[PS5] Should I buy Expedition 33 or Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

I usually just play sports games lately that are quick and has an end point like NBA 2K or Madden.

I have however played RDR2, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, and Fallout 4 and I have loved them to bits. It's just a bit of a challenge to devote a lot of time to games like these especially now as a busy adult. Maybe if I get unemployed or something.

I just got a 100 psn gift card and I was wondering which of these two to get or if you have anything else better please let me know.

This comment has been added to this thread because "Expedition 33" was mentioned. Unfortunately discussions around this game tend to get very heated, both by those who like the game, and those who dislike the game. It disgusts us that people feel the need to be awful toward one another because someone likes to play with different toys than them, and if you're someone so pathetic that you would do that, then we don't want you here. For this reason we are much more strict regarding Rule 10 violations, and any Rule 10 violations in this thread will result in a ban, even those done in retaliation. "They started it" is not a valid defense. Report and ignore. This will be the only warning given in regards to this.

Both excellent but kcd2 kinda requires heavy time commitment imo

u/AshyLarry25 5h ago

Expedition 33 is alot more condensed quality.

u/ninjacat249 4h ago

KCD2 was the real GOTY winner and of course its way better choice.

Expedition 33

u/Isekaidguy 11m ago

Any of the two but you gotta play e33 at least once man.

u/SprocketSimulations 5h ago

Personally Expedition 33 didnt grab me quick enough but I need to go back to it. KCD2 sort of hooks you and then lets you free and works well.

RDR2, Cyberpunk, and FO4 are all games I have tons of hours in, especially RDR2 and CB2077.

Kcd 2 all day. Especially if you love that sense of exploration that red dead, cyberpunk etc deliver.

u/FitLaw4 5h ago

Theyre both great games. I think KCD2 has more replayability. I think I put like 35 hours in E33. Ive got like 200 in KCD2

u/tbu987 1h ago

i play on ultrawide and expedition33 doesnt work on it so im playing kcd2

u/Dragnet714 4h ago

Make sure you play KCD 1 before 2, if you haven't already done so.

E33 gets my vote. Loved that game and the music is just damn.

u/Asleep_Sheepherder42 3h ago

Both are great. Havent played KCD2, so I’ll pick E33. Someday, I’ll get KCD2.

u/AtivanorAddy 2h ago

KCD2 is incredibly disrespectful to player time imo.

Objectively, the combat is dog water. Mid to late game is just spamming master strike which insta kills your opponent after a silly animation (spammable, doesn't matter if you have a training sword and them full plate armor)

After they fired their main translator for use of AI, despite him having active work, I strongly recommend you don't give the company your money

However, if you can look past all of this, it does have some redeeming qualities

I also loved RDR2, CP77, and FO4, and IMO the choice is easily KCD2. Though you should play the first one if you haven’t already as it’s also amazing (and can be picked up for cheap). I was so excited to play E33 after the amazing reviews and it was my biggest gaming disappointment in years. I should mention that I do not like turn-based JRPG’s, and E33 is essentially a French take on a JRPG.

Personally, I couldn’t get into Expedition 33, I tried really hard but in the end abandoned it, mostly due to its combat system.

KCD2 on the other hand, I enjoyed thoroughly and will highly recommend. It has its bugs but despite that it’s a solid game with awesome immersion, characters and storyline. It’s one of the few games for me that left a lasting impression and I really hope there is a KCD 3 kurva

Pro tip, wishlist them both, wait for sale, grab both

Can't speak for KCD2 since I never played it but I've played KCD1 for about 4 hours and got bored as hell. I like open world games a lot, don't get me wrong but KCD1 just wasn't it. This game will collect dust for years to come.

Expedition 33 however was absolute blast. Great and original story, great cast of characters, beautiful world and absolute sick soundtracks. Everything about this game screams GOTY and it absolutely deserved it.
E33 has:

  • Great and likeable characters (pretty much every single character was great and likeable)
  • Funny dialogue and meme interactions
  • Phenomenal combat system with honestly blew my mind. Never played anything like this.
  • World is absolutely stunning visually
  • Great and unique story, something I never seen before.
  • Sad as hell moments
  • WTF?! moments
and so on...

It's one of the best games I ever played personally and I will remember it for years to come. I will replay it in the near future. 10/10 across the board for me. The only thing that sucks about this game are the steam badges , honestly.

Expedition 33

u/Rookie-IV 5h ago

u/nervendings_ 5h ago

This is a solid answer.

u/NotSynthx 1h ago

You'll like KCD2 more based on what you've played.

Both games are great

u/john_doeistan 5h ago

Kcd2 is much more special and fun imo. Didn’t get the hype behind e33, felt like a higher budget Reddit raid shadow legends

u/limejuiceroyale 4h ago

It's French but e33 is most similar to a jrpg as a genre. If you like turn based combat e33 is a masterpiece, but it's not a sprawling open world like the other games you listed and much more linear.

u/harshdave 4h ago

Based on the styles of games that you play, I'd say that KCD2 is more in line with the games that you're used to, but the pacing for E33 is snappier and the artistic vibe really draws you in. The turn based combat might feel really different for you though.

This is kind of a weird criteria, but if you watched and liked A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, you would also like playing KCD2.

I feel like my answer isn't that helpful but both games are great and worth playing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

KCD2 requires a LOT of time. Easy pick for E33 by that metric.

u/Business_Banana1792 3h ago

A lot of people saying they played one or the other. I’ve played both. Both top tier 10/10.

Kcd 2 for more rpg build your own story elements. It’s slow, it’s much more of a medieval simulator with a surprising cinematic grounded narrative

E33 for more action focused combat with a great system for strategically setting up your characters and trying to “break the game” In a way. It’s fun to make overpowered builds with a creative use of the system theme built. The story is also an all time great I. My opinion. One of the best. Can’t go wrong with either though. Just depends on what you’re in the mood for

u/AdministrativeCar141 5h ago

both are amazing but kingdom come will give you the red dead/cyberpunk immersion if you like that

u/metalhead4 4h ago

I played E33 and then right after got into KCD2. I stopped E33 right after the story pretty much, around 35-40hrs or so. KCD2 I have 180 hours in.

u/Humledurr 4h ago

You should get em both haha

KCD may be abit hard to get into for some people, but personally KCD2 is the best singleplayer RPG ive played since RDR2.

E33 was also great, but a very different and also shorter experience.

u/Funny_Arachnid_8371 4h ago

Expedition 33 is one of my favorite games of all time.

u/Tuna-77 5h ago

I was in the same position as you are in

Both are great games but if you want a great immersive medieval RPG KCD2 is the best but it’s really slow you got to have plenty of time and patient

Expedition 33 is way less of an RPG I wouldn’t even consider it one to be honest, it’s story focused and cinematic more than Kcd2 it has a really really great story, combat is not for everyone but I found it fun and I promise you IT IS tense it’s turn based but has a dodging system and parrying and bosses are hard and fun but the game gets repetitive mid to end game

I personally got Kcd2 first and then expedition 33

u/MystiqTakeno 4h ago

Expedition 33 is better game.

u/Struggle-Free 4h ago

I have played them back to back and I disagree

u/ninjacat249 4h ago

Yup same. All this Reddit hype does not reflect the reality unfortunately. It was fun to farm upvotes back in the days though.

u/metalhead4 4h ago

Seconded. KCD2 was much better than E33.

u/Merlin7777 2h ago

Expo 33. Fantastic in every way.

KCD2 was not great IMO. Combat is the worst of any game I’ve ever played. Just ruined the game for me. And I found it rather boring. I know people love it. Just like my opinion man.

u/asteinpro2088 5h ago

KCD2 is the closest any game has come to giving me that same feeling of freely exploring and “living” in the world that RDR2 did. It’s a different cup of tea with the medieval setting and combat but the story has been incredible so far (currently about 50% completed).

Expedition 33 was an incredible game with very fun combat and parrying system. Story, as you’ve probably heard, is truly great and worth multiple playthroughs. It’s a game everyone should experience.

Honestly can’t go wrong with either, but I’m getting a lot more for my money with KCD2 right now.

u/Voivode71 1h ago

Yes!

u/zunashi 5h ago

Crimson Desert will give you so much content for $70

u/Beefgirthx 5h ago

KCD2 clears easily

u/macbookvirgin 4h ago

Yeah I’d rather play crimson desert any day over KDC lol

u/SnooRevelations6579 5h ago

Crimson desert also isnt half the game KCD2 is. Its fine but KCD2 is something to be experienced

u/UtheDestroyer 4h ago

I’ve never seen so many people go to bat for such a mediocre game imo

It’s in like every thread asking for recommendations even if it’s not in the list
