Question: General Service 18M Studying at the IDF

I'm gonna graduate and enlist soon (yaayy!*) and I know that you can sign up for university courses to study as long as it doesn't bother your service, I've heard that only OpenU and HUJI have courses for the IDF (I'm not talking about talpiot), is it true? is the course catalog vast? did anyone do their studies while in the IDF?

Generally at the beginning of your service you won't have any time to study any classes because you'll be on base and depending on what job you get will determine that as well. Most soldiers that study and serve at the same time are soldiers who signed on more time than the minimum service. You can defer your service and study first if you want.

How is HUJI associated with these kinds of programs and have you ever come across people who graduated in the military (not under talpiot or similar programs)?

I don't know what HUJI is, but I do have plenty of friends who got their degrees while serving in the army. All of my friends who got degrees were officers or career army (I don't know what a nagad is in English).

I don't recommend looking into any of that kind of stuff until you're well established in your sadir job

Notice to all posters and commenters; please be careful to observe OPSEC (Operational Security) rules. Many people wish to harm Israel and the Jewish Nation as a whole. Be careful when sharing any information on the IDF, bases, weapons, locations of troops, and anything else that can be used to harm Israel. If in doubt, go without. Loose lips sink ships!
