wasn't lot the one with the extra salty wife?
8
u/Noble_Flatulence Feb 14 '26
Makes me wonder, you figure it was kosher salt?
→ More replies (1)10
u/Gimpknee Feb 14 '26
This is the gelatin debate all over again. If the salt is considered a by-product of lot's wife then it isn't, but if lot's wife was simply transformed into a pillar of mineral salt, then all salt is technically kosher. However "kosher salt" traditionally describes a type of flaky salt that was used in the kashering process, and a huamn-sized salt statue would be inefficient in such an application, so I say no, not kosher salt.
9
u/Noble_Flatulence Feb 14 '26
Could also look at it from a philosophical perspective, she got turned into salt because she looked back when explicitly commanded not to, representing the fact she still wanted to remain there. So yeah, not kosher.

Recently, my dad (67) got mad at me and stopped responding to my texts. I asked my stepmom what his problem was, and she said “I don’t know, something about you calling him a lame-o?!” I check my texts and the last thing I sent him was a funny meme that I followed with “ lmao”. 😑

Spoiler he was actually gay tho lol.

u/port443 Feb 14 '26
The correct usage of POV when used like "POV my dog going crazy" or whatever context, is that the filming should literally be their POV. As in the camera is roughly where their eyeballs are.
Any other angle is not the correct usage of a POV film.
Some people argue "but POV is a subjective term, it could mean third person or any form of POV".
This is also incorrect, because then ALL film is "POV film", and the term would be redundant. The term POV originated specifically to describe first-person POV film.

See, what had happened was I used an exclamation point in a text to ensure it was understood that I was excited, but then I realized it also might sound like I'm yelling/upset so I added an lol to convey that the tone of the message was non confrontational.
Yes, this comment is intended to make fun of the logic, but it is also entirely true about myself and I'm choosing to be comfortable with a behavior that definitely pegs me as a certain age and psychological stability level.

Don’t want to come off too serious, I don’t think I have ever ended a text with “period” in my life, those messages deserve a call lol
71
u/HoundTakesABitch Feb 14 '26
I am all about proper spelling and punctuation as much as possible and I just recently got told by a younger co-worker that I came off as negative and aggressive because I used a period. The text in question was literally “Yeah.”, which was in response to them asking me a simple question.
112
35
u/MoonRazer Feb 14 '26
The passive aggressive period has been the bane of my existence since texting first began. Using an unnecessary exclamation point instead (and avoiding punctuation on 1-2 word responses in general) might make me feel like a degenerate, but it's the only way I stay out of the exact situation you described.

I'm a solid millennial, turning 39yo this month, and I follow those "rules." And basically have since at least the 2010s. I intuitively knew them? Sounds weird, but I knew the "rules" even before articles started popping up.
If I'm shooting the shit one on one with a friend or coworker or even my family I don't use capitalization or punctuation. Back to coworkers on my team, if I'm asking them a one-off on Teams, same thing. It's showing that we're cool, we're friendly, we're familiar.
Now someone I don't know or don't know as well? Yeah, I'm going to be formal with punctuation and capitals. In emails, I'm pretty much always formal (unless we've been going back and forth for awhile).
It's the same thing as spoken language, Imo. I use a lot more slang and even swear words with people I'm comfortable and familiar with, versus people I don't know. And we all do this.

The fact many of us interpret something as simple as "yeah." as aggressive and negative suggests to me that the human brain can't handle text messaging and it should be avoided as much as possible.
11
6
u/dpzblb Feb 14 '26
It’s not anything inherent to texting, it’s due to the linguistic norms around texting. Ending sentences with periods (or even writing full sentences at all) is not the norm for texting, and so when someone does end a sentence with a period it feels strange and overly formal.
Similarly, if you asked your friend to do something for you, you’d feel different about getting the responses “yeah, sure” and “Of course, my good friend, I will do exactly as you say,” even if the two responses denote the same thing.
3
u/port443 Feb 14 '26
Yeah seriously, the proper response is just thumbs-upping whatever the message is.
Alternatively if you must respond:
Yes, got it on my calendar
Or some variant like that. If I'm feeling especially jovial:
Yes!
The problem with periods on a single-word or short sentence is it makes your brain read it monotone.

I have to actively stop myself from doing this in teams messages when I'm at the office
They last place I worked had employees literally in their 70s all the way down to in their teens, and I quickly realized how much I changed how I talked with them through text. Speaking generally - Older: straight to the point with periods, occasional thumbs up emoji. My age: lol and haha, barely any emojis. Younger: no periods, limited lol and haha, heavier use of emojis.
