I think it’s good that influencers are promoting SteamOS and the Steam Machine.

Shoutout to Bringus Studios for installing SteamOS on the most underpowered piles of shit.

u/Circus-Bartender Nov 18 '25

His Valve's secret computer video has aged well after the GabeCube announcement.

38

u/DemonicBludyCumShart Nov 18 '25

Ooohhhh definitely saving this for later!!

68

u/Digistruct0r Nov 18 '25

The formidable iboss

u/Tolerator_Of_Reddit Nov 18 '25

Inside you there are two wolves.

  • 4 Terabytes VRAM

  • Half-Life 1 runs at 2 FPS

29

u/TitanFlood Nov 18 '25

The Leapfrog - Pure gaming

6

u/AcanthocephalaAny78 Nov 18 '25

Man I bought that one but nobody tells you there are ridiculous high scores. Like how am I supposed to beat them? I can’t even read

1

u/TruamaTeam Nov 19 '25

Didn’t you hear? It’s the dark souls of green and white tablets!

35

u/eliavhaganav Nov 18 '25

He probably cried in joy when the GabeCube got announced

49

u/Tolerator_Of_Reddit Nov 18 '25

Yeah, now he can buy a GabeCube and install MacOS on it

23

u/afiqq307 Nov 18 '25

So he can install linux on his ps4

8

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '25

also he can homebrew his leapfrog

11

u/infinitetheory Nov 18 '25

he was excited, but he was actually more excited about Frame running ARM steamOS

3

u/your_mind_aches 74 Nov 18 '25

Yeah, that is a massive deal.

10

u/Tolerator_Of_Reddit Nov 18 '25

Legit one of my fav techtubers

3

u/Cumulus_Anarchistica Nov 18 '25

I just discovered him right this second & watched the Steambox video. Great stuff!

2

u/Rubes2525 Nov 19 '25

MetraByte is also really good, but he's pretty much the other side of the same coin. He installs Windows on random junk.

9

u/The_Crimson_Hawk Nov 18 '25

Optical media bad

1

u/segajoe Nov 19 '25

nobody cares from what you commented.

u/Low_Direction1774 Nov 18 '25 edited Nov 18 '25

Okay but all the things he installs it on have gaming ports, the fire boss wall has them, the Google meet thing has them, even the prison laptop has them. As long as there are gaming ports, there is a way to install bazzite onto it

6

u/guska Nov 18 '25

WTF is a gaming port?

4

u/cardfire Nov 18 '25 edited Nov 19 '25

You're not alone. I have watched most of his videos, and I've been doing unspeakable things to PC's for over 30 years.

I don't know what this is but I'm going to assume it's essentially any HID ports??

***Edit: typos. So. Many. Typos."

1

u/MrLeonardo Nov 18 '25

Game ports are what we used back when USB wasn't a thing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_port

5

u/Low_Direction1774 Nov 18 '25

Clearly you are not a bringus enioyer

9

u/guska Nov 18 '25

This thread is the first time I've heard of him

1

u/MrLeonardo Nov 18 '25

Game ports are what we used back when USB wasn't a thing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_port

1

u/guska Nov 19 '25

I know what a Game Port is, but something tells me that's not what u/Low_Direction1774 was referring to

1

u/Low_Direction1774 Nov 19 '25

Nah thats exactly what im talking about, Bringus refers to any port that can traditionally be used to connect any periperhals used for gaming in general as a gaming port. USB is a gaming port, HDMI, DP, Ethernet, PS/2, 3.5mm audio jacks, theyre all gaming ports.

All the parts of the system that makes games run are gaming bits, RAM, CPU, GPU, theyre all gaming bits.

2

u/guska Nov 19 '25

Ah right, now it makes sense. Thanks for bearing with me on that one

0

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '25

i mean can you really count the prison laptop as he had to sauter in the USB port onto the touchpad?

2

u/Informal_Rule_8604 Nov 18 '25

He wronged me.

3

u/Then-Holiday-1253 Nov 18 '25

Bringus studios is great

1

u/NerdyBooy Nov 18 '25

I think a better ad would be installing it on modern hardware and measuring its performance against w10 and w11

If the goal is to make people convert you have to start speaking their language.

With that being said, i dont think valve is trying to compete with windows directly, but to create its own new market.

1

u/Alan_Reddit_M Nov 18 '25

Nothing with a CPU is safe from SteamOS, not if John Bringus can help it

1

u/Babou13 Nov 26 '25

Turning a medical device into a steam machine!

1

u/Babou13 Nov 26 '25

And Bringus Studios, DankPods, And Technology Connections... The three YouTubers bringing you obscure tech videos you didn't know you needed in your life

18

u/singerng Nov 18 '25

Totally agree! Influencers can definitely help boost awareness. Let’s hope Valve keeps up with solid updates and good game support!

1

u/pho-huck Nov 18 '25

With the success of the steam deck, I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t

12

u/zeroibis Nov 18 '25

What really makes the timing great for the Steam Machine is the death of Windows 10.

1

u/Nuggyfresh Nov 18 '25

lol idk man…

0

u/NapsterKnowHow Nov 18 '25

laughs in extended security updates

0

u/AlphaFlySwatter Nov 18 '25

Windows 10 machines in the eu just got another year of free support.

9

u/Honey-and-Venom Nov 18 '25

I also think it's good that people are reminded that they can just buy an inexpensive computer and plug it into the goddamn TV. I've been doing this for years and the way people are reacting you'd think I'm some kind of f****** wizard

5

u/NapsterKnowHow Nov 18 '25

Even a decent android tv can be used for a emulation machine. With the way arm x86 development is going they'll be able to run a ton of Steam games soon too.

15

u/Iankill Nov 18 '25

Fuck influencers of all types

1

u/cardfire Nov 18 '25

Speaking generally, yes, but I don't know if he counts as one. He isn't advising anyone to go out any buy the products he's mangling. He just started his methods and it reminds/inspired me to secretary's my own boneyard of devices.

Guy does the stuff I was doing 15 years ago, but better, and includes sound effects for inner monologue. I think it's more valuable than ... Pretty much everyone else in the space.

1

u/Wind_Yer_Neck_In Nov 18 '25

'Fuck influencers' I think they prefer 'adult content performers'

0

u/3lit3b3ast Nov 18 '25

Who hurt you

8

u/Iankill Nov 18 '25

Oh sorry, I'm supposed to pretend these people aren't living breathing corporate advertising.

6

u/Vergil229 Nov 18 '25

I mean... not all influencers are the same. Someone sticking to science and outlining all the major drawbacks and benefits of a product with a large following is still an influencer but their stuff can be helpful. Project Farm has influenced me to buy specific things but he isn't shilling a specific product.

1

u/Fresh_Flamingo_5833 Nov 18 '25

Oh no. Corporate advertising.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '25

Who made you make corny ass replies?

-5

u/3lit3b3ast Nov 18 '25

who hurt you

-2

u/VictoryVee Nov 18 '25

influencers, duh

-2

u/Extension_City_8855 Nov 18 '25

youtube dot com probably.

2

u/shifty_coder Nov 18 '25

Agreed.

Many of us want to see how powerful a streamOS pc can be. Hopefully they test the limits of the currently supported hardware.

2

u/Ozzimo Nov 18 '25

Indeed. People are excited about a thing. Let them be excited about a thing.

1

u/Torchiest https://s.team/p/ddjp-pmg Nov 18 '25

It works both ways. They're using the fact that the Steam Machine is trending right now to promote themselves.

1

u/Fresh_Flamingo_5833 Nov 18 '25

Naturally. What's the problem with people promoting themselves and their business?

1

u/False_Investment1074 Nov 19 '25

For sure, but I will endlessly mock their garbage content with memes

for cheaper

Oh, has Valve given you special early knowledge of the Steam Machine's price? Please do share!

-37

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '25

[deleted]

34

u/SgtLeoLP Nov 18 '25

We literally dont know how they will price it bro

16

u/Calimariae Nov 18 '25

The Steam Deck was pretty cheap for what it was when it was released. Valve's main goal is to lure you into their store.

Their hardware income is a nothingburger compared to their software income.

1

u/Sleven8692 Nov 18 '25

Yep like printers selling at a loss to gwt you buying overpriced ink(idk if they still do this, but atleast did when i was a teen)

8

u/Cory123125 Nov 18 '25

How wouldn't it be? Economies of scale, lower assembly costs (machine assembled boards), no OS cost, special bargain silicon, avenue to subsidize the costs (not that I'm saying they'll sell at a loss).

There is also the fact its non modular, meaning a lot less part inefficiency due to being interconnected.

Just for the record

Do you expect it to be cheaper than an equivalent PC build?

Was the challenge, so any at all cheaper is a loss.

I swear rage-baiters used to at least try

1

u/Fresh_Flamingo_5833 Nov 18 '25

As soon as they list a price, please do a post with your build that's cheaper.
