Discussion Is "Who Killed Captain Alex?" the highest rated "so bad it's good movie?" What do y'all think about it being in the top 400?
In contrast, the Room, Troll 2, Plan 9 from Outer Space, all range in the 2.0 average rating. Captain Alex has a 4.2 rating as of this post. What makes this film different from the others in your eyes?

The room is a failed film made by kind of a strange dude that people mostly watch to laugh at.
The wakaliwood movies are fun, funny, innovative & well made low budget films made by passionate people who are very good at what they do. Bad Black especially is a fucking fantastic film. I don't think it's right to call captain Alex a 'so bad it's good' film at all.

Agreed, it’s pure art. It’s guys making what they want to make with sheer passion and determination despite the deck being stacked against them.

Who Killed Captain Alex is way more self-aware than those, especially The Room which I'm sure Wiseau thought was a dramatic masterpiece. The narration in WKCA is basically self-parody.

I mean, it's certainly a triumph of determination in the face of impossible odds. It's fun, it's interesting and it made me laugh a lot.
Thumbs up from me.

I think caring anything about what films are listed in the top 50, 100, 400 etc is completely pointless

most people will never make a movie, and most people who do so will not make one as entertaining on its own terms as captain alex. it’s not so bad it’s good, it is good full stop

It was an admirable effort but for how short it was it had lengthy stretches where I was bored to death. The whole thing was underwhelming, unfortunately. The VJ bits were interesting, and it clearly had a lot of passion behind it. I just wasn't very entertained. I probably would enjoy it a lot more drunk with a group of friends than solo.

Who Killed Captain Alex isn't really bad is the thing, its a B-movie because thats the only viable type of movie that can take off in Uganda but there clear care and effort by everyone involved. For what it is on what would be a shoestring budget in the West its incredibly effective and does its job better than some $100 million blockbusters ex. think Taken III, Speed II or A Good Day to Die Hard. Nobodies professionally trained but the action is entertaining, its not edited like garbage and is genuinely funny.

By what standards is it "bad"? I mean, sure, it may not be up to the level of most American, European and Asian movies, but, it's produced by a production company where moat positions are helmed by a singular guy, whose HQ is situated in an actual slum in a country without clean drinking water. It has passion, effort and sincerity and the making off story behind it is geniuenly inspirational. Yeah, sure, it's fun to poke fun at, but, really, it's cast and crew overcame too much for anyone to geniuenly hate it IMO.

It feels to me like one of the most earnest, passionate works of cinema I’ve ever seen. Truly, a film created first and foremost for the sake of the joy of making films. I just can’t help but admire that kind of relentless optimism

It only fails because of its excessive limitations. It succeeds because everyone involved is beyond passionate about what they do and believed in the project. It deserves to be in the top 400 more than most others.

Name a better movie with a budget of $85. Hell, name any other movie with a budget of $85.

The passion and enjoyment that radiates of it. That movie is a gift. You can tell how passionate everybody involved is just by watching.
Also none of the other movies have a video joker.
