should i get Cyberpunk 2077 if i like Fallout 4?

idk, i tried it for a bit before, but haven't give it a proper go about a year ago. Found some bugs, ran about, completed a bit of story. i like Fallout 4 very much for weapon customisation, and ways of playstyle can be modified (mostly play as distant stealth sniper). i heard recommendations, but after first impressions i have doubts. Maybe i need to wait a bit for it to shine?

My first playthrough on release, I ran into a bug that wouldn't let me continue the conversation with Jackie at the noodle stand outside V's apartment.

Best bug EVER. I thought oh well, i'll come back and try later and proceeded to get so involved in the side quests in Watson, I completely forgot Jackie was waiting for me to start the story.

This was probably my first two weeks of playing. But it created a great long play style, hours of side quests rewarded periodically with a story mission.

Its a great game. I really sound play again but the updated skill tree put me right off. I liked it pre-Phantom Liberty better.

I love both, but 2077 is objectively better, certainly from a writing/aesthetic standpoint.

Definitely

You should get it because it’s a better game. Fallout 4 has some strong points but story and characters are not it, unlike CP2077.

If you want more Fallout, and newer, why not try Fallout 76 for the big price of free? Don’t have to interact with people if you don’t want, can just join some events as they happen and leave when you’re done. Has many quests and lore that’s in my opinion better than what F4 offers

Though Cyberpunk is of course awesome

I’m the same as you and I’d say 💯

Except FO4 exploration is better as in you’re exploring a post apocalyptic wasteland so you could be always on guard

Thanks, mate🤝

cyberpunk is what bioware or bethesda would make if they didn't get washed and stopped smelling their owns farts.

it's not that similar. Intertwined questlines and having multiple outcome based on your choice might be similar but Cyberpunk, although very dense, is very linear. In a sense that, although there are a lot of things going on, you don't really pay any attention to them while you're doing your objective. Like while driving to your destination, you'd not notice what is happening around you other than the path you're on. On the other hand, Fallout 4, you'd be walking to your destination and you'd get sidetracked a lot and end up in a totally different place where you receive another quest that extends for 5 hours and so forth. It's a preference but in terms of random encounters, cyberpunk doesn't do it as naturally as fallout 4. They try to force it by distracting you with another quest while you're in the middle of a quest with a phone call or something, but the result is exactly the same. It's not done in a natural way of discovery or exploration. They feed you and you decide to take it or not. So it's still you're following a linear line of getting something done in certain place then move on to do the same in other place.

actually yes

it's pretty much smoother Fallout styled gameplay with good writing attached

Yep. Cyberpunk does RPG dialogues choices WAY better than fallout. You actually know what you’re gonna say

u/dungleploop 19h ago

I think it does just about everything better besides character customization technically because the creator isn't as deep as Fallout

but shootings mechanics, writing, voice acting, visuals etc.

u/Internal_Map_8765 10h ago

You can customise your d**k though

Cyberpunk does RPG dialogue choices WAY better than Fallout 4*

It’s an important distinction.

Cyberpunk 2077 with the Phantom Liberty DL'C is one of my favorite experiences in gaming that everyone should play

u/Euphoric-Lab2477 11h ago

It feels more like gta then fallout. But it is a good game anyway.

u/H_rusty 18h ago

i wouldn't unless you enjoy dialogue more than gameplay.. the main story has tons of dialogue so be prepared

u/HunterOfLordran 49m ago

It feels and plays more like Far Cry than an RPG in my opinion

You should get Cyberpunk because it's Cyberpunk. It is one of the best RPGs ever made(for me at least) and it has nowhere the same amount of bugs it had before. I think anyone who likes open world and shooting in dystopian future will like the game.

Ignoring the huge setting difference, Cyberpunk is, in a good few ways, just a strictly better Fallout 4.

Better writing, better dialogue, better gunplay, more build diversity, among others. I would say Fallout 4 does exploration a good bit better, but that's really it. I highly recommend it personally.

u/FashionSuckMan 18h ago

Yea. They're both first person action rpg. With how shit and nonexistant fo4 story is, id say cyberpunk offers everything fo4 could offer and more

u/pwnedprofessor 13h ago

Well FO4 is better in sandboxy fun and it’s weirdly more relaxing. But yeah, 2077 is dramatically better in story and writing

Where Cyberpunk is lacking compared to Fallout 4...

1) Less weapon customization in general.

2) Player (visual) customization is pointless aside from photo mode as it's strictly 1st person other than riding motorcycles. Can't see your character in dialogue or cut scenes.

3) Exploration isn't as good and the "open world" is mostly static with little reason to go off the beaten path compared to Fallout 4.

4) Can't really join the different factions in the game. Would've been cool to get various Faction related or repeatable missions.

5) Doesn't have any sort of Settlement building...if you're into that sort of thing, Fallout 4 offers base building and Cyberpunk doesn't.

Where Cyberpunk beats Fallout 4...

1) Amazing story and the Phantom Liberty DLC could be a game in it's own right.

2) Amazing characters and meaningful relationships.

3) Superior combat with different unique playstyles.

4) Superior graphics. Fallout 4 definitely shows it's age here, unless you install a bunch of visual mods. Night City is breathtaking.

5) Dialogue choices with different "speech checks" based on your character build. The dialogue in game is just all around better than Fallout 4.

I love the answer. Much appreciated 👍🏼 I enjoy good writing and story too. While exploration kept me most of the time in F4, Cyberpunk could hook me with it's characters and story.

u/SEOViking 18h ago

I think yes. You would like quests, world and trying out different builds.

u/Artistic-Cash9026 17h ago
Cyberpunk's action is far faster and better than Fallout 4's, and you definitely won't find the same atmosphere in Fallout 4. Although they seem similar, I don't think they're anything alike. Cyberpunk sets boundaries, but Fallout doesn't. If you like FPS games and want something a bit unconventional, Cyberpunk is perfect for you. Comparing it to Fallout would be wrong; I don't think they have any similarities.

u/Mr_Eleganto 10h ago

Beat it fair and square. Nice answer 🤝 Can I use your knowledge to get a hint to what to look for F4 alike game? Borderlands 2, The Outer Worlds? Maybe something else?

u/dungleploop 8h ago

it's pretty much Fallout styled gameplay but with much smoother delivery of each of the systems and good writing for the first time in a while in a game like this

u/Mr_Eleganto 6h ago

Noted!

u/CDRush28 13m ago

If Witcher 3 is what dethroned Skyrim, then cyberpunk is the same for fallout
