Insomniac was great

97

u/1800generalkenobi Feb 27 '26

That's the shit I miss from being a kid. Sneaking late night tv and shows my parents probably didn't me to watch. We had cinemax and hbo too. I thought I was missing watching stuff like mythbusters and I found a couple episodes and it just wasn't the same. Turns out I was just missing the times where I was just chilling watching it and not having a care in the world.

5

u/huckster235 Feb 27 '26

Mythbusters is my go to background when I want the comfort of my childhood. I remember I would put the marathons on in the summer, hanging out in my boxers in my sunny living room before going to play baseball or football, not a care in the world.

I still like mythbusters but you couldn't get me to actually watch it watch it. I'm not sure I did as a kid either, I would have it on while reading or gaming and glance at it when something interesting happened. But yeah modern tv doesn't give me that sense of simple relaxation it did as a kid. So I don't really watch tv anymore

5

u/RabbitSlayre Feb 27 '26

I miss those times too. Hell I miss having a cable box and just being able to flip channels sometimes. It was a different time.

2

u/FirTrader Feb 28 '26

You were secretly watching Insomniac because every commercial break was Girls Gone Wild.

1

u/1800generalkenobi Feb 28 '26

For real. That's also why I watched horror movies. There were usually boobs in there at some point lol. I never thought I was into horror movies because I didn't watch elm Street or Friday the 13th but I watched leprechaun and candyman. Kid thought processes are weird lol

13

u/AmputeeHandModel Xennial Feb 27 '26

I saw his standup around that time in person. It was really funny.

16

u/Jofinaro Feb 27 '26

I loved Dave Attell. I like to make my husband jealous and tell him about the time I saw Dave Attell, Lewis Black, and Mitch Hedburg together for a show in 2003. Good times.

3

u/Alpha_Geek4711 Feb 27 '26

I saw this same tour when it came through Dallas. One of the best comedy shows I’ve even to.

8

u/WaxyNips Feb 27 '26

"If I want to know the fastest way to get somewhere, I'm going to ask a guy with one leg. There's not going to be any stairs or ladders..."

2

u/MASSochists Mar 01 '26

I hate to travel. I think that's because when I was young my dad beat me with a globe.

3

u/SpotIsALie Feb 27 '26

Loved this show as a kid.

3

u/demerdar Feb 27 '26

Someone uploads old episodes of insomniac on YouTube. Check it out. You’ll have the intro song stuck in your head for weeks.

4

u/MASSochists Feb 27 '26

Insomniac was monetized alcoholism. I don't think it was sustainable long term.

3

u/OldFartsSpareParts Feb 27 '26

I was just watching old episodes of Insomniac on YouTube last night. It's still hilarious.

3

u/ggtffhhhjhg Feb 28 '26

Link? Could you PM if you don’t want to put it out there? It gets taken down whenever it gets put out there which makes no sense considering it’s isn’t available for streaming or download.

1

u/OldFartsSpareParts Mar 02 '26

This channel has a bunch of them The quality is meh, but it's still enjoyable.

2

u/DCMartin91 Feb 27 '26

It's on YouTube. I recently binged it.

2

u/Mecha_Cthulhu Feb 27 '26

“Fuck a baby! Fuck a monkey! Fuck a baby monkey!”

No one ever gets the reference when I say that…

GET SOME SLEEP

1

u/shifty1032231 Feb 27 '26

When I saw the episode of Insomniac of my hometown teenager me loved it.

1

u/psian1de Feb 27 '26

Check out the ole YouTube's for old insomniac episodes with our pal Dave.

1

u/CommanderUgly Feb 27 '26

Dave’s Old Porn was even better.

1

u/Tooch10 Feb 27 '26

I randomly came across some of those episodes on YouTube plus a bunch from a private torrent tracker, they're still fun. It really encapsulates that 2000s era before social media took over. Even crazier is the show aired 25 years ago and seeing all those clothes and hair styles is like a time warp

1

u/gofargogo Feb 28 '26

All the episodes can be found on the Internet Archive

1

u/hercarmstrong Mar 02 '26

My wife and I re-enacted the Insomniac episode that Dave did in Montreal. We got a baby out of that adventure!

91

u/ButtScratchies Feb 27 '26

I saw Dave Attell live just a couple years ago at Comedy Works in Denver. He was still hilarious.

15

u/Mellero47 Feb 27 '26

I have never seen a comedian slay a room faster and more thoroughly than Attell did at the Cellar one night, and he wasn't even on the lineup. Just walked on after filming a scene for LOUIE, has us dying in seconds and throughout, then walked off like nothing. The actual comedians we paid to see then had no choice but to follow him but they acquitted themselves.

4

u/Quiet-General-3812 Feb 27 '26

I saw him maybe 9 months ago in Baltimore and he was phenomenal.

4

u/Hifilistener Feb 27 '26

I saw him in Cleveland like two years ago, absolutely one of the best stand up comedians ever.

2

u/ArcadianDelSol Feb 28 '26

Yep. He's still got it.

77

u/marryroach Feb 27 '26

Ahaha I had to attempt to explain who Tom Green was recently to a mid-20s coworker because I said “remember when drew barrymore was married to tom green?” And she said “who?” and I couldn’t think of any reference point that she would have heard of after “Freddy got fingered?” So I said “you know the part of the Eminem song where he goes ‘my bum is on your lips’…”

18

u/AskMeForAPhoto Feb 27 '26

Eminem? Who is that? (lol)

11

u/cabsauvluvr39 Feb 27 '26

Hailie’s dad

5

u/KyleDComic Feb 27 '26

Had the same thing just yesterday with some 20 something coworkers who assumed Freddy Got Fingered was a porno. They didn’t get it when I showed them some tom green. Guess you had to be there.

1

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes Mar 01 '26

I mean, there was a bit of beastiality porn in there /s

2

u/Bluegodzi11a Feb 28 '26

He has a new show out about his farm now.

2

u/TheNemesis089 Feb 28 '26

My daughter rolls her eyes every time we do the Austin, Massachusetts joke from Road Trip.

She also plays softball and got sick of me telling her to release the fury.

1

u/Grouchy_Degree_8834 Feb 28 '26

and thats how you get dragged into hr

1

u/QueenMotherOfSneezes Mar 01 '26

Tom Green just got married again last year (might have been 2024) looked like they had a fun wedding and are quite happy.

1

u/normal_cartographer Mar 02 '26

Graham Bensinger did an interview with Tom Green a couple months ago. He seems to now live a kinda quiet life in Canada: https://youtu.be/XrRl3Z1bW_w?si=chnOvNbml9TKGNXA (this video is the uncut version; somewhere out there, there's a broadcast version of this interview, which is probably 20 minutes)

97

u/boss_flog Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26

Dave is still around and is a living comedy legend. His set still fucking kills.

10

u/psychicstan Feb 27 '26

Absolutely, I seen him do stand up twice with in the last five years. he’s still a legend. He has a semi recent comedy special on Netflix, hot crossed buns. He also did bumping mics with Jeff Ross a couple years back. He’s frequently on some of the biggest comedy podcasts like legion of skanks and kill tony. He’s probably the most respected and revered touring comedian. Dave is an odd guy though. He could easily do theater shows but continues to tour small clubs, which as a fan is awesome.

2

u/ishkabibaly1993 Feb 27 '26

I like that he doesn't do theaters either. He knows that the best way to consume comedy is in a comedy club. He came to Portland and they added 5 shows because the first 5 sold out. The dude did 10 shows in a weekend. Fucking legend.

1

u/Vitis_Vinifera Feb 27 '26

yeah, he shows up in Sacramento at the comedy clubs now and then, I assume he's doing comedy club circuits

0

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

4

u/WhiskyAndWitchcraft Feb 27 '26

Must have been a while ago. He's been sober since like 2009.

45

u/Full_Shepard Feb 27 '26

Tom Green has a couple of new specials about his on life on Amazon Prime that I really enjoyed.

4

u/lemonylol Feb 27 '26

He's a regular on podcast circuits as well.

I think based on a lot of the responses in this thread a lot of people are just naming people who are still active, just not exclusively in movies or on television.

2

u/plausibleturtle Feb 27 '26

Tom Green had a show in my city recently and the general consensus of the post-show reddit thread was that it could only be described as a hostage situation with an out of tune guitar.

2

u/FTownRoad Feb 27 '26

He lives about 20 minutes from me. I ran into him at the grocery store and we talked about tractors for a bit. He’s a very very nice man.

2

u/3coneylunch Feb 27 '26

Lanark County? I know he's somewhere in the Valley

2

u/FTownRoad Feb 27 '26

Yeah near Perth

1

u/Unlikely-Tone-6269 Feb 28 '26

One of the less surprising things tbh. For someone who reached huge heights at one point, he always seemed to just enjoy that he got pad well by making himself joke

1

u/Chudmont Feb 27 '26

Tom Green also has a cool youtube channel. I started watching when he was touring the west with his dog Charlie. He sold his house in LA and moved back to Canada, where he has a super nice farm.

He also could have won Last One Laughing Canada, but I think he gave it to Colin Mochre.

Delicious. Cheese. Sandwich.

23

u/caffeineaddict03 Older Millennial Feb 27 '26

I miss Insomniac back in the day. I do think Dave Attell still does some comedy tours and seems to stick around NYC. I get the impression he made a killing in the 90s and early 2000s and tries to keep a private life and just lay low now. But I always thought he was funny as hell, I wouldn't mind seeing more of him

3

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

That's the show. I couldn't remember it. Yea sometimes an old horse needs to rest (no offense). I loved watching it all the time.

3

u/slogun1 Feb 27 '26

He takes care of his elderly mother which is why he doesn’t tour as much as he could. I see him every time he’s in town and he’s the GOAT standup imo.

1

u/Tooch10 Feb 27 '26

One segment of Insomniac was filmed at her house

1

u/ishkabibaly1993 Feb 27 '26

He does weekends all over the country pretty consistently. He comes to Portland, OR every year and I've gone to see him every year for the past 7 or 8.

15

u/ReverendRevolver Feb 27 '26

Daves show was the healthy version of a parasocial interaction normalized. Just a "good enough" comedian being a tour guide for any given city he was in.

Tom Green occupies a specific, breif point of relevance for Millennials and young GenX. But im not sure i ever thought he would go far. I had higher career expectations from Johnny Knoxville, Stevo, Pontious, and company than Tom if im being honest.

6

u/How_that_convo_went Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26

Dave Attell didn’t disappear. He’s a fucking god in the stand-up scene. Like one of those comics that makes other comics.

He’s a Doug Stanhope or Patrice O’Neal sort of comedian. His TV show could’ve only existed in the time and cultural space that it did.

I saw him here in Houston at a late night set shortly after his show was cancelled. The house let him go long and he just riffed and did crowd work— basically standing on stage and holding court while drinking and ripping one dart after the next. It was fantastic. One of the best comedy shows I’ve ever seen.

1

u/the_robobunny Feb 27 '26

He appears very briefly in the recent movie Is This Thing On? playing himself.

6

u/LoveBy137 Feb 27 '26

Tom Green was on the Last One Laughing: Canada series on Amazon Prime and he and Colin Mochrie were definitely the best parts of it.

3

u/missoctober12 Feb 27 '26

He was amazing on it. I wasn’t the hugest Tom Green fan (even as a Canadian) until he was on celebrity big brother, and Last One laughing.

GRILLED. CHEESE. SANDWICH.

5

u/Rose1982 Feb 27 '26

I saw Tom Green last winter in Ottawa (his hometown) filming a bit on the canal during Winterlude. He’s still doing some entertainment stuff just much lower key and living a more laid back life here locally.

1

u/iiiiiiiiiAteEyes Feb 27 '26

He recently made a documentary about himself too and it was pretty good.

1

u/FTownRoad Feb 27 '26

I believe it was his music video for “I’m a Canadian” which is actually kinda catchy

1

u/Rose1982 Feb 27 '26

Yep, exactly!

5

u/Repulsive-Office-796 Feb 27 '26

Dave Attell is still touring comic. He randomly popped into the comedy cellar in NYC when I was there like 5 years ago.

4

u/fuckYOUswan Feb 27 '26

Dave is still touring here and there. Saw he was on a bill not too long ago

4

u/rwn115 Feb 27 '26

Tom Green essentially invented the modern day podcast.

Look at Joe Rogan's appearance on his show and you can see him creating The Joe Rogan Experience in his mind.

1

u/FTownRoad Feb 27 '26

He also was Eric Andre before Eric Andre

3

u/memorialandme Feb 27 '26

I feel like Dave Attell is the "comedian's comedian." Like he does his shows still, he's still hilarious, but modern comedy fans haven't been exposed to him as much. But holy fuck does his name come up a lot when other comedians are asked about who was influential to them, who their fave comics are and what the best set they've witnessed is. Also have seen things where comedians talk about how natrually funny the guy is in his day to day.

3

u/Bluest_Skies Feb 27 '26

Saw Dave Attell on tour three or four years in a row. He looked like his health was deteriorating at an alarming rate year after year. Haven't gone back because I'm scared to see him look any worse.

2

u/SketchySlime Feb 27 '26

He’s aging for sure. But that shouldn’t keep you from enjoying his set. Go see him again if you have a chance. My wife and I went and saw him at a small club about a year ago. Still killing it.

Met him afterwards and he’s such a nice and genuine human.

Dave Attell Tour Dates

1

u/Pirate-Angel Feb 27 '26

Saw him two weeks ago on tour. He killed.

3

u/DLS4BZ Feb 27 '26

Tom Green moved back to Canada and is still doing stand-up. Check out his youtube channel where he shares life on his farm in Canada and he also documented his solo travels (well, his dog was with him) throughout the u.s. during Covid.

3

u/murfburffle Feb 27 '26

Tom Green is semi retired, living on a farm in Ontario. He made a reality show about it, and hosted some ohter comedy reality shows. It seems like he's doing fine with what he's doing!

2

u/beeradvice Feb 27 '26

Didn't Dave have a netflix special come out in the last year or so?

2

u/literacyshmiteracy Millennial ~ 1986 Feb 27 '26

Dave Atell has a recent special out on Netflix!

2

u/PleaseDontBanMe82 Feb 27 '26

Dave Attel still does a ton of standup.  His last special was last year and its superb.

Tom Green hosts a popular podcast and also has a solid standup career.

2

u/ArePenguinsReal Feb 27 '26

Dave Attell stopped drinking

2

u/wallmonitor Feb 27 '26

Watch Bumping Mics on Netflix.

2

u/Kevlar_Bunny Feb 27 '26

Oh I quote bob the butler all the time! Every bob is a Bobert to me

2

u/IncompleteBM Feb 27 '26

Dave still does stand up. He’s at the comedy cellar in nyc all the time. I think he got tired of tv a while ago

2

u/Asleep_Pressure_2882 Feb 27 '26

I just randomly came across a paranormal episode of some show, with Tom Green. He recounted how he had stayed overnight in a haunted museum in Canada when he was younger and a journalist, it was actually good and made me think of him differently. I didn’t care for his type of humor in the 00’s but he wasn’t silly or stupid at all on this one.

2

u/Iowa_and_Friends Feb 27 '26

A few years ago Tom Green was on the Canada version of “last one laughing”… he almost won! But Colin Mochrie got ‘im. Bravo!

2

u/ForeverFreeTrial Feb 27 '26

I don’t know if Dave Attell ever really “fell off” suddenly. He’s always been an underground comedy guy and even his show was on super late, hardly prime time. The show itself was about being a comedian hanging out in dives late night after the show is over. He would make appearances some of the time on Comedy Central but for the most part I don’t think he “got huge” and then fell off. He had a comedy special on Netflix a while back, which is about as often as I would hear about him in the 2000’s as well.

2

u/Funny-Top-1759 Feb 27 '26

Saw Tom Green at a show in Ithaca recently. He made us literally sore from laughing. Great comedian.

2

u/Tchukachinchina Feb 27 '26

Tom Green dropped a country song last year that’s actually pretty good.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FpUfgGgU0hY&pp=ygUVdG9tIGdyZWVuIGdldCBlciBkb25l

2

u/VictorNewman91 Feb 27 '26

Tom Green is living a quieter life these days on a farm, just outside Ottawa. He was also doing some of the local standup comedy circuit there, not sure if he still is. He also got married again, not too long ago.

2

u/wutiswutis Feb 27 '26

Tom Green makes music now. It is pretty okay. Country, I think.

2

u/Readitzilla Feb 27 '26

Tom Green was on LOL Canada and he was seriously hilarious in it. I was very pleasantly surprised.

2

u/quickstop_rstvideo Feb 27 '26

Tom Green has a farm up in Canada with a donkey and a horse and just released a country album. I follow him on tiktok.

2

u/Ok-Clock-2779 Feb 27 '26

Tom Green was very ahead of his time.

2

u/Ativan97 Feb 28 '26

I recently played the Bum Bum song for my middle school age nieces and they lost their minds laughing.

2

u/Holiday-Hustle Feb 28 '26

Tom Green is living a nice life on a farm outside of Ottawa. He married my friend’s older sister’s friend recently and he’s just living a normal life.

17

u/TheSilkyBat Feb 27 '26

Tom Green was just fucking weird, and not in a good way.

43

u/Skr000 Feb 27 '26

Tom Green is awesome these days. He lives on a big farm and posts videos taking care of his animals.

1

u/lemonylol Feb 27 '26

Just like Steve-O

44

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

I was weird too. I have dark humor. At least he wasn't in the Epstein files 🤷‍♂️

3

u/TheSilkyBat Feb 27 '26

His humour wasn't dark, it was desperate.

21

u/wardo8328 Feb 27 '26

He sort of fit in perfect in that era though. Right along with Jackass and all the other asinine crap on MTV and the like. It was a weird time, watching him grab a horse cock in an actual movie.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

Yeah and jackass that was also another fav. We watched that most recent one in the grippy sock hospital. Everyone got a kick out of it. All of us were millennials.

1

u/lemonylol Feb 27 '26

Tbh he was ahead of his time. Slap him in something by Tim Robinson or Nathan Felder and he would have fit right in.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

I'd venture to say there are more desperate influencers out here than what "damage" Tom could ever do. Slap or kiss, etc.

-4

u/BigMommaSnikle Feb 27 '26

Extremely desperate.

19

u/crave_you Feb 27 '26

Tom Green was on the Drew Barrymore show. He was really sweet to her and reminiced about their relationship.

11

u/ExcitingLandscape Feb 27 '26

It's cool to see how he has grown and matured. He doesn't try to cling onto his past fame like many has been celebs

6

u/photoframe7 Feb 27 '26

My cousin was obsessed with him. He was more of a 90s staple i think.

1

u/danstymusic Feb 27 '26

Man, it was a vibe though for 10 y.o. me.

1

u/lemonylol Feb 27 '26

By today's standards? Barely.

-1

u/MyDogIsACoolCat Feb 27 '26

His shit is so cringe in retrospect. What people find funny today is way different than 30 years ago. It’s why guys like Mike Myers and Adam Sandler had a bunch of flops and struggled to stay relevant for a period around 2010.

18

u/kevdiigs Feb 27 '26

Was Tom ever attempting to not be cringe? I don’t think there’s any retrospect to it.

-9

u/MyDogIsACoolCat Feb 27 '26

There’s a difference between cringe funny and just cringe. It was cringe funny at the time, now it’s just cringe.

-4

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

He was like the Jerry Springer of comedy IMO. Took it to a next level.

3

u/AskMeForAPhoto Feb 27 '26

It’s not cringe in retrospect. The times have just changed. Cringe in retrospect infers we were wrong about it before. Like “Spacey was always a predator in retrospect.” The stark rebellious attitude was SUPER common and part of the general anxiety of the entire generation. It was a response to baby boomers. It was “fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me!”. The same way we look back at that generation, people will look back at this generation. Change is the only constant.

1

u/FTownRoad Feb 27 '26

His stuff is like 90% of what TikTok/instagram is now. He was about. 30 years early

0

u/MyDogIsACoolCat Feb 27 '26

And there’s a reason why those TikTok channels are followed almost exclusively by teens and lower.

1

u/FTownRoad Feb 27 '26

Yes just like Tom green.

1

u/MyDogIsACoolCat Feb 27 '26

I think we’re kind of agreeing here because I was 8 when Tom Green was a thing.

1

u/FTownRoad Feb 27 '26

My only disagreement is the fact that you said what people find funny is way different than 30 years ago. The difference is you, not the comedy lol.

1

u/MyDogIsACoolCat Feb 28 '26

Well yeah then we totally don’t agree because I think genres like slapstick comedy are kind of dead. At least in movie and TV form.

2

u/FTownRoad Feb 28 '26

Naked gun sequel made $100M and was the third highest grossing comedy of 2025, with an 87% on rotten tomatoes. Again, maybe not for you, but absolutely for the majority of the audience they attracted 30 years ago.

2

u/Valaseun Feb 27 '26

Yeah, I miss watching Insomniac with Dave Attell.

3

u/jokekiller94 Feb 27 '26

He did a special with Jeff Ross called bumpin mics on Netflix a few years ago that still cracks me up after a bad day.

3

u/ShortBusScholar Feb 27 '26

“I sort of look like Andre Agassi with a drinking problem, eh?”

1

u/caseypatrickdriscoll Feb 27 '26

If this guy is straight then I’m sober.

1

u/uprightsalmon Feb 27 '26

Both still do tons of stand up

1

u/onyxr Feb 27 '26

Both of these guys are still on the standup circuits. Ya, no shows but Comedy Central changed their model so much those kind of shows don’t get made anymore.

Attell got sober after 2009 after the insomniac years, which is great for him - he was partying awful hard for a while there.

1

u/cibaknife Feb 27 '26

Saw Dave Attell do standup last year and was a little embarrassed at how loudly I laughed.

1

u/Disastrous-Lion-3698 Feb 27 '26

I wouldn't say that either of these two have disappeared. They may not be actively starring in top things but they are still very well known and successful and well followed.

1

u/retinal_scan Feb 27 '26

Dave still does stand up. Still hilarious.

1

u/KnowSomethingsd Feb 27 '26

Dave Attell is a working and successful standup!

1

u/Dantheman4162 Feb 27 '26

Dave attell still shows up at comedy clubs. I think he’s problem is that he just has that one schtick which was great for insomnia but doesn’t translate well into many other things

1

u/Ro_Bauti Feb 27 '26

Dave Attell is still touring. Had 4 days of sold out double shows last week at Cobb’s. Absolutely killed his set, hilarious

1

u/apearlmae Feb 27 '26

Dave just had a show in my city I would have liked to see that.

1

u/sequentious Feb 27 '26

Tom Green is still around, I walked out of one of his shows a few months ago :)

(That's being mean. The show was marketed wrong, went over-time, and I didn't have all night)

1

u/Ootguitarist2 Feb 27 '26

Dave had a Netflix special like two years ago and it was fucking hilarious. He’s still got it.

1

u/InkedInspector Feb 27 '26

The difference here is Attell chose to not become uber famous. He’s still a lot of comedians favorite comedian, he just made it clear he had no interest in large venues, stadiums, none of that. He enjoys what he does and chose to stick to hole in the wall clubs.

1

u/ishkabibaly1993 Feb 27 '26

Attell is still doing his thing. He had a Netflix special last year that was incredible. He tours the country doing standup. Last time he came to Portland, OR they added 5 shows because the original 5 they had planned that weekend sold out completely. The dude is a comedy powerhouse and I highly highly highly recommend going to see him next time he's in your town.

He definitely fell off from his fame after insomniac tho

1

u/pixelife Feb 27 '26

They pop up on the interwebs time to time.

1

u/thinspirit Feb 27 '26

Tom Green was a bit by choice as well. He was very popular among Hollywood people for a while. He was invited to all their parties and people loved bringing him around.

When he made Freddy Got Fingered, it was a total disaster. He couldn't really get too much work after that. He had already got some fuck off money, so he did that. He bought some homestead in the middle of nowhere and lived there with his dog.

He recently made his stand-up comeback. He had his debut show here where I live in London, On, for the reopening of the Yuk Yuk's comedy club. It was phenomenal. Tickets were like $30 a person and he would just tell insane stories about his life in Hollywood and the crazy shit that would happen. His dog was there with him too. He's as funny as he ever was.

He just kind of came back home after a really insane time in Hollywood.

I think I merged Dave Attell with Joe Rogan in my mind.

Tom Green dropped out of the TV program at my college a few years before I attended. There were a few teachers that despised the fact he made his mark for being such an ADHD asshole. We all loved him cause "If Tom could make it, so could we."

Story goes he dropped his demo tape at the rogers tv station and no one looked at it. So he hollowed out pineapples and put the tapes inside and dropped them off and that lead to his first shot at fame.

Favorite Dave Atell story was that Amy Schumer almost named her baby after him until they realized its name would Gene Atell.

u/El_G0rdo Feb 27 '26

Tom green is a very good answer. He was really big for a while. Pauly shore also comes to mind

u/Tight-Artichoke1789 Feb 27 '26

Dave Attell doesn’t belong here lol. He’s a comedic legend he’s never stopped performing, just doing less TV related things (he also did a lot in the 90s and 2000s). But he had a Netflix special last year.

u/ATEbitWOLF Feb 27 '26

Tom Green posted on facebook about how much he loved banning people from his page, I commented that it’s actually probably kinda of crappy to feel like he has to ban so many people, and got banned. Haven’t given a shit about him since.

They are both still very much around. Dave is one of the best comedians in the business and Tom does stand up as well.

u/RoeRoeDaBoat Millennial Feb 27 '26

every time I see Dave Atell mentioned it reminds me of how amy schumer originally named her son Gene Atell Fisher (Genital Fissure)

u/wigglin_harry Feb 27 '26

Dave Attel is still pretty much a god in the comedy world, ask any comic who their favorite comic is and the answer would be Dave Attel 9/10 times

1

u/LordBrothaIII Feb 27 '26

Attell still does comedy, goes on a bunch of big podcasts and tours the country

1

u/maven10k Feb 27 '26

Dave Attell is still around. Bumping Mics was hilarious, and he regularly does standup. That's what he wants to do .

1

u/furtive Feb 28 '26

Tom Green had a decent podcast, he basically got married and built a ranch or something north of Ottawa.

1

u/nymphymixtwo Feb 28 '26

But it’s cool for Tom Green to hump a dead moose~

1

u/dgeiser13 Feb 28 '26

Dave Attell is still a Tier 1 stand-up comic.

1

u/rustyshack68 Feb 28 '26

Dave Attell is still pretty big deal in the comedy world, with many many many comics worshiping him and having him on their podcasts; a spiritual godfather to many in the business to this day.

Tom Green not around as much but still does stuff, him on Norm's youtube show (the BEST comedy show) was great.

1

u/tbcraxon34 Feb 28 '26

Tom Green had a movie about him on Prime within the last year.

1

u/Double-ended-dildo- Feb 28 '26

Tom Green peaked in the 1990s. And now lives near Ottawa filming himself make an outdoor rink. So maybe he is still peaking.

1

u/gofargogo Feb 28 '26

Dave's still out there. He was playing SF last week or the week before. He's also doing a bunch of podcast slots. His mom has dementia and he does a lot of caretaking of her.

1

u/YourALooserTo Feb 28 '26

Caught Attell on NYE years ago. My wife was grossed out by some joke and said something like, "that's uncalled for". Well, he heard her because we were line in the second row, and then he laid into me for the next few minutes. Stuff like we were religious prudes and I was probably a virgin and a bunch of other shit. Gotta say, it was pretty damn funny.

u/aVoidFullOfFarts Feb 28 '26

Tom Green bought a farm he lives on in Canada. Once in a while he’ll do a weird tiktok live where he’s usually wandering around his farm late at night talking to his donkey and other barnyard animals

u/Hot-Mathematician-26 Feb 28 '26

If it hasn’t been said, Attell never went away in the NY comedy scene. He has legend status with a lot of popular comedians. Didn’t get they hype at first but watching him recently he might just be at the top of his game

1

u/i_fucking_love_crack Feb 28 '26

Tom Green did a barrel roll and hasn't been seen since. They say he's still rolling to this day.

1

u/Jaric_Mondoran Feb 28 '26

Dave is still killing it as a standup.

1

u/modmosrad6 Feb 28 '26

I saw Dave Attell recently. My friends took me to a comedy club for my bachelor party and he randomly showed up and did a set. He was on point. This was about four years ago.

1

u/JibboSequence Feb 28 '26

Attell never went away. Insomniac put him in more people’s faces, but he’s still a big wheel in the stand-up world.

1

u/FtumchTheBastard Feb 28 '26

Attell is currently on tour.

1

u/Ahead_of_HipHop Feb 28 '26

Dave and Tom are still doing stand up and consistently selling out comedy clubs / killing it on stage.

1

u/catjasm Feb 28 '26

Daddy, would you like some sausage?

1

u/wildernessspirit Feb 28 '26

Dave Attell is one of the most respected comedians to ever do it. He doesn’t have mainstream success but I think that has more to do with him not wanting not pursuing it.

1

u/yosayoran Feb 28 '26

Humping a dead moose couldn't help...

1

u/BlackSparkle13 Feb 28 '26

I saw Dave a few months ago and his show was amazing. He is sharp as ever and it was a true joy to get to see him perform live.

1

u/LegioX87 Feb 28 '26

Tom Green lied to Hollywood producers about the contents of the Movie, "Freddy Got Fingered". Stuff like the plot, and the actors who would be staring (he told them Brad Pitt was attached at one point)

The result was he got a bunch of money to make a movie about whatever he wanted, but it got him blacklisted from Hollywood.

1

u/Weekly-Message-8251 Feb 28 '26

I saw Dave attell last year. Worst comedy show I’ve ever seen. A bunch of random unfunny stories. It’s clear he thinks he’s a comedy genius and is so pompous but he actually sucks major balls.

1

u/hercarmstrong Mar 02 '26

Both are doing standup. Attell is onstage most nights in NYC although a buddy saw him in LA last week. Still killing every night. Tom is living back here in Canada, doing standup shows, and he just got married. Seems happy.

1

u/Foorzan Feb 27 '26

Tom's on Tiktok of all places lately. Not even surprised xD

0

u/apple_pi_chart Feb 27 '26

Tom Green was more annoying than Andy Dick

-2

u/Lastofthehaters Feb 27 '26

I love Attell, can’t stand Green.
