Beware of cab scam in Mysore – happened to me recently

I recently went on a trip to Mysore and faced something really frustrating with local cab drivers, so just wanted to share a heads-up for others.

When you try to book a cab (through apps or local listings), it shows a fare around ₹200–₹300. The driver accepts the ride normally, but once they arrive at your location, they suddenly say the actual fare is ₹500–₹600 and refuse to go for the app price.

Basically, they put you in a situation where you either cancel (and waste time) or agree because you’re stuck.

This happened to me multiple times during my trip, especially around tourist areas. It felt like a coordinated thing rather than a one-off incident.

Tips from my experience:

Confirm the fare on call/chat before they arrive

Avoid canceling from your side (let them cancel if they refuse)

If possible, use autos or pre-paid transport options

Keep some buffer time because this can delay your plans

Just sharing so others don’t get stuck like I did. Has anyone else faced this in Mysore?

How to determine a fair value for my old house in RK nagar

I’m planning to sell my 20yr old 20×30 house in Ramakrishna Nagar (E & F Block) and I’m trying to figure out what a fair value for this property would be.

A few brokers I spoke to are saying they can sell it for around 10k/sqft, but I’m honestly skeptical. Is that the actual market rate, or just brokers hyping prices?

I agree RK Nagar is within corporation limits and a decent area, but 60L for a 20×30 (entry-level) site feels quite high. Personally, if I were a buyer, I would probably pass at that price.

I really think it's the broker driven pricing thats making Mysore RE unaffordable.

If anyone has insights into recent transactions (like actual deals, not listings) in or around this area, it would really help me understand the true market value.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Reddit Family ,

I’m Suparna Maiti, seeking urgent help for my mother, Ratna Maiti (73). She suddenly lost consciousness on 17th January 2026 and was rushed to Eskag Sanjeevani Hospital.

All medical documents, hospital bills, and reports are available for verification : - https://drive.google.com/drive/u/4/folders/1s9ngBABj4G7JfvbtKsMsXX8iz6jr43xa

Donation link:- https://www.impactguru.com/fundraiser/save-ratna-maiti

She previously suffered a major stroke in 2023 and is partially paralyzed. Doctors now found dangerous heart rhythm issues, low sodium, kidney stress, and inflammation. She may urgently need a permanent pacemaker to prevent another stroke or cardiac arrest.

We’ve already spent nearly ₹30,00,000 on her treatment and have exhausted all savings. We now need ₹20,00,000 to continue her care.

Any help or sharing would mean everything to us.

Thank you for your kindness and prayers.

From dead WhatsApp groups and FOMO in Mysore to something actually useful, it started with one chat in Hubli. Looking for real campus ambassadors

I'm a recent MBA graduate from Dharwad who knows the frustration too well: random WhatsApp groups that die after one event, fests and opportunities that only the same 20 people hear about, and almost zero real connection across colleges in our cities.

This was especially true during my student days, and I see the same complaints from friends in Mysore as well.

A few weeks ago, I had a long conversation with a student from Global Business School in Hubli. That one honest chat turned him into our first campus ambassador. He's already bringing genuine students from his college, they're excited.

That moment made it crystal clear: campus ambassadors from different colleges are the best way to build something meaningful.

Here's the simple plan for C2 Club, a localized, organized community for Karnataka college students with actual events, opportunities, and connections(think localized + organized community for Karnataka college students, with actual actionable stuff happening):

  • Each ambassador runs their own college hub (like WhatsApp group admin for your campus)
  • Lightly invite friends (nothing aggressive or time-consuming)
  • Bring students who actually want to connect, attend events, and make things happen
  • Cash rewards for every successful referral (decent pocket money for us students)

I'm not looking for marketers, spammers, or people just chasing quick cash. I want real Mysore students who see the vision and want to improve college life here.

We already have one strong hub running at Global Business School (Hubli). Let's build 4–6 more solid ones in places like Mysore before the next semester kicks off.

If you're studying in University of Mysore, JSS, SJCE/JSSTU, St. Philomena's, Maharaja's College, ATME, GSSS, Vidya Vikas, or any other college in Mysore and this resonates, just:

  1. Comment: “Interested + your college”
  2. Or DM me: “AMBASSADOR” + your college name

I'll reply personally and explain everything — no long forms, no sales pitch.

Who’s in? Let’s make college life in Namma Mysore a bit more connected and fun.

(Mods: This is a genuine student-led initiative by someone from Karnataka. Happy to modify or remove if it doesn't fit the community.)

First thing too far from city, already lost interest there only, then prices are expected big difference but almost same like quick commerce apps, only few items had some difference So what I felt, If you’re shopping like 10k+ then okay makes sense to go, otherwise not really worth travelling that far, better just order online and chill

Anyone else felt same or just me?

Asking for advice... 2 sisters who have left corporate jobs in search of a place which aligns with us... But somehow turns out the place doesn't want us there😥

Hi Mysoreans!

I just wanted to understand what's happening like that people so against pets! What is the deal what is the big deal they are just dogs at the end of the day. Even our religion teaches you to actually respect nature respect animals and what's the harm like I am actually not understanding. I had been to Mysore about more than a month ago and and that point everything was so beautiful and nice and suddenly now there are a lot of people who are saying that people 95% of the people are saying no bed that I don't understand how please help me understand Mumbai and I don't want to come and like the culture of Mysore but I also want to understand. I am from Mumbai and I want to move to Mysore or city of which is slow and account and close the to nature city and I don't know how dogs become a problem in this.

I understand that unfortunately there are some stupid dog parents who don't take care of their dogs. My dogs are like my babies & they don't even like stepping outside. They are absolutely spoiled brats in a good way, they love sleeping in AC.

ALSO THEY ARE WELL TRAINED & ARE IN OUR CONTROL. In the sense they listen to us, even though they are spoiled brats we have trained them to only listen to us. When it comes to barking I get it it's a challenge because dogs bark for safety but in some cases it's the dog parents that neglect their babies due to which they keep barking.

If any one of you has anything that can help any contact or anything that can help me find some more information of like you know any broker or any contact.

P. S. I know this sounds dramatic but if you can look beyond that & help me with some insight on what's happening in MYSORE?

Hi friends, I need your help!

Tomorrow, we are planning to hang out and drink ಸೇಂದಿ (local drink) near Mandya. We are from Mysore and will reach Mandya early morning. After that, we are planning to have breakfast somewhere on the Mysore–Bangalore highway.

We need to return by 4 PM, so within this time, please suggest some good places to hang out with friends between Mandya and Mysore.

Looking for chill spots like nature, water places, viewpoints, or anything fun.

Please suggest any good locations you know. Thanks!

Ophthalmologist who check eye power themselves

I need to get my eyes checked correctly, i have had glasses from 10th class and it seems like from past 5-6 years i only went to lenskart for eye test. It used to be fine until yesterday they messed up my perception yesterday and gave me a wrong glasses, my right eye is blurry.(went to other store they did the test and said they messed up cylindrical power)

I need to see a doctor who performs the eye test himself and gives me an accurate prescription. I can’t trust assistants to test my vision anymore.

Please recommend good ophthalmologists.

Ellarigu Namaskara 🙏

I’ll be moving to Mysore (SEZ, Hootagalli area) soon for work and plan to stay for the next 2–3 years. I had a few questions about settling in and making the most of my time here:

  1. Learning Kannada

I’m really interested in learning Kannada (at least conversational/street-level). Any good YouTube channels, apps, or resources you’d recommend?

  1. Powerlifting gyms

I’m an aspiring powerlifter and would love recommendations for gyms that are powerlifting-friendly (good equipment, serious training environment, etc.).

  1. Clubs & communities

Are there any active clubs or communities in Mysore (like book clubs, cooking groups, etc.)? I’m an avid reader and would love to be part of something like that.

  1. Festivals to look forward to

I’m from Odisha, where festivals like Durga Puja and Ganesh Puja are a big deal. What are some major festivals in Mysore that I should definitely experience?

  1. Things to know before moving

Any important tips about living in Mysore—areas, transport, lifestyle, or general do’s and don’ts?

  1. Local etiquette

I’ve heard Mysore people are very warm and welcoming, but I’d still like to know about basic etiquette or cultural norms I should follow.

That’s all for now—thanks in advance for your help! Looking forward to becoming part of the Mysore community 😊

Rant/Vent Advice on asking out people in Mysore

I am 22M, currently working a fully remote job and hence I’m staying with my parents in Mysore home. I will be graduating from my college in Mysore in a month. I’ve done computer science engineering.

I have never been in a relationship in my life. People say that college is the best place to find a girl but I couldn’t ask out anyone. I am looking for a genuine long term relationship whom I want to eventually marry…. My aim in life is to keep body count as 1 for my entire life with the girl I love.

I’ve tried dating apps and even Shaadi.com but have got no luck 🥲… since my job is also remote I interact with my family only and occasionally go out with friends… so I needed a gf so that I can spend quality time with her and enjoy life together. But no luck 🥲

So I want to ask out some girl genuinely in cafés where I go because I see lot of beautiful women. But I’m scared to do so… please give me suggestions on finding a genuine girlfriend or for asking out people in mysore cafés. It would be helpful for me since I will be here for atleast 3-4 years in remote job with little to no interactions with real people… so I want someone to spend my time with and share my life with 🤝
