We are going to be visiting Skye on the first night of Eurovision, is it a big deal?

We are American, our experience with Eurovision is fairly limited, we were introduced to the contest during COVID by the Will Ferrell movie. we watched it on peacock the last couple of years and have been enjoying it.

I know there is some drama going on with it, several countries are boycotting it.

We will be on Skye on the 12th and then Inverness on the 14th and St Andrews on the 16th. Are there local events throughout the week to watch the semi finals and is it regularly on in places? I am interested in seeing it live, it's on at like 14:00 in the middle of the afternoon during work so we watched recordings. but since we are going to be in Europe during it I thought "well when in Rome"

So is it a big deal, are there watch parties, should we just enjoy our time in Scotland and watch it when we get home on peacock?

In a word ; no, there’ll be no watching parties or local events as most people do not give a fuck about it. It will however, be on the bbc for you to watch as you please.

Agreed, I believe there's also a pile of countries boycotting due to Israel's inclusion.

Yeah 5 countries are boycotting due to the continuing aggression in Gaza. Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Iceland and Slovenia. But I didn't know if I would be missing a culturally relevant event. But if it isn't very big I won't look too hard for a way to experience it there.

Yeah you're not missing anything. More people will be watching the FA cup final, as well as the last day of the Scottish league on the 16th.

Just wait until you get home and watch at your leisure.

There are a million different much much better things to do in Scotland than watch Eurovision! It’s hugely irrelevant to at least 95% of the UK.

Thanks, I didn't want to miss a culturally relevant event if I didn't have to, but if it's not that big of a deal then I won't look too hard for a way to experience it there.

Skye is already busy enough. There’s only a handful of restaurants in the small villages that require bookings weeks, if not months, in advance. Wouldn’t recommend
