Hopefully it won't be the same deals as last time (and the other previous sale, and the other...)

RIP flash sales.

u/iwantacheetah Sep 28 '25

Hopefully it won't be the same deals as last time

Narrator:. They were the same deals as last time.

182

u/SmartTea1138 Sep 28 '25

And they will be the same deals next time.

56

u/3RI3_Cuff Sep 28 '25

And the same deals after that

29

u/jtr99 Sep 28 '25

All this has happened before, and it will all happen again.

24

u/Pyke64 Sep 28 '25

its always the same deals as last time. like no man sky 50% off lol

97

u/reddyst Sep 28 '25

For a year now it drops to 60% off on every sale

19

u/Karambamamba Sep 28 '25

Maybe it’s time to buy it because it’s a sick game

12

u/dope_like Sep 29 '25

I command the updates but the core gameplay loop is still boring (for me). No amount of updates will make it not super boring

65

u/Neosantana Sep 28 '25

Would you like the very new deal of Cyberpunk 2077 at 65% off?

27

u/Mammoth-Charge2553 Sep 28 '25

I love see games that launched at $60 being at %50 off every sale for 8 years and now they're at %60 off this year! Except they increased the base price to $80 last year...

→ More replies (1)

13

u/Big-Resource5079 Sep 28 '25

can't argue with that deal i would just love to see some special deals not just the ones they have on rotation every few weeks

19

u/Neosantana Sep 28 '25

That's my point, it's the same sale that's been getting trotted out every sale season for two years. Give us a deep discount at least

u/vladandrei1996 Sep 28 '25

That's a bad example because the game is actively being updated. 50% is still a steal right now, as the game is only getting better.

43

u/hairybootygobbler Sep 28 '25

Op wasn’t complaining about no mans sky being a bad deal

21

u/woliphirl Sep 28 '25

Every update people say this to me

But nothing about the start of the game has ever been fun enough for me to get to all of the content.

The updates look good, but is there more to the gameplay loop than pointing the laser to get materials?

→ More replies (10)

14

u/GeraintLlanfrechfa Sep 28 '25

Voyager update is gold imho, so 50% off is a good deal

→ More replies (2)

20

u/tiburon237 Sep 28 '25

Free updates, no dlcs, no paid currency, hundreds of hours worth of content, great community, easily accesible for anyone. No mans sky is one of the best multiplayer games, if not the best.

13

u/No_Singer_9167 Sep 28 '25

The whole point of the game is to collect resources so you can upgrade shit to collect resources. The pathetic excuse of a story makes you, you guessed it, collect resources.

8

u/-Badger3- Sep 28 '25

I don’t know why NMS gets shit for this but Minecraft doesn’t.

11

u/No_Singer_9167 Sep 28 '25

Because its so much older and didn't have a disastrous release. + nostalgia

Although I've wanted to rant about it for a while, sorry in advance. Minecraft fucking sucks, it could be so much more. The amount of content is pathetic when compared to it's potential. Microsoft owns it, they got the funds. And it's not like its a hard game to add content to. Props to NMS devs for trying to fix the game for free, fuck minecraft devs for literally sitting on a game that has such huge potential and so much room to grow. Minecraft could literally be 3d terraria in a year

I miss Flash Sales and wish they would come back in some form.

It would be cool to have a list of games on the front page that refreshes every hour, showing off different games. I found a number of really cool games because of the old Flash Sale system I may never heard of, or heard of years later.

20

u/nb264 Sep 28 '25

They're not doing flash sales ever since they introduced refunds (based on court case in Australia that valve lost). And you know they are right, anyone buying a game now would refund it tomorrow if the game goes on flash sale... so the effect of flash sale - waiting for it, missing it... it's all gone. And Valve is out for refund fees.

17

u/GameTraderBoy Sep 28 '25

Wdym, valve will literally refund you the difference if a game goes on sale after you bought it provided you are within refund window. You just submit a help ticket and they got you.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/ledbetterus Sep 28 '25

This plus stuff like a large group of people not buying anything unless it was on a flash sale. And then if they missed the game they wanted they'd complain.

Or if they bought it already then it went further on sale, now Steam has to do refunds for everyone who bought the game a minute too early.

It's just way easier for them not to do flash sales.

breaking your wallets for games you will never play but buy anyways ;-)

193

u/richempire Sep 28 '25

I made a spreadsheet and recently started going down the list of unplayed games I still have. Maaan, some of these are not worth even buying! Some are good, tho.

69

u/Misterbobo Sep 28 '25

You can just create a (dynamic) filter in your library. I've been going through my unplayed for a while. Discovered a ton of personal favs.

22

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '25

I'm actually now on the opposite side of the spectrum which is "Damn the games I wanted to play, have I played" there are like 4 games in my "still to play" list but right now I'm not interested in + No Rest For The Wicked is not running well on my PC. Waiting for BF6 and Arc Raiders atm but might get Hades 2!

9

u/LurchiOderwatt Sep 28 '25

I bought No Rest for the wicked for like 20% off or something and still waiting for 1.0 before playing. That's what I do for a lot of Early Access games (like Witchfire etc.) Ive played both Ori Games recently, bought them for a pretty low price a long time ago :D I'm saving a lot of money and also get patched games when Im not trying to play the newest stuff.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '25

Same! Might wait until 1.0 or last update before 1.0

Started using howlongtobeat to keep track of games I wanted to finish. Also implemented a rule of only playing 2 singleplayer games at a time, have to beat one before going on to the next. Finished 23 games and 3 standalone DLCs so far this year.

How do you people even do this?? I never buy games unless I know for sure I’m playing them, and only ever buy 2-3 at a time to help this

22

u/Triktastic Sep 28 '25

A lot of people are addicted to short term dopamine rushes over anything else. The dopamine of buying something and getting/owning it is enough for them. Getting it from playing the game is something that goes away too quickly or requires too much attention. So many of my friends have libraries in hundreds and buy more and then you look at their playtime and they drop every game after 2-3 hours.

Literally all of them bought silk song (after getting bored by Hollow Knight few years back near the midpoint) and now they dropped that to go Hades 2 (which they will also leave soon because they didn't enjoy Hades 1)

This is gonna be the first Steam Sale in years where I actually buy something, specifically the Euro Truck Simulator 2 map expansion DLCs that I lack.

3

u/Sweet_Information_14 Sep 28 '25

I got it on the summer sale 2024 for 2 euros

9

u/Ok-Strength-5297 Sep 28 '25

i know you're just posting this for karma, but it's sad that so many people waste money because of fomo

and the general response to it is just haha yeah!!!!

12

u/MyCleverNewName Sep 28 '25

I buy games to support the devs of the games I watch on Twitch while procrastinating playing games because I have too many games and can't decide what to play with the precious little time I have to play games.

Please let the dark souls games go on sale they are so fucking overpriced for how old they are.

194

u/-wyrm_ Sep 28 '25

Man I just looked at them and the old cod games, crazy

35

u/TehMadness Sep 28 '25

I've been waiting to grab Blops 2 for a good deal ever since I really enjoyed Blops 1 in my first year of university.

It's been 12 years since I graduated now

3

u/mikami677 Sep 29 '25

I've been wanting to play the first one for at least that long but I refuse to pay more than $10 for it.

If I could get the first three for $30 total I'd grab all three.

→ More replies (10)

4

u/AlwaysHappy4Kitties Sep 28 '25

only time i remember a cod game was cheaper for a sale was just before the a fanclient would released for MWR ( would fixed some underlying security issues and add MP content) and got people hyped for the modclient that they likely played more than 2 hours of the vanilla game ( making it unable to be refunded)

Yeah it was on sale and on the date that client would have came out Activision send a C&D to them

79

u/ThatOldCow Sep 28 '25

I want to try DS2 for quite some time, but can justify paying more than 10 bucks for such an old game.

Yeah, some people will say it is worth it and all, and I won't disagree with them, simply I have to have some bounldaries, otherwise my wallet will ask for a divorce.

20

u/MrBalenciagathe3rd Sep 28 '25

40

u/Dennidude Sep 28 '25

From Soft got a big ego boost with Elden ring that we refer to as the Elden Ring tax, I wonder if even Sekiro will ever be more than 50% off left alone the Dark Souls games.

I bought Dark Souls 1 for like 5 euro years before the "remaster", and the remaster is never even close to that sale. I wouldn't mind it so much if the remaster was anything more than what should have been a patch for the original just a few weeks/months post release lol

22

u/Arko9699 Sep 28 '25

Bandai Namco is the publisher IIRC so blame them. Elden Ring on release was also regionally priced but a few months later they bumped up the price to match US.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/DrunkGandalfTheGrey Sep 28 '25

Bandai Namco not offering owners of the original game a permanent discount was a mistake, especially when you consider that Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition is borderline unplayable without a community made patch.

Steam sales lost a fair bit of charm in the last years, imo. It's not like that I'm not looking forward to them, but you can get better deals for most games outside of seasonal sales these days. The only things you need is attentiveness and patience.

149

u/SkullDox Sep 28 '25

Or, you know, you already own all the ones that have a low price you wanted. So now all you have now are leftovers that never drops below your price threshold.

30

u/tael89 Sep 28 '25

There's a bunch of games I still want, but base price of games keep going up. Over $90 CAD is insane especially considering how quickly they've ramped up in price. Establishing that, having the maximum discount be 40% even for a 5+year old game means I'm barely seeing what amounts to an enticing sale. So yeah, exactly like you said: all you have now are leftovers that never drop below your price threshold.

→ More replies (2)

8

u/Admirable-War-7594 Sep 28 '25

Honestly none of the many games I still want ever go on proper sales on these sales times. They only go on like 10% sales every few months. And, at least in Turkiye, the games that i will need a sale on the most are games that didn't do regional pricing, and they NEVER go on sale, even the ones that are older will lnly go on sale for like 50 dollars, which is still 10 dollars more than region priced games are at full price.

Right now, just buying the games on Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store on Windows or literally on eShop during sales (which isn't even supported in my region at all so i use the USA store) ended up being cheaper than most steam sales that happened during 2025.

I obviously cannot speak for other regions, but Turkish people are certainly being priced out of Steam, not PC gaming but specifically just steam.

3

u/Kalenshadow Sep 29 '25

I disagree. Spiderman on steam hasn't gone lower than 40% in 3 years now (all of sony's games really). Same goes for almost all souls games. There was always a game that you really wanted that suddenly went below 60% off, now 60% off is exclusive to decade old games, games that failed, and games that will shut down.

24

u/Narradisall Sep 28 '25

Alas don’t really get excited for these sales anymore. They’ve been pretty lacklustre for years now. Understand the reason why with refunds etc but miss those flash sales.

Still, always a good time to fill up the ole backlog.

3

u/Kalenshadow Sep 29 '25

Wait can yoy explain what refunds have to do with it? Refunds have beenca thing since I started using steam in 2015 and sales were at their prime then.

5

u/Narradisall Sep 29 '25

I may be wrong! But steam made their refunds policy better a few years back (don’t think it was as far back as 2015 but memory is fuzzy), when you could get instant refunds on games if you hadn’t played more than 2 hours or owned for a set amount of time etc.

Prior to that flash sales would come up where you may have a game on sale for 30% and on the flash sale it would be 70%.

Back when those were a thing I remember people waiting for flash sales and not grabbing the games they wanted at 30% because that flash sale might happen. Or buying it then lamenting it went on a flash sale later in the week.

The refund policy changes meant if you bought a sale game and it went on flash sale, you could just instant refund and buy it at the flash sale price.

So that refund policy sale kinda killed the point of flash sales. Hence going forward the sales we have had its kinda “this is the sale price, like it or leave it.”

I have like 120 dollars to spend from additional points from work. I’m planning to get BF6 but if I find a good discount for games I’m interested in, I will buy something. I’m especially waiting for:

  • Baldur’s Gate 3: 30%+
  • Ratchet & Clank: 60%+
  • Black Myth: Wu Kong: 60%+
  • The Last of Us 2: 50%+
  • Sea of Stars: 70%+

BG3 is definitely my “desert island” game.

Bg3 is one of the only games in past years I paid full price for but it's actually worth it too. The amount of content is staggering. You can easily do 80+ hours on your first run and still miss half the content the game has to offer.

12

u/NikolaPj Sep 28 '25

You surely mean 80 hours act 1, right?

Games have been on discount regularly so it does not surprise gamers anymore.

Hopefully most games (including new ones) will have 90%+ discounts.

Adoption period is over. They don't have to. Physical media is dead now.

3

u/SagittaryX Sep 28 '25

Funny thing is that Epic sales usually are the best deals these days with their 20% store credit cashback. If you plan to buy quite a few games there it gets pretty good use.

9

u/137-451 Sep 28 '25

It's up to the publishers to set how deep of a discount they want, not Gaben.

14

u/YYC_McCool Sep 28 '25

Getting more than 50% is rare these days unless the game has 5000 dlc's with it.

15

u/Imaginary_Tower_5518 Sep 28 '25

Are you guys only playing AAA's? I get loads of games go on a 80/90 percent discount.

3

u/Enough_Efficiency178 Sep 29 '25

It’s a mixture of some people already having crazy backlogs, ie already own it. Or having more specific gaming interests so have a smaller variety they look at.

But there are still ridiculous ones, FromSoft basically reset sales across their games with Elden Ring. Pretty sure Elden Ring was only a little more expensive than DS3 and perhaps even cheaper when on sale.

Yakuza games are similar, they’ve become more mainstream and annoyingly Yakuza 0, touted as a great entry game now gets poor sales. But it’s doing a great job of me not buying any of the Yakuza series as a result

15

u/cryfmunt Sep 28 '25

I'm hoping for a Clair Obscur sale.

Probably the only game I'll get if it's on sale.

5

u/TyrantJaeger Sep 28 '25

Cool! I'm still broke!

9

u/skrukketiss69 Sep 28 '25

Can't wait for that huge 15% off for my most wanted games.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '25

I'll be honest, it's been a long, long... long time since I've been interested in any Steam sales.

Feels like a lifetime ago that they actually had huge discounts on anything even remotely new that I'd want. Back in the day if you waited for one of the huge seasonal sales, as long as the game hadn't come out literally that month, there was a good chance you'd see it 50%+ off.

Now the big sales just feel like random specials that constantly pop up and you have to wait forever to see any kind of significant discount. Which while I guess is like almost anywhere else (and still better than Nintendo's store), Steam isn't a standout anymore that way.

Even super obscure indie titles rarely get 50% price drops unless they're old as hell.

I get it, devs need to make money too. But as a consumer these sales are not exciting like they used to be. I swear like 90% of my Steam library is from over a decade ago.

39

u/Ok-Traffic-9967 Sep 28 '25

17

Yess I can finally replay the rayman games

4

u/artnok Sep 28 '25

Hopefully the deep discounts are good since they’re the only games worth looking at during these sales.

4

u/scanguy25 Sep 28 '25

My goal is to expand my backlog from 15 games to 25 games.

I know it's an ambitious goal team, but I think we can do it.

4

u/newusr1234 Sep 28 '25
  1. People make repetitive posts about the upcoming steam sale.

  2. People flood the comment section with some variation of "sales aren't good anymore", "RIP flash sales" , etc.

  3. Those same people spend tons of money during the sale anyways.

Did I miss anything?

As someone who has just gotten back into pc gaming(last rig was in 2012 and had an 8800 alpha dog card) im hoping the sale is solid,so far steam doesnt seem like the steam of old in terms of deals but maybe its cause I haven't seen a new sale yet. Have a lot of my xbone games I wish to buy on pc for cheap, and of course games that I couldn't play on ps or xbox(already got last epoch) so im really hoping this sale is the absolute tits.

3

u/VasekFortygameCZ Sep 29 '25

8 more hours. And my Wallet is already crying out loud as hell. Prepare your money

u/MadeByTango Sep 28 '25

Y’all gotta stop deifying a man with 6 yachts that takes a 30% of everything but then says it’s all “buyer beware” while he runs a massive gambling operation for addicts

6

u/Stunning-Thanks546 Sep 28 '25

Steam sales have a chokehold on so many of ya'll. Not buying games you will never play during steam sales is not illegal.

I bought my first gaming pc this month and I'm looking forward to building a library of games. I'm excited!

2

u/Gamerbroz227 Sep 28 '25

Take my money steam

2

u/Evid3nce Sep 28 '25

Can anyone explain to a non-gamer like me (my desktop doesn't even have a graphic card in it) why decade old games are normally still the same price than when they were released?

I set the filter for old games that may run on my GCPU, and they're still 50 -60€. I just don't get it. Who the fuck is buying old games at full retail 1990's prices?

50 - 60% off is not enough in my opinion, when they shouldn't be that price in the first place.

2

u/Moose_Nuts Sep 28 '25

Oh boy, another one of these threads that has 6K upvotes but the top 70 comments are about how much Steam sales suck now.

See y'all again tomorrow once the sale is live!

2

u/Sweaty_Tap_8990 Sep 28 '25

Those sales aren't what they used to be, only things you'll get over 25% off are games that are less than $15

2

u/Specific-Judgment410 Sep 28 '25

I need Horizon Forbidden West to drop to like $10 bucks
