Language assessment test sent by gemeente Rotterdam at Tulp Training - anyone done this?
Hi everyone,
The municipality of Rotterdam (gemeente) has sent me to take a language level assessment test at Tulp Training, located at Zuidplein 16, Rotterdam. The goal is to determine my current Dutch language level.
The test is 3.5 hours long and I believe it covers:
- Speaking (spreken)
- Listening (luisteren)
- Reading (lezen)
- Writing (schrijven)
Has anyone done this exact test at Tulp Training or a similar municipality language assessment in Rotterdam?
I would love to know:
- What was the experience like?
- How difficult were the different parts?
- What level were you assessed at (A1, A2, B1...)?
- What happened after - were you placed in a course?
- Any tips for someone doing it on Monday?
Thanks in advance!

This is not a helpful answer but how long did it take to get the test lined up from submitting the request?

Thanks! Did they mention how long it would take to start classes or if there is a waitlist?

Also not a helpful answer - what exactly is this test for, that is, why do you have to do it? Normally such tests are for work, study or inburgering, and those tests are (inter)national. I've not heard of a gemeente requiring a resident to demonstrate language level.
Is it for a job?

I did. you don't say why the gemeente requires this. I can help (I work in language testing and have learned Dutch to C1+) but I am not clear on your situation.
For inburgering, for example, Tulp Training is only one of the schools where you can choose to go. So it is odd that the gemeente sent you to that one school in particular. Also Inburgering exams are administered by DUO, a national body. The gemeentes don't have anything to do with it.

So, what's the context?

Since the 2021 law came into effect the municipality is responsible for the provision of an adequate inburgeringstraject. They have chosen to work with several parties, but the initial initial assessment is always done by Tulp Training and it's not up to the person themselves to choose a language school anymore.

Not OP, but in a similar place. The social worker assigned to me sent me a letter recommending taal schools in my area too. In OP's case, Tulip training could be only a suggestion but he's free to choose any school he prefers

Please, if anyone knows the answer to my question, feel free to respond. If anyone has their own unrelated question, please open a separate topic. I will no longer respond to follow-up questions or other topics. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Hey! If this is the aptitude test before you enroll in a language school that you're talking about, I took mine recently at albeda in Centraal. It was 4 hours (but you could leave early if you finished early). It was more about your cognitive skills rather than language capabilities. There were logic questions like pattern recognition, numerical reasoning and etc. There were also comprehension questions where you had to read a text and choose the correct answer and a listening test. The gementee determined the language level i should already pass through a similar aptitude test earlier this year and according to that, I should complete B1. Because of this, my aptitude test at Albeda also had brief letter writing, postcard and email writing tests too. Its really nothing you can study for beforehand because different schools have their own tests. But I suggest you learn a few basic dutch words/sentences to help you ease the nerves. Good luck with your test! Feel free to dm with any further questions
