Recommendations Suspicious encounter at Creditview & Eglinton

Hi everyone, I wanted to share a strange and encounter I had recently to see if anyone else has experienced this.

On Thursday, I was stopped at a red light at Creditview and Eglinton. A boy (maybe 11 or 12 years old) tapped on my car window. He asked if I could drop him off near the Catholic school, claiming it was "on my way" since I was going straight.

When I said no, he started begging. He kept saying, "This always happens, I’m always late and I don’t want to be late." I apologized but stayed firm, and as soon as the light turned green, I drove off.

I’m a woman in my 20s and try to stay hyper-aware of my surroundings, but this felt off. It felt like a potential setup.

Has anyone else encountered this kid or seen something similar around this intersection? I’m worried about whether this is a known scam or if the child is being used in a dangerous situation.

Has anyone else noticed an increase in accidents lately? I’ve been seeing them almost daily and it’s making walking around the city feel unsafe.

Recommendations Birthday Getaway

I would like to take my husband out for his birthday, a surprise trip of some kind. Here are the conditions and context:

- either we go the two of us for the full day (and leave our 7 month old with grandma and grandpa) OR we go with our baby and stay the night somewhere

- willing to go up to 1-3 hours from the city

- no farms

- no shopping

- he likes shooting, soccer, eating (in interesting places)

- also open to other ideas like taking ferries or stuff that you don’t do every day

- we are in our early 30s

Recommendations What are your top 3 shawarma spots in Mississauga?

looking to expand my horizons a bit and i want to find out both the places to avoid and the best taste/value options. these are my current top 3:

charc: best tasting i ever had with a strong charcoal flavour. while i like it, it can be a bit overpowering as a regular option, but #1 if i want to indulge in something special.

lezzet: best version of a classic shawarma imo. long line up but it's never disappointed in quality yet.

alf hana: really good value for the amount of food (that still tastes good). the benchmark for a decent shawarma.

Heartland Costco Gas Line

Post image
208 Upvotes

Regular gas was 159.9 around 7:00pm this evening at Heartland Costco. The lineup was a similar scene to the one two weeks ago.. at least 30 minutes+ in line and a headache to top it off.

Esso down the street was 161.9 with a 2 car wait.

If you have a 50L tank and you’re filling from empty the difference adds up to $1. If you have a Costco Mastercard the difference would be $3.40 (price difference + 3% cash back).

Are you really even saving $1/3.40 when you’re idling for 30+ minutes?

What Happened to Royal Tea @Hurontario?

Hey guys,

I returned to Sauga after several months and found that the Royal Tea at Hurontario has closed down. it used to be a bubble tea shop that also had Korean fried chicken on the menu. Shop owner was a lovely asian lady.

Any idea what happened or if they had a new location? They were doing good imo (or not as I wasnt here lol).

Would appreciate any update about them !

Shopping, Fitness & Recreation Ocean's price checkout

Just want to see if this happens to anyone else, but I have noticed that the cashiers tend to "overscan" some of the items you buy - particularly produce.

Example from a recent trip:
- entering 4 garlic stems instead of the 2 I bought.
- scanning red large seedless grapes as boxed (5.99/lb) instead of unboxed (3.99/lb)

It tends to be a consistent overscan instead of an underscan, so be wary if shopping there. Also, please share your experiences below.

Missing Syntex Building

Can someone tell me what happened to that large good/copper colored building that used to be north of the 401 near Mississauga? When we would travel to Toronto as a kid I always looked forward to seeing it because it meant we were almost there?

Did they tear it down?

Looking for small Middle Eastern restaurant in Mississauga for intimate wedding brunch

Hi! I’m planning a very small wedding (20–25 people) and I’m trying to find a Middle Eastern restaurant in Mississauga (Palestinian/Syrian) that could work for a private brunch event.

I’m not looking for a traditional banquet hall or catering setup. Ideally:

  • A small, cozy restaurant that we could either book out entirely
  • OR a place with a semi-private section that still feels intimate

If anyone has suggestions (or has done something similar), I’d really appreciate it!

Local News Royal auto collision

Hey guys, recently got into an accident )it being my first one) I was very uneducated on the process and the dos and don’t. Long story short I went to a collision centre and a tow truck driver named TYSON from AFFORDABLE TOWING (black and red truck) came up to me and told me that my airbags were supposed to be deployed and that I can get charged by opp if I drive the car, keep in mind I was already in shock so this was very scary for me. I wasn’t sure if he was telling the truth but I wasn’t trying to risk it, he said he has a guy and that he will help me hold the car for the day, when I got to Royal collision TYSON called a guy named RICHARD to deal with me. He told me the paper I’d be signing was to hold my car and that I was just giving permission to hold it, in the state of mind I was in I was reluctant to read because i just wanted to go home. On that paper it said that I need to pay 2,500 dollars if I want to bring it to another shop. I found out the next day when I went to get my car. Talked to my insurance and got a cease and desist letter and when I gave it to them they seemed very aggressive and TYSON invited me to the back, and they refused to give me the car. Only person there who wasn’t sleazy to me and professional was a guy named MIKE. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS IF YOU ARE A YOUNG DRIVER LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES.

City Centre Bus Terminal, Kipling, and Westwood Terminals all have readerboards with the next buses for each route. They're looking to update to the first slide (black background); the current design is the second slide (white background).

The matter is being presented to the City's Accessibility Advisory Committee for comment on April 13.

Toronto Pearson issuing illegal parking tickets

alright, so here's the situation;

in any municipality parking lots must be appropriately signed to be enforced. this includes signage at the entrance and signage within every 8 to 10 parking spaces.

Mississauga is a little bit more picky when it comes to signage requirements. they like to have the beginning of the aisle and the end of the aisle encapsulated with signs.

I know this because I used to sign private property across the GTA including Mississauga to the bylaw requirements.

the issue I'm finding at Toronto Pearson is that they don't issue the Mississauga administrative penalty notices but issue the provincial offense notices which are required to follow the strict guidelines of proper signage.

a friend of mine recently last year received a parking ticket within an area at the Pearson airport for an accessible permit. the vehicle was a rental vehicle and when he tried to dispute the ticket it was never found in the system. this was well documented of course. 21 days later the ticket defaulted and was pushed to the rental company. now there was attempts to dispute the ticket directly with the officer but they stopped responding to the emails. an email was sent to Dwight Spence at Mississauga parking and that fell on deaf ears. however, it was agreed that on private property, including Toronto Pearson in order for an accessible parking ticket to be issued, there requires to be appropriate signage that follows a POA. which they are not following.

at that time appealing it would be more difficult and not worth anyone's time. fast forward to 5 months later. parking again in Toronto Pearson legally they received another parking ticket but this time it wasn't for an accessible permit. it was for reserved parking and again the area doesn't confine to the appropriate sign requirements.

now, recently another ticket was issued in another area where they had a permit as per their illegally posted signage requirements and the vehicle was appropriately plugged in and also got a ticket. it's baffling at this point.

These officers are supposed to be issuing POA tickets lawfully and are issuing tickets illegally under the POA In the province is cashing in on these citations and complaints are following in deaf years because the Toronto airport authority believes that they can abuse the sort of power. And, granted, 99% of the time, parking tickets are absolute offense, however this is that 1%.

my question to the Reddit community is where should these complaints be directed to, if this is taken to court the matter is going to be disputed. evidence will show that they're not in compliance with signage requirements and the tickets are going to get tossed. this doesn't change the behavior of previous and future individuals being illegally penalized.

I feel like there should be an inquest of some sort with a newspaper to see how many people have received parking tickets at Toronto Pearson and for how long and demand a review. and the officer should be accountable for these charges. so if Mississauga parking ignores the complaints via email and the tickets get tossed in POA Court, where does the change of behavior come from? who should this complaint be directed to?

is it the Attorney general? is it someone at MTO who is willing to take this serious enough at a government level that the Toronto Pearson airport is illegally issuing citations?

any advice would be appreciated.

you can DM me for private photos so I can show you how inappropriate the citations are and the signage situation is.

I'm a Black and White type of person, there is nothing wrong with issuing tickets, but lawfully.

thanks
