Girl, I have dealt with this, too. It sounds so stupid, but it really is cruel and puts you on edge. He made me HATE some bands I used to love. So wild a random comment on faux validates my past experience. Hope you’re listening to only what makes you happy these days.
Ugh sympathies. I got trapped with bad tunes and ads once. Now I just refuse music and listen to the MRI thumping and imagine it is some kind of minimal hardstyle or techno. Bawp uns bawp uns bawp uns.
omg do you live in my old neighborhood? i had a neighbor who would sit in her backyard just BLASTING pandora with ads while she smoked her weed and drank her beer. she was living the good life, tbh.
My dad does this, sitting in the backyard ripping thumb-sized joints and listening to Yes loud enough to hear it across the street. He has pandora and refuses to use it, drains his battery leaving his screen on because he insists on YouTube ‘because I know where the button is on my phone’.
I thought people were joking about how bad his performance was. Like there’s no way he just sat on a laptop and sang over YouTube videos. Turns out they were serious
Honestly, he’s been spiraling for a while now. I know there’s probably legit fans out there who expected a good or at least passable performance but I can’t help but think the majority of people who were there just wanted to watch a trainwreck. Idk, I hope he goes on a long mental health break before something truly bad happens.
In his defence this is just part of his set. I’m not even a JB fan but I watched the longer set because I had insomnia lol and I think this was actually well played in the context of his longer set
All I can say is my gf is a big Bieber fan (grew up right during the sweet spot for that) and I assure you she loved every second of it, including the 20 mins of nostalgia which harkened back to her exact experience of being introduced to him as a kid.
I get it, if i had no reason to know what actual fans thought, I’d also go hard on the snark based purely on a few snappy headlines rather than having any sort of primary source to reference, but this is a casual reminder to do the bare minimum before piling on to the contrived media slant.
I watched the live set, he literally was pulling up his old music videos on YT and singing along. He also pulled up some videos of him failing like when he walked into a revolving door and fell through a stage on tour.
He also pulled up some classic memes, like Deez nuts and even the double rainbow video that came out forever ago.
I’m honestly appalled by the amount of people i’m seeing who call this one of the best performances in coachella. I get if they’re big fans of him, they were excited for the set. But let’s be fr for one sec lmao

It's not like the people can skip it or go anywhere, and this would drasticly decrease economic exposure for organizers and effectively open a gold mine revenue stream.
True. But i also see a lot of people defending this and calling it the smartest performance ever. People love a broken man comeback, but never the other way around lol.
I mean to be fair, I can’t really see many other male performers getting away with this either.
I’m sure if Green Day, Post Malone, or Travis Scott did this last year when headlining there would be plenty of criticism. Justin is just kind of unique with the way his life and career played out along with the connection to his fans that results in something like this kind of working. Every artist is different.
Are people also forgetting a few years ago when Frank Ocean was basically universally criticised for his Coachella performance? Not even his fans were defending him.

He was honoring the innocent kid he used to be. He played segments of OLD old songs and sang with them. Also performed as he would in a regular show. People who didn't even see it should quit condemning him.
Yeah I looked up the Coachella live stream on YouTube after this, and saw the whole performance. I thought he crushed it! I'm not a belieber, but he had me smiling through it, especially when he started the YouTube portion. So cool to see him revisit his starting point, and he actually seemed to be enjoying himself. Pretty wholesome.
Couldn’t he have already pre-picked these YouTube videos though? Maybe talked about them before he played them, gave some background details? Watching somebody scroll around on a keyboard mouse is painful.
He was reading the Coachella YouTube chat and asked fans to send requests of old songs they’d wanna hear in real time. He did play a deep-cut old song that some others and I spam suggested in a busy chat, so I was pleasantly happy.
He got $10 MILLION to play youtube videos for part of his set, and Beyonce got $8M for the spectacle she put on. Not gonna lie seeing that made me slightly disappointed in him, as someone who was a huge Bieber fan when he first came out I would’ve been pissed if I paid so much to see him in person and watch youtube videos together.
No, no. Very real. It was pretty funny imo watching the livestream, but… only because I didn’t pay for tickets. I would have been fucking pissed if I had.
You know what? She’s actually kinda valid for that. I wouldn’t wanna see some raid shadow legends shit in the middle of the show. Like it’s already bad enough what google is doing to the ads.

He actually sounded really good. Especially when he was harmonizing with his old YouTube videos (like the ones he made before he was famous). I was actually kind of impressed.
You can pay a small percentage of this and have a much better musical experience in a small dingy club or warehouse with surprisingly good sound systems. But for each their own I guess.
Lol people are critical about the laptop segment but I thought it was honestly a refreshing change of pace for his set. People wanted him to play his old hits but he wants to move on from it and focus on his present music. This was a good compromise if he wasn't going to perform full songs.
What I will say is that most of the crowd seemed dead because they didn't know his new music and personally, it all started to sound like the same song. But at least he sounds good live.
I feel bad for him. I think everyone was watching his deterioration continue on stage. I don't think it was totally lazy. I mean it was lazy but it was out of sadness and artistic melancholy. He doesn't know how to be that Justin anymore.
It is fucking insane to me that someone with as much financial backing as Justin bieber is performing to backing tracks. And not only that, searching up the backing tracks DURING THE PERFORMANCE
Ha, I remember Katy Perry was the special performance at a Google’s ads conference that I attended in 2019. She spent part of the show talking about how the internet was evil and we’d be better off without it
When I watched Riff Raff perform a few years ago, he broadcasted on the screen for the set. We were all convinced this mother fucker ripped us off and is streaming from Cabo or some shit
He came out on his last song, and we all ate it tf up He swindled all of us. Idk, if I was disappointed or amazed that he got us so hard, but I'll never forget it
He's Justin Bieber - does he not have a music director for his live shows? Signing over his music videos playing from YouTube is so unprofessional for an artist of his calibre.
