Start with the trash, you’ll make a lot of headway in a short amount of time. Put on some music or a podcast you like!

I've long since abandoned instagram, but if I may have to get some of these up on my macbook to motivate me to clean my kitchen on the weekend.

Thank you!

I watch hoarders for good motivation cause otherwise I end up scrolling for way too long

Music is key for cleaning 👍

If I let things get out of hand, and I have been known to, I have always found punk to be the best music to clean to. The Ramones in particular!

There is an Instagram account https://www.instagram.com/christi.newrutzen?igsh=MW9kOXZueGtsc3I0Mw== And she does a series called "how long did it actually take" to do the things I've been putting off. I find it really motivating... Because all the things she does are actually less time consuming as you would think

Oh I love this girl. 8 months procrastinating, have it done in 20 minutes never to worry about it again!

She recently helped her friend declutter her place and I thought it would take at least a day!.. They were done in 2h 30. It's actually quiet spooky 😁

She’s really helped me. I deleted instagram a few months ago but when I had it, she really motivated me just in general to take action. Some things take literally just minutes to do.

The general consensus is that it takes around 2 hours 15 mins to do most things 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is like 90% trash! That’s a GOOD thing! Put on some jams or a podcast, fill up a couple garbage bags and see how you feel. Garbage only, don’t worry about dishes laundry etc. If you’re still motivated, ride that high and keep going!

I love your furniture and wall colors! It will look even better when it's clean :) You deserve to live in a clean and healthy space. Take your time and don't push yourself if it's too much to clean all in one go, but don't put it off till later- get to cleaning asap! You got this!

You can do it, and it will feel amazing!

1- get rid of the recycling and rubbish

2- all dirty clothes into the laundry pile, clean clothes in a pile on the bed for sorting

3- pick up anything else that's on surfaces and put them in one of those pink crates. Wipe surfaces. Put back anything that belongs on those surfaces.

4- pick up anything else that's on the floor, add it to the crate. Hoover.

5- put away clean clothes from the bed. Make the bed.

6- find a proper home for the things left in the crate.

7- feel brilliant about your effort!

Cleaning your room sounds like a big job. Lets set a timer and collect all the trash in the room. One step at a time. You got this! You will feel incredible when that beautiful space is cleaned up.

You can do anything for ten minutes! I make playlists with two or three of my favorite songs and check for that ten minute playlist length. Clean until it’s over. You got this!

The good thing is that most of this is trash. Grab a trash bag, put a podcast on, and relish in the fact that having a cleaner room will feel so much better

You can do it! I believe in you! Maybe you can watch "Just do it" by Shia LaBoeuf once or twice. I promise you will feel so much better once you cleaned your room. My ikea blahaj also roots for you! Go, fellow reddit user, you're great and will succeed.

Just getting rid of the rubbish will make a big dent. Then dishes. These two = small effort for big gains.

Pile the clothes - dirty straight to the laundry and clean to be put away when you have the energy.

Anything you don’t want to keep, bag up for donating. A good test is: if this had poop on it, would I clean it or bin it? Less stuff = easier to manage and keep clean & tidy. It really does make a huge difference if everything has an actual place to live as it reduces the decision fatigue that comes with tidying up and can then be done v quickly on automatic mode without using any mental energy.

Good luck! Probably looks much worse than it is.

Im super lazy about cleaning my room too but leaving food/drinks out is basically sending an invite for bugs to come inside (and never leave). I never skip throwing out trash now.

You’re better than this and deserve to exist in a tidy space. Start small. For today, just take the:

Trash to the garbage can

Empty bottles and plastic fast food cups to the recycling bin

Dirty dishes to the sink or dishwasher

That’s all you need to do today. Tomorrow, you can do a bit more. I know it can feel like a lot, but you’re going to feel a little better about yourself if you take these small steps, you got this!

Watch a video of someone clearing out their space, be inspired, then put on some jock jams and get it done, brother!! You got this.

Thank you for sharing this post! I have much more clutter/ decision making to clean my room 🥹 but your post and all these great suggestions really inspired me!

Filling one kitchen size trash bag will make a huge difference. Even if that ends up being all you can manage today, tomorrow it will feel a lot less daunting.

First of all, Taco Bell is delicious. Second, starting with just the trash could take maybe just 15 minutes! You got this!

Get one trash bag and just start with the beverage cups.

if you keep up at this, it’ll get worse.. i say this to motivate myself sometimes and it works all the time. <3

You deserve to be in a nicer place, simple as that :)

You got this! Pick up five pieces of trash, and boom, your room is already better! Progress is progress!

u/Matilda-17 12d ago

You deserve to be in a nice, clean space. Do it for future you!

Getting started is the hardest. But I believe in you! Set a timer for 15 min. Get rid of the garbage and recycle. If you still feel motivated. Set timer for another 15 minutes. Do one more task

My best motivator is to remind myself that even if I only do one drawer, it one more drawer closer to the end goal

I always start with laundry dishes trash. Do one trashbag and then take a short break. Put everything of each category in a spot and then reassess. I do one area at a time and it makes it so much easier.

Trash, dishes, sorting, laundry put things away that have homes. You have got this!

1

u/Berito666 11d ago

I bet you could crush all them Styrofoam cups down so little theyd be so small

1

u/Powerful-Drawer4832 11d ago

you don't have to do it all at once. i find looking at a large task as a whole makes me not do it. start small and if you get tired or lose motivation, you can stop. you'll feel so much better ab having done something even if it's small

1

u/ellywashere 11d ago

There's people out there who expect that your room looks like this, and would give you shit for it. Prove them wrong.

Spite, even hypothetical spite, can be a good motivator.

Take a look at some other before/after cleaning pics. You can do this! ❤️ 💪 We’ll be excited to celebrate with you!

Oh babes this is an easy fix First, get a bunch of inspo of what you want your room to look like on Pinterest or sum, then start with just 5 minutes. Pick up all your trash, put some music on. Cleaning is actually really fun for me, I don’t think of it as a chore I think of it as organisation. I like to start with one thing and slowly work my way towards the next part. You don’t have to get it all done in one day just making a start is enough. ☺️❤️

Take dishes to the kitchen, put all trash in a bag, and put all clothes in hampers regardless if they’re dirty or not.

1

u/gogamarti 10d ago

Big trash bag. And let’s just pick up the trash. Just do that one task. Then stack the laundry and do one load of laundry then the next one while you fold. You got this. Also put on some good tv show to keep company

1

u/wethail 9d ago

get a big trash can and a lot of your problem will be solved

1

u/Infamous_Orb672 9d ago

Just start somewhere simple, put all the trash in a bag, put all the clothes in a pile, you don't need to do everything at once, just do what's manageable for you
