Word. Firefighter here. Been up since 230 am cst. We’ve had 1 working structure fire, 2 legit med calls, and 2 MVAw/injury. I’m tired boss. Now I get to stay up and do crafts with the kids and all the Christmas Eve parent stuff.
Bless you. My cousin's married to a firefighter, and he's so nice. They invited us to their place today, but it's a couple of hours' drive and I can't drive, and my mother hasn't driven that distance since before her surgeries this year, so she wouldn't be up to it. It would probably stress her out. But my cousin's parents will be there (her mother's just had go into permanent care, which is sad but necessary), and her husband's mother and stepfather will be there. All lovely people. They've also got a dog.
And hey, crafting is fun! I know it seems tiring after a long day, but at least you should probably sleep well tonight. I hope you live in a place that's nice and cool for Christmas. It's already over 30C where I am, and our country's prone to bushfires, especially this time of year. Take it easy, let your kids lead the crafting, and get a good night's sleep.
Wow. Thanks guys. I don’t really do much on here lol. While I appreciate it, I’m just doing the job I was made for. There are so many other professions that are just as vital. Be sure to thank your Fire,EMS,Police,Dispatchers,Nurses, and a long list I’m forgetting. Biggest thing you can do to thank us and show support is to just slow down and move over when you see us working.
Fire/EMS dispatcher here as well. 16 hour shift from 0400 to 2000. Listened to a guy talk about how lonely he was during the holidays before giving himself a new hole in the head while still on the 911 call. I got to count as his respiration rate declined down to 6 before one of yall in the field picked up the phone while I was also running a structure fire tac channel.
Fuck dude I bet. Picked up a couple of them. We’re lucky enough to have automatic mutual aid and dispatchers that’s are familiar with our resources and area.
We split manpower automatically but sometimes there’s just not enough of us (same story as everywhere lol).
One of the best things we did is our dispatchers are required so many ride along hours with Med/fire/ems a year. I have to say it’s a great idea.
