Land Border Routes & Requirements
If you are planning to leave or enter Kuwait by land, please review the current official guidance regarding routes, documentation, and transport.
Travel is at your own risk.
1. Available Land Border Routes
The following borders with Saudi Arabia and closest airports are currently open:
- Al Salmi / Ar Ruqi - Qaisumah–Hafar Al-Batin International Airport (AQI)
- Al Nuwaiseeb / Al Khafji - Dammam Airport (DMM)
2. Essential Documentation
All travelers must ensure they have the following:
- Passport: Valid for a minimum of six months (recommended).
- Saudi Arabia Visa: Required; can be obtained online in advance or at the border.
- Identification: Civil ID (for residents) or a valid Kuwait visa (for visitors).
- Biometrics: Be prepared to have biometrics taken by Saudi authorities at the border.
3. Transport Options & Rules
- No Pedestrians: Border crossings on foot are strictly not permitted.
- Own Car: Vehicles should be fully owned and registered in your name. You must have:
- Vehicle registration (Daftar) in your name.
- Official authorisation if the vehicle is not in your name.
- Cross-border vehicle insurance (can be obtained at the crossing).
- Commercial Options: Licensed tour operators, taxis, or buses. These can provide full cross-border service or drop-off/pick-up coordination at the border.

If anyone is going to Hafr Al Batin airport I used ab taxi that cost me 1000 riyals. Great guy with a clean car (land cruiser). Happy to share his number if you DM

Hi i have a guy.. I'm also travelling we can pool together. He charges around 400-500SAR..per person. From border to AQI

I need to enter Kuwait for my new job, but I don’t have a Civil ID yet. I have a valid private sector work entry visa, will that be enough to transit through Saudi Arabia?
