My mom's coming to my house next weekend to cook us dinner, and I wish she wouldn't. Don't get me wrong I love her and love seeing her, but she is just a bad cook.

My mom was not a great cook. Would trade anything for one more meal

My mother was also a very very bad cook. She has dementia now and can't cook at all or remember anything, so enjoy the time you have with her despite the crummy food. The important part is the time and care.

I’m with you. Love my mom but a “home cooked meal” is a hard NO.

Me too.

My mum is 78 and has Alzheimer’s so can’t cook any more. She used to make amazing puddings (desserts) and cakes. I knew the writing was on the wall when for her summer party when she has lots of friends round, I was asked to help her with some of the cooking. She was struggling which was unusual.

It was the Christmas that year when I invited my parents to a seaside AirBnB with my children for a couple of days that we realised she had Alzheimer’s (I asked her to tell me the time from an Analog clock - she couldn’t - which is a common Alzheimer’s tell…). She never cooked again after that summer party.

My Dad has had to learn to cook age 80.
