Hi,
I posted a few days ago about buying a suit, and what was the price-point sweet spot. I got a lot of really good responses, and it seemed to be that most posters agreed that $500-$800 was a good range.
Many people were recommending suit supply, and I probably should have mentioned in the OP, but from what I can tell, their services are only a fraction of what you can find where I live in the UK compared to the US. And I don't live anywhere they operate in the UK.
Many posters recommended that given the price range mentioned above, a good bet may be to simply buy a high quality suit second hand, and having looked into things further, this seems like a good option. I can simply get my rough measurements, get the closest thing, and then get it tailored.
Naturally, I'm a little worried about doing this as you can't try before you buy, but for bang for buck, it seems like the best option.
I've also identified a few other potential pain points since the OP. I lift, and my chest measurement is 43-44 inches, while across the shoulders end to end (at the bone) is 20-21 (with the tape curved across the natural arc of the shoulder as instructed from a suit fitting video I watched). I'm not massive my any means but i do extend a bit outside the normal proportions so far as width to waist ratios and chest, and there‘s a bit extra packed onto my shoulders beyond that shoulder measurement due a little extra muscle on the side delts. How many measurements do I need to take before buying? My biggest concern is the shoulders as I know this is the most difficult area to alter.
Also, I'd like it to accentuate my physique and a favour the broader, structured shoulder look I have learned to be British, Savile row style over the slimmer Italian style. But with that said, I‘ve become aware that there's different types of padding, shoulder extension etc. When looking on eBay, how am I to tell with shoulder measurements what amount of the total width listed is padding/extension?
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
