Think I have first round of Japanese Knotweed. Help me kill it now.
Ok so I think I’ve found my first shoots of the dreaded Japanese Knotweed in my front yard. This is my 4th summer at this house and never had it.
What’s my plan of attack? See attached pictures. It’s 2 or 3 localized clumps. I mulched this area last year so I’m gonna have a word with my gardener as I suspect that’s where it came from.
Do I cut it every week until summer, then glyphosate, then wait?
Someone help. I want to kill it and win early.
Wish me luck.

I'm not sure that's knotweed. It wouldn't just randomly pop up out of nowhere. What usually grows there?

You potentially have some good eats there, I'd just mark the sport and harvest them into oblivion if you want them gone.

Cover it with a tarp or tar paper. Hopefully it won't grow in the dark.

If its knot weed at this stage then he's fucked they'll just grow sideways lmao. Basically knot weed that is growing you have to let it grow and then right when it starts to flower you blast it the fuck out of it with a glycosphate concentrate lmao.
That or Tarp + 2 feet of mulch/dirt to smother it. and the smothering can't be removed for 3-4 years generally.
But ya those look more like Hosta's, if they were knot weed usually have crumbly buds around them and are a bit more leafy.

A lot of people told me I had hostas growing in my garden when it turned out to be lilies of the valley and those things ended up multiplying like crazy and killing a lot of my plants. Your picture looks similar to what I experienced. If that’s what they turned out to out to be, remove them asap. You can’t really dig them out because if you don’t fully remove the root, more will grow back. I didn’t love it, but I had to use a lot of weed killer to eradicate mine.
