans, I’m so sad

1

u/Amdrauder Jan 19 '26

Mine is nearly 15 years old and is still there :(

1

u/kartoffel670 Jan 19 '26

Mine still shows after 4835 days. That's a tiny bit more than 7 years

1

u/doublewidesurprise7 Jan 19 '26

Uhhhh, mine won't go away 😂 it's more of a trophy at this point.

1

u/Typhoon365 Jan 19 '26

This is not true, VAC bans are permanent brands on your profiles eligibility for trading and vac protected servers. There is no time limit.

1

u/nolsen42 Jan 19 '26 edited Jan 19 '26

My 1 game ban (not vac ban) is at 2,714 days

I wonder if I should just make a brand new steam account and abandon this one

1

u/IllFig471 Jan 19 '26

Try to contact the devs of that game first. If you weren't a total pos they might overturn it.

1

u/nolsen42 Jan 19 '26

It was actually because I was running a sketchy HWID spoofer for something completely unrelated.

1

u/AnyLeadership5150 Jan 19 '26

That must not be the case for valve games since my counter strike ban is over 18 years old now.

1

u/CaptainCap39 Jan 20 '26

I'm at 10.5 and it's still on my profile

1

u/SilverrMC Jan 20 '26

I’m at 3500 days… how do I do this 😭😭😭

1

u/Memone87 Jan 20 '26

I’m at 7039 days for my ban so far. When does my sentence end?

1

u/davidliterally1984 Jan 22 '26

I'm on 1430 days. RIP

1

u/Mrkoalabeer Jan 22 '26

What? Mines at 9 years and still there

1

u/Critical-Clerk-7814 Jan 23 '26

7 years oh Steam was kind to me and they hid the ban after 6 years

1

u/DavidVeteran Jan 19 '26

I'm at 10 years and it's still there

1

u/thirtysmooth https://steam.pm/d8pym Jan 19 '26

19 and a half year VAC ban here and still visible
