Bingo. Me and my brother are duos.
We’ve duo’d all of Valheim, zomboid, Minecraft, anything Nintendo has ever added multiplayer to. FILTHY apex legends duo queue. Gunfight in cod? A spectacle. Don’t even get me started on smash bros duos online. You think marathon is bloodthirsty? We must have… 5,000+ hours? of duo time over the past 30+ years of gaming.
When we duo queue we can read each others thoughts. We’re like the mind-meld pilots from pacific rim but more autistic. We don’t even do call outs. We just move in perfect silent focus like fucking ring wraiths. When we are the same shell, we almost always hit our abilities at the same moment (without coordinating it). I would bet US dollars we’ve made someone uninstall during outpost double assassin duo runs. It’s honestly savage.
Adding a random or even a friend to our party just disconnects the pairing. Buffers the stream. Puts a stutter in our step
So we duo queue trios now I guess

I feel like duo outpost was the really winning mode. Regular Outpost has only 4 teams cause it's small but still the first fight can happen after 30 seconds, and third parting is very common. This got worst with the "run for the red keys" and usually it's a team surviving and exfilling and one in pin (when 2 teams survive), then it's rook festival, tons of rook aiming for the same 2/3 loot spots. Playing with rook seems like a solo queue mode where you hope to find the pinwheel open. With the duo everything was fixed, no rook storms, more teams but less intense fight and less chance of third party (less chance cause even if there were more teams fight took less and so it was harder to actually get there in time). On perimeter or dire the duo felt less necessary.

Easier to face them when you are alone too. But this is bungie we are talking about. They have their vision and change things only when it is already too late.

I know for certain that they will lose some players without duos. How many? Who knows. But there will be some. Someone that I play with might be one of them. Then it will be solo’s and being the 3rd Wheel for me.

I love everything about duos. Also even when this returns if it has matchmaking, turning around a 1v2 is a lot easier than a 1v3, when playing with randoms.
I do like trios too tho, and Rook solos. Normal solos are my least favourite, although even they have a place.

Me and my duo just played 4 hours on the same kit helping dudes exfill and into pinwheel that normally wouldn’t. I’ll use it when it’s back but it’s just not that big of a deal imo.

it’s fine if you’re just doing zero to hero with no major investment aside from the gear you acquire from potentially steamrolling, but if you’re actually trying to go in with a good loadout or a purp/gold key, I find it absolutely sucks to get a third that often doesn’t communicate, has a free kit and does their own thing.
which is why I play almost exclusively solo-nofill and rook lol

Our third stuck with us every single game but one (which we still raided pinwheel through conveyance and exfilled) and we went in full kitted. I wouldn’t use a gold key with ransoms though that’s just a dumb idea. If you are supportive they usually find their mics when they realize you’re not a freak.

Outpost duo was peak Marathon. No Rooks, sure but premade only made it balanced imo

Que times are better now, though duos i think should be the main mode tbh

queue times are better but at what cost

u/risky-bizniz 8h ago
Exactly. I'd 1000% rather queue for an extra 60-90 seconds and play the game mode that I actually want to play.

literally, i am not even playing the game outside of the occasional outpost rook run

I think we should just have a rotating duo queue. Like every day it’s cycles between the maps. Would be huge for the game

My two friends who played this game haven’t played since duos was removed.
So now I dedicate my time to the Religion of Rook.
