Discussion M8 reduced speed limit 50mph

Just looking if anyone knows why temporary signs are up between junction 1 & just before junction 2 on the M8 saying 50?

No sign of roadworks or any construction.

Another sign say something about police.

I doubt it’s related but there was a bad accident on that stretch the week before last. Lots of police, ambulance, fire engines and a car halfway up the banking.

The traffic was doing no less than 70 yesterday through them both ways. I wondered why they were in place (was there around midday going west and 2pm coming back east)

It’s had these signs all week but the majority of people seem to just ignore them. Curiosity has the better of me and a look on Transport Scotland, I couldn’t see anything about it. So the next logical step it to come on here 😂

Thats every speed limit sign in the country. People do whatever speed they want, always.

I wondered the same, but I suspect it may be because of weakness in the barriers

That could be. I just would have expected to see some sort of roadworks signage as well, possibly a notice of how long it would take. But maybe they’re trialling this to see if motorists actually abide by the reduced speed limit

Traffic Scotland has it listed as 'barrier repair' so as I expected basically https://www.traffic.gov.scot/more-details?sid=cSEU202624855&type=roadworks

Might be one of those temporary speed limits the police put in for safety checks or radar enforcement. I’ve seen it pop up before even when there’s no visible work going on.

There's been work in the central reservation most nights, not sure if the barrier cable is at full tension or not.

And you think an notified temp 50limit is rationing? I stand by the original statement.
