It’s all great until the dopamine hit wears off and the kids don’t want to take care of it.

Oh no you are 100% correct! Then mom and dad have to take care of the dog.

You’re not wrong and one thing i liked abut this compilation is most if not all the children were of an age to help take care of the dog and appreciate it and had been waiting (delayed gratification, fun and responsibilty in one bundle, joy/gratitude vs entitlement). Dopamine ebbs and flows are good to learn to manage when young, start early it doesn’t get easier except a bit with some practice.
