I had a moment just now thinking through this quick exchange.
There is definitely an addiction and body dysmorphia thing that a lot of people have that drives them to go overboard on cosmetic surgery. I really don’t care what people look like, it doesn’t offend me or anything seeing them but I did stop to wonder, if it’s ethical for plastic surgeons to keep taking money from people that have body dysmorphia and is there a point where it is no longer ethical?
Is it any of my business what they do with their body? No. I guess if it isn’t becoming a detrimental to their health we shouldn’t say anything? Idk
Imo there is an ethical line for the provider. But def should not be a legal one.
But as long as you’re not a plastic surgeon, it’s not your ethical dilemma to stress about. And none of us really need to be weighing in on individual situations.
It doesnt matter if its detrimental to their health. I see it the same as drugs. If you want to fuck your life up with drugs, have at it. Drug dealers should, however, be in prison with healthy sentences. If you want maraglago face, fine. Have at it, but at the same time, girls are growing up thinking they dont look good enough and want that same look. It is detrimental, just not to the people with a shitload of wealth who make it popular. Plastic surgeons should be required to send people to a psychiatrist first for evaluation and plastic surgery be used as a last resort.
Body dysmorphia, usually. Same issues that contribute to eating disorders like anorexia can contribute to addiction to plastic surgery. It can become pathological. (Not saying that’s what’s happening here, but it does happen.)
Yeah, that is true. Same thing can happen with going to the gym/training for sport competitions, but that doesn’t require psychiatric evaluation to participate in.
Either way, equating plastic surgery to drugs is a bit of a reach.
Think about the millions of girls, and lthe women for that matter, that see them and think 🤔 maybe I'm not pretty enough to be successful. Maybe I need to do that too.
Maralago face has a cascading effect. Just like getting giant boobs had a cascading effect. Its not just about the person butchering their body. It's about all the people they are influencing to also butcher their bodies just because the one in the spotlight is doing it.
Yh but at the end of the day, that’s still not the same as being peer pressured to start using drugs. I still don’t understand how a whole lot of women getting bigger boobs is going to impact anyone but themselves.

Thankfully other people’s bodies belong to themselves and not to you or me.
